Task One
- Spoiler:
- It is preseason and the new rich owners of Reading have decided that Brian McDermott is not the man to take the club forward, and your team have been recruited to oversee the plans that will ultimately see them stay up in the Premier League.
You will find a suitable new manager and have been given £20m for buying players to achieve this target. The cost of player purchases will be those on http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk plus 20%. You can raise further funds through players sales – the price you will receive will be http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk less 20%. Loaning in a player will cost 20% of their TM value. A player who is not contracted, will be free to join you at no cost.
You will present your new manager and squad list (with details on all ins and outs), plus any other innovative ideas you have that will help the quest of staying up. This should be posted on this page no later than midday on Tuesday 17th July.
You will be judged on which team makes the best, most innovative and most realistic choices to keep Reading up.

- I'm not sure, he was getting in to the Utd team more when he was fit and I think they'd probably like to keep him to strengthen that area of their team. They've already done the whole 'Prem experience' thing letting him go to Wigan.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
Well from what we have from all of us we are all in agreement about selling these players:
So if Bull you can do the release prices for these guys, we can release them and get started on bringing in some players. If we need to release more guys at a later point we can.
- Spoiler:
Sean Morrison
Brynjar Gunnarsson
Simon Church
Hal Robson Kanu
Mathieu Manset

Ok Bull good work
We will release all 5 guys, the two who have no price, we will just have to release for no price. So our budget is a grand £20.88M!!!

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
We could strategically decide which higher value players we could do without too. The list is here:
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/reading-fc/kader/verein_1032.html
Although to be honest I don't think there is much we can get for anyone! Maybe we should be identifying targets and then we can prioritise who we need and if we have to make even more cash from somewhere, we'll try and release others.

Just signed for Juve mate.
Plus they do have to be realistic otherwise our plan fails at the very first hurdle and Afro will reject it for being mental.

Right I have updated the OP. We have space in our squad for 5 more players. I think we need to look at the defence first, because although they were one of the best in the championship last season, they are lacking in quality. Especially RB. Also maybe look for another winger.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
- Spoiler:
- Ok I have thought of a RB. Nathaniel Clyne. £1.8M so add on 20% would be £2.16M. Thoughts? Good young prospect, realistically could get him

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
- Spoiler:
- Clyne has been linked with some big clubs I think if we offered the right amount of money for him we might get him because Palace are resigned to losing him I think £2.16m might not be enough

- Spoiler:
- He is, and good value, but I think we should look to an experienced PL player if we are trying to upgrade the position.
Just a couple I considered:
Martin Kelly (behind Johnson at L'pool)
Angel Rangel
Ryan Taylor
I also looked at that Czechy chappie, but he went to Wolfsburg.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
- Spoiler:
- I think Kelly would prefer to stay at Liverpool, he will get chances at Liverpool with Europa and Johnson probably losing form. Would Swansea sell Rangel to a potential relegation rival? Taylor we might have a chance.
You on about that lad with the same name as the Kenyan runner? He impressed me at the Euros. I'll go on the hunt for a RB, what type we looking for experienced one? Experience in English Premier league or experience throughout Europe?

Yeah Gebre-Selassie, but he was snatched up by Wolfsburg (as was Pilar, who I also liked)
I'd say get a cross section of all you listed

- Spoiler:
- What do we think of Jermaine Pennant on the RW? I think Stoke would sell, he's experienced and I think he'd be good whipping balls to Pog.
For RB I actually like Taylor a lot as a thought. Dangerous crosser and set piece taker, to match Harte.

Alright guys I have devised a plan. If you all whip up a shortlist of players that you think/would like to sign. If you could have them done by tomorrow that would be quality. Remember looking at defence and a RB, CB and a winger are important needs.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
- Spoiler:
- Lorenzo De Silvestri Not getting much game time at Fiorentina he is 24 now way back in the pecking order in the Italy team maybe a chance to move abroad but he may see Reading as a lesser team.
Andreas Beck plays for midtable Hoffenheim played a lot of games for them could be a chance for him to leave now wouldn't cost much.
One of the Olsson brothers I know they play left but I've seen them at right back cheap playing for trampy Blackburn.
Tony Hibbert bags of premier league experience he would help out the team and he is used to playing for a team who struggles would get more game time at Reading only thing is he has been at Everton for 10 years and seems like he is happy to stay there forever.

- Spoiler:
Craig Bellamy: Does not get many games at liverpool and is 31years old where at reading he would start. If a buy is not possible a loan might be.
Boswinga: Free Agent would get to stay in the prem as well.

- Spoiler:
- If Bellamy was to leave Liverpool I think he would go back to Cardiff, Boswinga his wages would probably be too high for us and I don't think he is that good anyway.
Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
- Spoiler:
- Richard Stearman - Recently relegated at Wolves. Would jump at chance to get back to Prem, and is a solid RB.
Sam Ricketts - Again recently relegated. Can play LB and RB.
Scott Dann - Would be a great CB, and is pretty cheap.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers

- Bull I think we're good for keepers it's a position you don't really want to mess with unless you are getting a much better keeper stability is needed between the sticks in breathes confidence to the back four when you can trust your keeper not saying the keepers you mentioned are bad but I think we don't HAVE to improve there.
Matt Jarvis is a good one he is a very good player I like him but dont the Reading captain play on left wing?
Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers

- It's a funny one because McAnuff was a right winger when he played at West Ham and I think he could play either side. I reckon we have to keep him in the side because it would de-stabilise to drop a captain, but he could definitely play on the right.

Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
- Spoiler:
- £7m thats a lot of money I don't know if we can use that much on just one player as good as he is I don't think its justified unless we bring in other players an we have money left over. P.S Just because we have £20m dont mean we have to spend it all.
Task is a lot harder then it looks
Re: The Read Hot Chilli Peppers
- Spoiler:
- It is a tough task, but we can do it. Really we just need to improve the defence, because they are strong up front, midfield could be improved if we have cash left over, and GK's are alright. My main positions I think we need are: RB, CB, RM and maybe a CM.
