Welcome to Season 5 of the Aviva Premiership fantasty rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (Ozzy3213) as to how the situation will be resolved.
Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (me) will remove players at it’s discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.
Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the matchday 22's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have a listed senior academy squad of 20 players. Players who are in the senior academy must be under 22 years of age as of 1st September 2012 (therefore must have been born on or after 1st Septmber 1990). Players who are under the age of 20 (so born after 1st September 1992) AND are in the academy of the club that you are managing in real life, DO NOT need to be listed as senior academy players as part of your 20, but are available to you in this game and cannot be poached by other clubs without paying you a fee.
Should a player not listed in your 20 senior academy players, but part of the clubs academy in real life move clubs in real life, then you will have first option of promoting him to your listed senior academy. If you choose not to take this option he will become property of the club that he moves to in real life in this game.
Transfers wrote:
- Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.- Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 3 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. These players must be bid for on the Championship/National League bidding page, and each bid will be considered by me on it's own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.- Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by me against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
Foreign transfers will unlimited during the off season and 2 during the season. The exact dates of the two transfer windows during the season is to be confirmed.
Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation
Compensation will be paid as follows
£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other
If a released player plays in real life for a team outside of this game he will be deemed to have returned to that team. If not then he will be deemed to have signed for a Championship side. If another manager wants to pick a released player up, they will have to bid for him in the same way as for a foreign or Championship/National League player.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be Heineken Cup, Amlin Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A thread will be put up for managers to name their teams on Thursdays, then on Fridays, managers will post the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.
In addition, each team must have the following:-
At least 10 England qualified players in your matchday 23, and at least 5 of those must be in your starting XV.
At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.
All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).
Failure to comply with these rules will result in forfeiting the match and a 1 league point deduction.
If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.
Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.
Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.
Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point for a first offence, two for a second offence and so on.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.
£1.5m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc.

Good deal all round for everyone. you have ended up with Smith. Pooly has SBW in magical form and i have Genia.

Re: Homepage
SBW has changed massively since going to NZ. He's a complete centre now were he used to be like a top league player playing union if you know what I mean. I never thought he'd be as good as he has this season.
Shame to lose him but have it from a NZ fan he's coming back at some point next S15.
It was some good dealing that, Genia has kicked to another level and Nick has Evans & Dupey(I really rate him)

You will be starting with fully fit squads in R1, injuries might come the following week, although I will be having a look at how affected by the RC squads are before making a decision.

If we have injuries during the RC then we should have them during the 6n also to level it up.

But then I wouldnt have a team Mat...
How many players are people losing over the RC? I think I lose two Argies, two ABs and de Villiers, so it isn't all that bad.

It's all about balance. That's the whole point of this 40 limit thing I think. It's why I've kept players like Payne etc who can play numerous positions and always available

BdP, JdP, Simmons, Hougaard, Lambie, Nonu, Habana and Ioane.
Simmons and the wingers are what appear to hurt me the most going on comments in predos over the summer.

I lose
JDJ, Etzbeth, Alberts, Genia, Carter, Barnes, Horne, Gear, Strauss also potentially lose Goosen, guildford, Coonie on standby.
Could also have lost burger and Kahui if he was fit.
That's some big names to lose. Agree its all about balance which is why good youngsters are imperative

I'm lucky that there are only two or so AP games over the 6Nations, as that is where I do struggle - Pooly I've done the same as you in terms of trying to get players in who can cover a few positions, really tried to do this in my backrow/locks and backthree.

The fact that Alberts can play 4 to international standard is great for me. Can see him playing in some games at 4 when i am trying to control ball in bad conditions etc. Barnes ability to play ten and Kahuis versatility a help also.
A both sides prop is really useful. hope coonie can master TH

If that happens someone'll have to edit my team for me!! Are people fielding RC players for the first Prem round or not?

I thought players were away at the RC for the first prem fixtures??
No idea prop. I was banking on playing my RC team until the end of the RC meaning none of my big gun SH players available

Re: Homepage
Props were a real issue with me last year, but hopefully I've sorted that out this year as think I have signed 4 internationals there in post-season. Also it sounds as though Mako Vunipola will be getting a lot more action at Sarries this year, apparently had a good pre-season for them.
Who are people hoping their breakthrough youngsters will be this season? I've got a couple of centres, Mark Bennett has been signed by Clermont and is an 18 year old Scot, whilst Tom Stephenson is captaining England u18s and could well feature in a few AP games for Saints this year.

