The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the picture of David Sisi, Jannie de Beer and Glen Webbe above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

I don't know which'd be the bigger talking point, 3 Irish provinces at home or the biggest amount of away wins in the QF ever

Have to say, even if Terblanche is slowing up... and he would be at 37/38, but his decision-making & experience, paid off handsomely on Friday.
He helped build an early platform for Ulster. So cool under pressure. He had a great game.

Still, Leinster v Ulster would be a cracker I reckon.
I suspect it will pan out like this as well. Going to be on tender hooks all week now.

I couldn't help but notice you didn't mention Bath Gibbo, I'd like to think it was because you didn't want to hurt my feelings as opposed to a "so what?" attitude.

All right Willy man? Ajolopies about my rished behaviour and throw-away comments last night bud. I was ver ver happy. If only I'd been harsher.
So, when Ulster qualify, and if its us ye play? You'll be down to Dubh Linn and meet us all up, yeah?

Wooops. Erm, PJ, how can I put this man? I wasn't there for that one, but I was there at all the aforementioned games. Yeah. That's why.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Are there restrictions on ground size for the quarters?
I thought that only came into play for the semis.
Of course we would have to play our semi in Dublin.

Correct me if Im wrong MrsP (and you always do, in fairness to ya). I do believe that the min capacity for a QF, is 20,000.
Leinster upped theirs from 18,500 to 20,000 ,in order to play ASM in the QF's, at home in the last HC. Soo...

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I really think it's the semis that has the restriction.
Did the Saints not decide to play their quarter at MKD because they wanted to sell the extra tickets and then they HAD to move their semi there too?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Just done some checking.
It would seen that the quarters have to be played in a ground with a capacity of 15,000.
Sorry lads. You were (almost) right!
Certainly closer to "right" than I was.

From the Ulster Rugby website 25/01/2011
Northampton Saints have officially confirmed that the Heineken Cup quarter-final game against Ulster will be played at the Stadium:MK, home of Milton Keynes Dons FC...
The game has been moved football club ground whic has a capacity of 22,000 because Saints' home ground, Franklin's Gardens, falls below the 15,000 capacity required to host a Heineken Cup quarter-final.
Jeez some wimmin just can't accept they are wrong sometimes

I really think you are right MrsP. Min 20,000 for SF's.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heineken_Cup#cite_note-capacity-8
Dunno why Leinster went to all the hassle of scaffolding an extra 1,500 in, for one home QF game though.
Must have been worth de shekels roysh.

Although I would imagine Stringer was at Munster longer than Boss was with us and he had probably supported them since childhood.
And those teams don't meet twice every season.

Careful Willy, when Gibbo says "meet" it doesn't necessarily mean what you think. "Meeting" doesn't usually involve clingfilm, a car battery and a set of jump leads.... know what I mean?

Strings at Munster 1998-2011 gaining 223 caps (record)
Boss at Ulster 2005-2010 gaing 85 caps.
I'd say that's a difference.

Not WUMing here lads, but Boss put Pienaar firmly in his box last time they met. Remember?
I thought he was the wrong choice for Leinster in the beginning, but now, I actually think he is a better player than he ever was. Schmidt rates him highly and he's paying it back in spades.
Great player. Hugely influentual. A fast-thinking, sniper, cum-forward. Happy to mix-it. Always know he's there and he has scored some key tries for us too.
He, was the difference today.

It would be much weirder. Stringer is still contracted to Munster, he has only joined Sarries on loan.
Boss is a Waikato lad. He played for them for than Ulster. He lived in NZ until he was into his mid twenties.
Stringer lived in Munster for over 30 years before leaving for a brief 3 months - a 3 month stint that could see him having to knock out Munster.
I suspect he is contracted that he won't face Munster.

You back from Toulouse Stag?
Did your charges enjoy themselves despite the result and will they be willing to give their all in Ulster's cause next week?
Not that we are going to need it of course!

That would be something Munster would have thought of. BUT. Given that situation happening, and if Sarries only had 1 fit SH - besides Stringer... could the ERC override it?

The ERC could hardly force Stringer to play against them.If it falls out that way they are victims of circumstance.
Yup, back from Toulouse. Had a great time with the Connacht team and fans. They are a credit to themselves and their province. Amazing city and Stade Ernest Wallon was a top experience.
Incredible atmosphere with both Connacht and Toulouse fans in full song and colour. The Men from the West have been bitten by the H-Cup bug.

Ah great man. Sounds like a great trip. I hope an Irish province wins the HC. For themselves and for Connacht. It's an extra-added incentive really. You carry their hopes on your back too. Good karma.
BTW, the Irish guy who's playing Moriarity in Sherlock, is brilliant.

Moriarty is a top character. I used read a lot of Sherlock Holmes as a nipper. With my old fella being a detective and all that.
Agree on Connacht. So down to Earth too. Long chats with several of the team.
I was talking to a lot of the French rugby touring agents and they said they were blown away by Connacht. IMO they were excellent. Toulouse destroyed them in the scrum but overall actually quite an even match.

Anyone else see that soccer player Dean Windass said that he tried twice last week to commit suicide. He said that he is telling media as he needs help. He said he finds that since hanging up the boots he has nothing to get up for in the morning.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Just been reading about that Stag. Good that he's opened up to speak about it, hope he gets the help he needs now.
And horribly I think he's right in that he's not alone in feeling that way in the footballing community.
And evening all, am so ready to absolutely crash out. Such a full on weekend, and I still haven't shaken the headache I've had since Weds! (consuming large quantities of alcohol hasn't helped I'll admit). Can't wait to get some sleep, but Sherlock is just tooo good.
