- It is preseason and the new rich owners of Reading have decided that Brian McDermott is not the man to take the club forward, and your team have been recruited to oversee the plans that will ultimately see them stay up in the Premier League.
You will find a suitable new manager and have been given £20m for buying players to achieve this target. The cost of player purchases will be those on http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk plus 20%. You can raise further funds through players sales – the price you will receive will be http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk less 20%. Loaning in a player will cost 20% of their TM value. A player who is not contracted, will be free to join you at no cost.
You will present your new manager and squad list (with details on all ins and outs), plus any other innovative ideas you have that will help the quest of staying up. This should be posted on this page no later than midday on Tuesday 17th July.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers

- Yeah plus Mariappa is a very good CB. I really wanted Norwich to sign him lol
And that's fine Sodhat
If we can aim to get the squad finalised by Sunday, it will give us Monday to get our presentation together, and to think of any little things that can help us stay up

- Olly what RB are we going with? An are we buying Benayoun or take him on loan?
Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
We shall take Benayoun on loan for 800K I think?
And RB wise, I don't know yet. Who do you guys think we should go with?

- Spoiler:
- Well De Silvestri will cost £4.2M so I think that could be done. That means we have spent £5M on Benayoun (loan) and De Silvestri. Not bad work so far chaps

An Benayoun as an AM/winger/SS

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Ok
RB - De Silvestri - I am happy with him for £4.2M
CB - Mariappa - Again happy with for £2.2M
RM - I would prefer to go with Phillips over Ince tbh. Another option could be Snodgrass.
CM - Reo Coker - For a free transfer you cant go wrong.
ST - Dunno, but we have time to look.
And Benayoun on loan for 800K is a definate.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Owen I don't know think we could do without him I rather spend the money on striker that we can rely on. Phillps I rate as a Championship striker don't think he can cut it at the top level.
Need to see what SOdhat says, we got a lot of time left to find a striker, would we be bringing all of the new players as first teamers?

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
If we are sticking with 4-4-2 Benayoun won't be first XI. Mariappa would be better than both our CB's IMO. De Silvestri and Reo Coker would definately start, and dunno about the striker.
I think we need sort of a poacher type of striker. We already have Pogrebynak as the target man, so a quicker sort of striker is needed I think

RB - De Silvestri - I am happy with him for £4.2M Agreed, although are we sure he'd swap Fiore for a promoted side?
CB - Mariappa - Again happy with for £2.2M Agreed
RM - I would prefer to go with Phillips over Ince tbh. Another option could be Snodgrass. I like all options, and I suppose Phillips has the Prem experience?
CM - Reo Coker - For a free transfer you cant go wrong. Agreed
ST - Dunno, but we have time to look. Owen is possible, Kevin Doyle/Fletcher may be available?

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Personally I reckon we can do better (although maybe that's harsh on him)
Agree that we need a quicker kind of striker too. I'd suggest Andy Johnson but I believe he has already been on the move. Apparently Defoe is available - but I imagine that would blow our budget sky high!

Yeah Defoe is crazy, and Andy Johnson is well past it IMO. De Silvestri RB, Reo Coker CM, Mariappa CB, Matty Phillips RM. I will add them to the squad with the appropriate prices etc if we are all agreed on them?
Striker wise what about Jordan Rhodes?

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Very good shout Sodhat. I like Guidetti, and his loan fee would be £1.3M so not a bad option. Viva and Bull what do you think?
We could always release some more guys if needs be.
So far we have (if we all agree):
RB - De Silvestri - £4.2M
CB - Mariappa - £2.2M
CM - Reo Coker - Free
RM - Matty Phillips - £2.7M
CAM - Yossi Benayoun - 800K loan
So that would take us to 25 players if I add them in.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
I'm not 100% sure that De SIlvestri would join he ain't getting much game time and is not the same highly rated player he was a few years ago.
I agree with Olly that we need a smaller, quick striker someone like Owen but not Owen. We can rotate Benayoun with the other players cause he fills a lot of positions.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Maybe we could spend a little more on the striker if he is the final piece to the puzzle?
I mean we have a fair budget left after all the other moves.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
If not De Silvestri who could we get Viva??
Yeah if we have some cash left sodhat, we could invest in a real good striker. Also we need another GK, to take it up to 3. I was thinking Butland who would be around £1.2M, so he could be a back up. Our squad needs 3 GK's

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
We already have Smithies young keeper I don't think Butland would want to move to us to play as our 3rd choice and when we already have a bright propect in Smitthies.
Other RB's hmmmm let me have a look.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
We don't have Smithies Viva. We have McCarthy....
Anyway what about just bringing in a GK like Hahnemann?? Experienced guy, who can step in if needed. Also a free transfer

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Yeah he did. So he will be the 2nd/3rd choice GK.
So signings so far are:
RB - Dunno.
CB - Adrian Mariappa for £2.2M
CM - Nigel Reo Coker on a free
RM - Matty Phillips for £2.7M
GK - Marcus Hahnemann on a free
Yossi Benayoun on a loan for 800K.
Strikers - Guidetti loan possibly?

Hahnemann good choice. We've got a bit of money so I thought we can splash a little on a decent striker.
Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Yep we would have around £14 million to spend on a RB and a Striker.

Viva I love that guy. Spurs don't want him either, he showed he was good with Norwich last season and he would cost £4.2M. Thoughts?

Similar age to Walker and I doubt he'll get into the Spurs side now when his up against the RB of the season. Still staying around in London, I like him a very good FB and more likley to get him then Di Silvestri.
Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
This is a random thought, but what of Landon Donovan? Reckon he'd be happy to leave LA for glamourous Berkshire?

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Yes he is a very good RB. Has pace, can defend very well one on one, and likes to get forward. I am all for getting Naughton.
Also he has had a year of Prem Experience and is only getting better.

I'm pretty sure that he wouldn't tbh. And if he was coming to England, I reckon the only team he would go to would be Everton. Good thinking however sodhat. Gold star for you

I agree with Olly if Donovan was to say he wants to come to England Everton would be the favourites to land him.

Right here we go with our signings so far.
GK - Marcus Hahnemann - Free transfer
RB - Kyle Naughton - £4.2M
CB - Adrian Mariappa - £2.2M
RM - Matt Phillips - £2.7M
CM - Nigel Reo Coker - Free transfer
CAM - Yossi Benayoun - Loan for 800K
If we are all agreed on them guys, I will add them to the squad. That would take us to 26 players at the moment, but we can release some guys later
