I've discussed it in the Liverpool FC thread.

It's not for just Liverpool fans, just a place to discuss all things Liverpool. I didn't want to keep taking other topics off-topic.

I'm not being negative Olly but buying Curtis Davies is a ticket to the championship. You can't be happy with that potential signing?

Saints fan then? I'll stick Jay Rodriguez up, that was a hefty price. Steven Davis may turn out to be your best signing; it's hardly something to celebrate but he was the best midfielder in the SPL.

Rodallega is just one of those players who is so frustrating to watch. One day he is extremely good and then there's the other days......
I think Rodallega is an appaling finisher but if it's a free transfer then it's worth a gamble, especially from Fulham. Does that pave the way for Dempsey to leave?

Modric to hand in transfer request
Doubt it, Johnson left on a free. Fulham still only likely to sell for big money to a CL club.

I'll wait and see what happens in the transfer market.
Still think QPR, Reading, Southampton, Norwich, West Ham and Wigan are either at the same level or worse.

Can't see Fulham getting that high. Especially because it seems Dempsey is off, no Pogrebnyak, lost Johnson.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
I just got a feeling about Swansea under Laudrup. Basically he admitted he'd never seen them play and had to watch videos of their style of play. I don't know much about their new signings but Swansea had great team spirit, many home-grown, english speaking players and now it seems he's just going to bring in foreign players who will probably upset the whole environment they once had their. Losing Sigurdsson will hurt them and isn't Sinclair's future uncertain?
My picks for relegation are Reading, Southampton, Swansea
@GSC - you obviously expect NUFC to have a poor season, I actually get where your coming from. Living upto last years standard and being in Europe will be near on impossible. I think we will keep most of our players but then slowly lose them next year.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
I don't think poor neccesarily, around 7 or 8 or so.
Sinclair isn't that great truth be told, I'd take a big money offer. Swansea play in a more foreign style in any case, it could be argued that a foreign manager would be better placed to continue their style, and bring in players to reinforce it.

I must admit but that is an exciting side that has undoubted potential to really make an impression on the Prem League. Just a shame RVP doesn't see that potential. Wenger may get slated but he's not a fool, he was slowly re-building Arsenal after the huge losses of Fabregas & Nasri, it was always going to take a couple of years.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
I think Swansea will be fine. Laudrop has brought in some handy players which he has worked with in Spain, technically good players who will fit in well there. They are after a striker, hopefully if they can get a genuine goal scorer and hold onto Allen they will be fine. They are better imo than:
Villa
Wigan
Norwich
Reading
West Ham
Southampton
Fulham
Sunderland
That at least puts them mid table at least in my book.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
Not sure that Swansea under new management and losing Sigurdsson are better than Fulham or Sunderland. Also Lambert is no mug, he's gone to Villa at the perfect time where he can only improve the situation. They will all buy into his methods and he's bought some young exciting players. They also have Darren Bent which in this league is priceless. Swansea have no natural goalscorer which at the back end of last season was evident. The rest of the teams I agree with though.

I echo what other Utd fans are saying, we don't need Lucas, we need Strootman to anchor the midfield. From what SAF has said about Kagawa, he will play further forward, rather than in the cm position.
I would like to see:
RB
LB
CDM
CM (Passing midfielder e.g. a schweinstiger type player)

Modric won't get in ahead of Di Maria, anyone who has watched him since he's been there will know what a big part of their success he has been. He won't be making way for Modric. Modric will maybe alternate with Ozil/Alonso/Khedira. Don't really know why Real are looking to sign him really, I can only think its because Alonso is at the back end of his career, and they see him as the ideal replacement.
As for Moura, I'v heard people raving about him. I haven't seen him play. I would rather Kagawa Play in that hole, like SAF has suggested he will do, then have a holding midfielder in Strootmen in the cm position with Carrick/Scholes/Cleverly/Anderson the other options in the more creative role.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
Debuchy's a good player, I'd definitely have him as 1st choice at Utd.
I really doubt Lucas would go to Man Utd. Fergie doesn't have that sort of money to spend on one player at the moment.
I don't like Ozil on the wing but that is how Madrid would set up I think. As for the Man Utd set up, I think Shinji is too far back. I'd swap his position with Moura and get a proper DM.

£11m wtf, quite shocked at the fee to be honest, especially when you could go for Demba Ba for £7.5m and offer him something he couldn't refuse. Why would Roma sell so easily?

I'm not sure you can say "£11m wtf" then "I wonder why Roma would sell so easily" in the same sentence. They picked him up on a free last year, so 11 mil is a great return.

Re: Big Premier League Signings II
Fabio Borini was was not picked up for free by Roma, so that's nonsense. Italian football works very differently, especially when a player's rights are owned by two different clubs. Roma paid €1.25m to loan him and then paid €5m euros to buy the other 50% of his rights only in June from Parma after he scored 9 goals last season.
That's why I'm surprised he's been sold. He's not a prolific goalscorer and I just think for the fee paid that Liverpool could of gone elsewhere for a proven PL striker.

It's obvious to everybody that Borini has been signed because he has a personal relationship with Rodgers, they've worked together before and Rodgers is a big fan. Demba Ba has never worked with Brendan Rodgers before.

Sorry, didn't realise he went to Parma first then Roma. Chill out John.
Brendan obviously realises the talent that Borini has, and what he expects from a centre forward plus he has a really good relationship with him (apparently Fabio broke down when he told him about the pre-contract signing with Parma ((not Roma))
