First topic message reminder :

Following on from Kenny's excellent idea to help tidy this section up, and stop lots of different threads about the same things, i have decided to set up this topic.
So any CONFIRMED signings or Extensions you hear about just add them here. For Rumours just put them on Kenny's RL news thread.

BRADFORD

Elliot Whitehead, who was in the final year of his contract, has penned a new deal with Bradford to remain at the club till 2016.

That's a surprising signing for me by the Wolves. Wheeler to me is a bit of a hit and miss players. 1 game good 3 very average.

SALFORD

Have signed forward Scott Taylor on a season long loan from Wigan.

Good move all round in my opinion, he's not going to be getting a game for Wigan so makes sense, and Salford get a decent young prop for when Hock gets banned.

I'M not saying Leigh are doing anything wrong, but when you look at there squad there seems to be a lot of big names in it.
Also not sure why they needed Highim, Beswick is brilliant in my opinion.

The whole cap issue confused me to be honest, I was under the impression that Bradford were up to the limit then they signed Steve Crossley and now James Mendeika who is another "utility" back. Not big names but I assume they are not playing for free!.

I couldn't understand Warrington letting him go then paying (albeit probably less than they received for Higham) to get Dwyer back from London? However having seen last nights' game at Salford he does look pretty sharp and a good pass, in the long run it could be a savvy piece of business.

Agree by the way Beswick is quality, Leigh I think have a better than evens chance of promotion, Higham, Ridyard, Brierley, Moi Moi, McNally on their day will give most SL clubs a run for their money, if they get momentum in a game teams have a hell of a task to stop them.

Castleford;

sign Gladwin Springer from Catalan Dragons, good signing, big unit.

St. Helens;

Josh Jones leaving for RU side Exeter.

Leeds;

sign Ireland international Anthony Mullally from Huddersfield for next season. This I think is another excellent signing for them, a year or two away from being regarded as one the best props in the competition IMO, in time a great replacement for Jamie Peacock.

Hull KR;

Sign Dane Chisholme from Canterbury Bulldogs for the rest of the season.

Bradford;

Sign Omari Caro (formerly KR) for the rest of the season - I really cannot fathom this at all other than to allow Mullaney to play in the halves??? Mullaney injured again this week, hopefully Gaskell at least will be fit for the middle 8's.

It is not the timing of signing that bother me, for example KR are missing Campese, another injury to Kelly or Blair and they might have a few problems so this seems perfectly reasonable. My issue is with certain teams sleepwalking through 16 - 17 games of the season with an uncompetitive squad then signing a new coach and various players/loan deals with a view to "artificially" retaining SL status, this might not break any rules but imo is not in the spirit of them.

Widnes have signed Chris Bridge for next season, can't make my mind up whether I like this signing or not. Would have been ace a few seasons back but he isn't the player he was, but he's far far far better than either of our centres

It pains me to say Widnes just seem happy to survive in Super League, we don't seem to have a great deal of ambition, re-signing Patrick Ah Van is probably testament to that, can score tries, but will cost you way more over the course of the season and shouldn't be anywhere near a SL club. I might get excited the day we sign a player still in their twenties with their best days ahead of them

I think Bridge is a good player and thus a quality signing, I suspect he has not shown up as well of late as Wire do not appear to be able to settle on a half-back combination. Ah Van was at Bradford, I can understand your point of view whilst solid and can kick goals he is not scaring anyone with his pace.

Whilst Widnes are in the middle 8's I cannot see them being in danger of losing SL status particularly with your home form. Next year I cannot see why they can't continue to steadily build and push on for a top 8 spot, I personally do not see them far behind Hull, Catalans, Wire or even Cas as is also evident from the table.

Wakey a revolving door,

there have been others but I cannot keep up however they have signed Bill Tupou (Canberra), Lee Smith (Newcastle RFU) until the end of the season, Anthony Mullally (Huddersfield) on loan. All to the end of the season only.

Matt Ryan has left the club, Kevin Locke (Loan I think from Salford unless he did leave?) is reportedly out for the rest of the season. I think Daniel Smith has/is gone/going to Huddersfield.

Bradford;

apparently talking to Cas re; James Clare

WARRINGTON this is with immediate effect.

Half Back Chris Sandow has joined from Parramatta on a 2 1/2 year deal.

LEEDS

Have signed forward Keith Galloway on a 3 year deal from West Tigers.

