- Spoiler:
- It is preseason and the new rich owners of Reading have decided that Brian McDermott is not the man to take the club forward, and your team have been recruited to oversee the plans that will ultimately see them stay up in the Premier League.
You will find a suitable new manager and have been given £20m for buying players to achieve this target. The cost of player purchases will be those on http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk plus 20%. You can raise further funds through players sales – the price you will receive will be http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk less 20%. Loaning in a player will cost 20% of their TM value. A player who is not contracted, will be free to join you at no cost.
You will present your new manager and squad list (with details on all ins and outs), plus any other innovative ideas you have that will help the quest of staying up. This should be posted on this page no later than midday on Tuesday 17th July.
You will be judged on which team makes the best, most innovative and most realistic choices to keep Reading up.

Holloway
Solskjaer
Bielsa (major long shot)
Were on my initial list, but there must be others.
I like Curbs, I think he is everything we should look for.

- I think Curbs should be our manager. Definately a realistic target, and although he has some time out of football, he would be just what Reading need. Curbishley as manager. Well happy with that?

- Former Charlton and West Ham manager Bull
Have a quick check on Wiki if you'd like, but he took Charlton up (and down, and up again) and then stabilised them as a Premiership club, where they were promptly relegated when he left.
Saved West Ham from the drop - after being bottom at Christmas - with two 1-0 victories over the champions for good measure. Then took us back to mid-table.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
- Spoiler:
- Viva I think we need players of Premier League or Top European League experience, to add to what we already have. Maybe a youngster or two, just to keep the squad not too old. Positions of need are:
RB
CB
CM
RM
ST
Also look to exploit free transfers and the loan market, if you are struggling

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
- Spoiler:
- Centre Mid
Nigel Reo-Coker is a free agent, I know many clubs would be interested in him, he has played many times for clubs in the bottom end of the league he has loads of experience and is a leader. Trouble is he might prefer to go back to Laandan after staying away for 6 years and the fact we already have a couple of defensive minded midfielders.
James McCarthy of Wigan a very talented player who has the creative spark that we may need he might not have the experience as others but we lack someone with a spark.
Borja Valero plays for relagated Vilareal a classy player if used rightly has very good passing skills if we want to play that type of Football. Maybe the bad experience at WBA might put him off but he is a good player.
Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
- Spoiler:

London isn't too far away so I can't see him being too bothered there. Good shout too.

I think we need to look at more attacking/creative midfielders because Reading have a few defensive players.

I think we can stop using spoilers now!
I wondered about Joe Cole, but he is £7m on TM and his wages might be prohibitive

I was thinking of Cole too but I think Rogers wants to see what he can do Liverpool are lacking creativity and £7m is too much.
Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
I tell you who we should get, Thomas Ince or Matt Phillips. I love both of them as wingers!
Reckon Benayoun might be available? No idea what his value is but he is still class.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
I'd prefer Matt Phillips.
Benayoun would cost £4.8m including the extra 20%. I think he is a quality played and showed signs at Arsenal if he is given game time he can be a threat. Can play him across the midfield giving us versatility and also some creativity.
What formation did they line up with last season?

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Looks like a 4-4-2 to me, with Roberts/Hunt generally up top and then McAnuff LW, Kebe RW.

An two CM who sit back more? Use the width a lot? We can't drastically change the side.
Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Yeah they play 4-4-2 last season. I like the Matt Phillips shout. Very good right winger, should be a definate shout.

Yeah thye like to get it out wide to Kebe and McAnuff. Kebe is more of a get to the byline and cross, where as McAnuff likes to cut inside and shoot. In CM I think they usually had Karacan and Leigetwood, who are both more defensive minded I would say, although Karacan is quite creative

I know Leigertwood plays more often than not.
I think assuming Curbs is the gaffer he'd like a 4-4-2 generally speaking too, so it's a good fit.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Yeah that is a problem. However if we had him, it would give us the option to add in a CAM and play 4-2-3-1 if needs be. I think we need to be able to show a bit of changeablilty, as like Blackpool showed if you get found out, you sink fast

VivaPaulScholes wrote:Where would we fit Benayoun? Rotation with the other wingers?
He could go in a few places. For us he used to be in the middle but you could use him as a withdrawn striker, or on either wing, or next to a DM. He may be a little lightweight in the CM role though, that's the only worry.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Against the bigger teams we might have to play 5 in midfield and at home 4-4-2. So what do we reckon with Benayoun?
Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
I'd take him if we agree, just because he is capable of opening up a defence which will be invaluable in some games.
