Euro 2012: Day 8 Thread
Ukraine v France (17:00, ITV 1)
Sweden v England (19:45, BBC 1)
Current Group Standings
Ukraine - 3
England - 1
France - 1
Sweden - 0
Group D for Day 8 of the tournament then. At 5, the co-hosts Ukraine will be looking to notch their second win of the competition by causing a shock against the French but in reality, France are strong favourites and will probably win. Then at 7:45, England will look to build on the foundations they've laid on Monday and get 3 points against a team they haven't beaten competitively in years. For Sweden, 3 points is near essential to them staying in the competition after a narrow defeat on Monday. My predictions:
Ukraine 1-2 France
Sweden 0-2 England
En-ger-land, En-ger-land, En-ger-land...

England need to get the win in order to be more confident in progressing through the group stage. England really need to watch out for Ibrahimovic, he's Sweeden's dangerman! Having said that, I hope and expect a win for England. Oh, and France.

England should win, they need to keep the ball better but Sweden shouldn't cause England huge problems.

Carroll and Welbeck expected up front with Young on the left and Milner on the right, no Ox.

Would like to see
England 3 - 0 Sweden
Ukraine 2 - 1 France
Good win for England, Ukraine through so won't be as up for the last game. Unlikely.

Welcome back billy
Reading some interesting comments on BBC. Both Larsson and McClaren like how Roy has got the shape right in the team and that they look organised. I tend to agree, though I would like to see us retain the ball a tad better.

Welcome back EireBilly
Swedish fans seem set to outnumber English fans 15,000-5,000 tonight. Somehow I'm pretty sure England will make more noise. Hoping the speculation is right and we do start Carroll in a 4-4-2 system.

McClaren likes how organised we are? He could of tried doing that himself as manager of england

Billy, welcome back mate
England should have too much for this Swedish defense, I just hope they put in a good performance. Disappointed that Milner's kept his spot if confirmed, but I do understand the logic in playing Carroll.

Ireland will still performing now they can't get through. An attacking 2-2 draw with Italy on the cards.
Milner is one of the worse players i've seen, and i've seen Titus Bramble, Steve Sidwell, Emile Heskey.

Why not? You think England will cause Sweden any problems? 0-0 written all over it.

I thought Milner was one of our better players against France.

I'd rather have Young and Oxlade-Chamberlain on the wings than Milner.

Ha
He played ok in my eyes. Much better than Young who should now go back to the wing (hopefully).

2-2 draw I think for the England match
Im hoping Shevchenko can do the business again against France. 2-1 that one could be although I think it will probably be in France favour

Lightning.
There was a case of lightning killing every footballer on a pitch once, so it'll be for safety reasons.
Looks very bad.

that's a cracking storm! good call by the ref, like crimey said, there have been cases of lightening striking players. Man Utd had to call a training session off because of lightning.

Play suspended to a massive massive storm. Good news for England and Sweden, if this game is replayed tomorrow (which looks a near certainty) then Ukraine and France have a day less rest, day less to prepare etc. Just looked at conditions for Kiev and it should be fine tonight

Really looking forward to the game tonight and expect a decent convincing England win. Sweden aren't what they used to be and if we are to be taken seriously in this tournament then we have to impress tonight.

I don't know, we've had a poor record against them in competitive games and didn't look convincing in the last friendly. I expect us to be more open and attacking against them, I'd happily take a 1-0 win though. The current England team need wins rather then putting in great performances as well we ain't on that level. Hopefully after the Euros and with younger players we add style to substance.

Surely this game will end just as the other starts?
When the games are on at the same time, I'll probably end up having one on the computer, the other on TV. Haven't missed a match of the Euros yet.