I think Arno Botha for me will break through and have a good Currie cup.
He has been training with SA as a player they are keen on also.
Also think Ryan Mills and Iain Clarke could come through a bit.
Clarke a bit too small but already scored 2 tries on AP debut and comfortable on the ball.
He took the ball at ten against Leinster and scored on the weekend. He is a wing but with more about him than just pace

Wade seems a different kind of player, he's pretty physical. Clark got schooled by Short in the 7's in defence, he was shocking.

Re: Homepage
Clarke looks a really good prospect - is he the one that did very well in the 7s? Gloucester certainly know how to produce an attacking back! Still want May in the England starting XV, or bench though!
Wade's a great little player, watched him a fair few times last season and was really surprised at how well he can tackle - only issue I see for him is that he can be caught with a good cross kick.
I'm hoping Tyler Bleyendaal kicks on next season, he shows glimpses of how good he can be, but needs to get some game time to improve ascan't always be Carter's understudy - see him potentially having a great battle with Cruden for the AB's 10 shirt post-Carter.
Think I signed the Ab's and SA's u20s captains this year, so hopefullyone of those will kick on too.

during RC I will lose Hore, Coetzee, Daniel, Spies, Pienaar, Jantjies, Smith, JP Pieterson, Basson. Some of those Saffers are maybes and might not make the match day squad though.
I'm hoping for Yarde to have a big season, he looks the part. And Anthony Watson in a year or 2 could be quality. Gerard Ellis looks a bit of a monster as well.

With players like Barrett coming through who I think is younger cant see him been in with a shout myself.

To be fair if you based your opinions on defending on 7s then there are a lot of players who played in the 7s you would not rate. Clarke made some big names look stupid including tom biggs etc
He is a real threat and is really young. Scoring 2 tries on your AP debut says something. He is too small currently but lots think he has a real chance of making it.

My favourite prospect on the wing is Elliott at Saints - got a great eye for the try line, similar to Ashton in style.

Looks a damn good finisher, seems to be very good in timing of his runs.

Trouble is I think people now put too much emphasis on defence, instead of what an attacking player can bring to a team - England have done this for years and we are only starting to show glimpses of this changing.
I would always have picked JSD on one wing for us (if he wasnt always injured or ill!) as he would have really made our backline dangerous!
Good thing is that Ashton and Foden are very good defenders, great tacklers and very good positionally - so we can definitely bring in a flair winger, and we seem to be getting quite a few of those - May, Sharples, Wade. Like all three, but think May will have the most to offer eventually.
Could have such a good backline by 2015 WC!

Would rather have someone who can score or create two tries, then someone who mucks up and concedes one try.
Best way to learn is for attacking wingers to get exposed to the England setup - rather have May than say Strettle, Monye etc. The boy can tackle too, just think his positioning isnt quite there.
I like the look of Miller at Sale, how old is he? Bath have a good 12 coming through called Ben Mosses, hope he gets games this season.
What do people make of Niall Morris at Tigers? Was impressed each time I saw him really, seemed to play just like Geordan Murphy.

Re: Homepage
There are quite a few wingers at international that don't have rock solid defence. Shane Williams etc.
JSD would still do a Job for England and is great defensively these days. Surely a better option than strettle. You need to score to win and we will not do that with strettle.
Defence gets better with age also. HAbana was shoddy defensively when he first broke into Boks.
Look at JOC he was the same and shaky at first (to be fair he was about 12) then he became a decent defender on the wing. Put him 12 and he struggles defensively currently but will not in a year or so.
Defending gets better with experience. Sharples has come on leaps and bounds in that respect and i imagine will be better defensively again this year.
Jp pietersen is another who can now defend well despite being a liability when he first started on wing

Just throwing this out there, but after Drivers comments about it being a bit hard to deal with battling it out at the bottom of the league, woudl it be worth introducing a rule whereby if you are in the bottom two places you only need to field 9 English players?
A lot of the problem in bottom two could be that they dont have the same numbers of godo English in their squads.
Just a suggestion.

Don't agree. Can't alter rules of a league in my opinion. Budgetary things can be used but it is down to hard work of managers rather than affecting standings.

Guys
As most of you have seen i'v grown fustrated and a bit peeved off about sitting at the bottom of the AP for the last 4 seasons and this pre-season not going that well. It's come to a point where i am losing enthusiasm for the game and have taken the teams i'v had (Worcester , Exeter and Welsh) as far as i can.
I'v told Pete i will make a decision this week as to whether or not i will be involved in this game anymore. So hold out for a decision.

Driver, can understand that it must be annoying - but would say that you have really improved your squad from last year and you will be a lot more competitive this season, especially at home.

I feel your pain Driver, not much fun losing every week. I think you're 2/3 top players from being fully competitive.
Be a shame to lose somebody as we've all been together so long!
