The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the picture of David Sisi, Jannie de Beer and Glen Webbe above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Evening pub
Hope everyone is well.
Does any reg with small children have the faintest idea how I explain to my niece, in a way she can follow, where the moon goes to during the day?! A somewhat unexpected question and I'm flummoxed! And so is my poor sis

Don't know completely how but Molly is the key.
Dissapointed in a way though. Sherlock the movie killed off Moriarty and now the tv series have done so as well.

Hic! Italian beer detox completed. It took 8 pints of decent beer to achieve, but I'm not complaining. And I've got a very nice Rovigo scarf to boot .

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
OK, the ending to Sherlock last night.
Three things stood out:
1. Sherlock made Watson stand in a specific spot, when he got out of the taxi he told him to stop, then go back, then turnaround.
2. He told Watson to look at him and keep looking at him, not to look anywhere else.
3. Watson couldn't have seen him hit the ground, as a big red truck was parked between Watson and the spot where Sherlock landed.
Hmmmmm.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Morning all, spend some time last night thinking about what has been the best game of the Heino so far:
* Harlequins away win over Toulouse after being defeated at home by the same oppo the previous weekend
* Edinburgh's one point pipping of RM92 in a high scoring spectacular
* Leinster's demolition of Bath at Lansdowne
* Ulster's comprehensive defeat of Leicester at Ravenhill
* Scarlets' TBP win vs Saints at FG
Any other candidates? Overall thoughts?
Meanwhile, I'll make the , but you'll have to get your own

Asbo great calls. Edinburgh v Racing must be the winner. Muster v Northampton had excitement. Luster v Tigers is too one sided to merit a place IMO.

Swanny,
Balloons would help explain where the sun goes at night.
Does she have a very low brightness night light?
Let her see how "bright" it looks at night when all around it is dark. Then let her see it in full daylight and it doesn't seem to shine at all.
Moon is the same, still there in the day but the sun is shining so brightly that it isn't easy to see the moon.
Thank Goodness she asked in the winter as you can show her that the moon is still there in the morning because the sun isn't too brighty at that stage.

Or,
Shine a (not very bright) torch onto a wall at night and let her see how bright a circle it makes.
Then do the same in the daytime. (Best to chose a wall that will be in full sunlight.) She will see that the torch still works but the light isn't bright enough to be noticed in the sunlight.

Asbo, I was thinking of the same myself. I think Edinburgh's comeback against Racing would do it for me. Quins played so poorly at home against Toulouse it's difficult to gauge if the away win was spectacular. Leinster against Bath was great and I think anyone would fear taking them on in Landsdowne Road. Ulster's performance was awesome from an Ulster supporter's point of view but must run Edinburgh very close.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Rava, it was a amazing to see an Irish team so comfortably dismantle a "big name" opposition and former HEC Champion.
I'm hoping for a Munster and Ulster win next week. It would be fantastic. I love the HEC so much!!!!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
If Ulster, Munster and Leinster all were in the semi finals and we had another Irish winner in recent years (2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012?) could it lead to French (bear in mind apart from Toulouse last French team to win HEC was in 1997), English et al changing the format.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Would they have the ability to change it stag? They do supply 13 out of 24 teams to the competition but surely any format change would have to be voted in by more than just a majority? Does this format suit Welsh, Scottish and Italian teams as much as any other format would? Probably.
Anyway, the only reason the irish teams are currently seeds 1, 2 and 3 is because Ulster have loads of foreigners and Leinster and Munster don’t take the league seriously. Obviously.

Possibly, in a world club competition and screw the leagues?red_stag wrote:If Ulster, Munster and Leinster all were in the semi finals and we had another Irish winner in recent years (2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012?) could it lead to French (bear in mind apart from Toulouse last French team to win HEC was in 1997), English et al changing the format.
Have to say, there's part of me which is quite happy to see Munster resuming their place in the knockout stages, even tho I have no particular affinity to the club - it's like order has been restored in the world!! It still might be masking some frailty mind, but I'm sleeping easier

Yea, if one union (Ireland) are happy and 5 others aren't doing well, I would imagine that changes would be likely.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I'm sure they would want to consider it but can you suggest any different format that would work in their favour?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
And,
They didn't change it when 9 of the first 10 winners came from France and England.
Ulster being the bright Celtic beacon shining amongst them then as now!

I can't to be honest. Not given it enough thought to be honest.
But there are 12 teams in Premiership - 4 have won the HEC
There are 14 teams in Top 14 - 2 have won the HEC
There are 2 Italian teams - none have won the HEC
There are 2 Scots teams - none have won the HEC
There are 4 Welsh teams - none have won the HEC
There are 4 Irish teams - every team except for Connacht has been HEC Champions.