St HELENS

Have signed utility Dominique Peyrous on a 2 year deal from New Zealand Warriors.

HULL FC

Have signed back Carlos Tuimavave on a 3 year deal from Newcastle.

with regards the last 2 deals, why/

with regards Chris Bridge, i'm with you gazzy on this, still a good player, but a few years ago a great player. Though do feel that with him playing more regulary he might reproduce.

Also agree Beast about the signings before the 8s, Whats the point of having a squad at the start of the season, if you just going to change it half way through. No side is doing anything wrong, just dosn't seem particularlly right.

Right off to the sem final now.

Bradford;

joining in with the madness;

Matt Ryan (Wakefield) to the end of the season - this type of short term signing I do not like as mentioned.
James Clare (Cas) to the end of 2016
Dane Neilson (formerly St George Illawarra) to the end of 2016
At the least the other two are with the longer term in mind.

Hull;

Mahe Fonua (Melbourne Storm) from 2016 for 3 years.

Jordan Rankin and Setaimata Sa will be leaving the club at the end of the season, the former going to back to Aus.

Both of these from next year.

CATALAN

Have signed forward Glenn Stewart on a 3 year deal from South Sydney.

I know there losing a few (Dureau, Whitehead, Oldfield etc), but if you look at there signings (Pat Richards, Jodie Broughton, Dave Taylor, Richie Myler, Glenn Stewart and others), and who they''ve already got. You've got to say Catalan look to have an excellent squad for next year.

WARRINGTON

Have signed forward Mitchell Dodds on a 1 year deal from Brisbane.

This along with the Kurt Gidley signings just make nno sense what so ever to me.

Leigh,

according to the BBC sport website (they were wrong regarding Jordan Rankin going to Wakey) they have as rumoured signed Chase, Hansen, Patterson and Maitua from Salford. I assume if the report is correct that a number of their players will be moving on however they will be formidible in the Championship next year with some cricket scores a distinct possibility,Chase against part time players.....good luck with that.

Don't know about the other 2, but Patterson (3 years), and Maitua (1 year), have definitely signed for them.

Hull KR

Sign Chris Clarkson from Leeds, seemingly a replacement for Tyrone McCarthy. Thoughts Tiger, solid signing albeit I can't with respect to him imagine you doing cartwheels over this?

Salford sign;

Phil Joseph (Widnes)
Craig Kopczak (Hudds)
Gareth O'Brien (Wire)
Mark Flanagan (Saints)
Robert Lui (North Queensland)
Ben Murdock-Masila (Penrith)

and perhaps most significantly Tim Sheens are Director of Rugby for 3 years. Interesting mix, moving away from "big" names towards solid pro's who I think will do better next year(admittedly I do not know much about the Aussies).

according to the BBC sport website (they were wrong regarding Jordan Rankin going to Wakey) they have as rumoured signed Chase, Hansen, Patterson and Maitua from Salford.  I assume if the report is correct that a number of their players will be moving on however thy will be formidible in the Championship next year with some cricket scores a distinct possibility,Chase against part time players.....good luck with that.

Don't know about the other 2, but Patterson (3 years), and Maitua (1 year), have definitely signed for them.

Harrison Hansen has also signed (though I'm not sure for how long).

Sign Chris Clarkson from Leeds, seemingly a replacement for Tyrone McCarthy.  Thoughts Tiger, solid signing albeit I can't with respect to him imagine you doing cartwheels over this?

Salford sign;

Phil Joseph (Widnes)
Craig Kopczak (Hudds)
Gareth O'Brien (Wire)
Mark Flanagan (Saints)
Robert Lui (North Queensland)
Ben Murdock-Masila (Penrith)

and perhaps most significantly Tim Sheens are Director of Rugby for 3 years.  Interesting mix, moving away from "big" names towards solid pro's who I think will do better next year(admittedly I do not know much about the Aussies).

With regards to Clarkson, you're right about him being a replacement for McCarthy. You're also right about me not being overly impressed with him. A) I would rather a ball playing LF, than another solid but not special forward who fits in anywhere in the back 3. B) I would like our SR to be Larroyer & Donaldson with Lawler, Ollett, Horne as back ups with the above I feel that that is a more than capable back 3. Nothing against Clarkson, but to me he's just another solid forward, which we already have our fair share off. Though I hope he proves me wrong of course.

Not so many years ago Chris Clarkson was going to be the next big thing.
What went wrong?
