aston villa thread
First topic message reminder :
well after the terrible frustrating long ball defend defend mcleash season ,villa have now a good prospect in Paul Lambert . when Martin oNeil left i was at first gutted like many villa fans but then when u add up all the average players he bought along with high wages then u can see why learner decided enough was enough .so Martin walked out . next come along gerard houllier a few weeks late in the season . lots of villa fans didnt take to him because of the early results but i liked the way we played under him and when he bought Darren bent and the players settled in his style of play we rocketed up the league .even beating Liverpool in revenge after that 4 nil beating and his infamous badly chosen words that didnt sit well with villa fans .poor health parted another manager . then come Alex .no more needs to be said on that . so now we have Paul . a few good signings come in and i for one now feels we can compete in cup games and perhaps a eighth position in league .

Incredibly tough start for Villa on paper but should you wind up with 4/6 points after them 3 matches then you've done really well.

Re: aston villa thread
I do worry about this weekend, Villa probably had their best games against us last weekend and as good as our attack is, I'm not convinced defensively.
I can see Rodgers starting Lucas and Allen in an attempt to shield the defence and allow Agger and Toure to focus on Benteke.
Don't underestimate the Liverpool attack though, Coutinho looked very good against Stoke and a half-fit Sturridge looked hungry for goals. Wouldn't be surprised to see a high-scoring game to be honest. Both teams are obviously stronger in attack.

He didn't in the corresponding fixture last season Olly.
Wish I had Brenda's number. Would love to ask him why he signed Kolo Toure in the form of a drunken explicit ridden text message from the comfort of my bunker.

Hey Lambert vs Rodgers record reads Lambert 4-2 Rodgers, and that's despite Rodgers supposedly having the better side in most of those encounters.FreekShow wrote:He didn't in the corresponding fixture last season Olly.

To be fair, I thought Toure looked really good against Stoke. Obviously not the biggest of tests, but thought he looked much better than he has for at least 2 years.FreekShow wrote:He didn't in the corresponding fixture last season Olly.

Think he and Agger will be able to control Benteke, I just worry that it will allow Weimann and Agbonlahor the space to work in.

I don't think he's been anywhere near decent since his Arsenal days. Time will tell.

Well played Villa. I know there's been a lot of comparisons between Benteke and Drogba but I didn't know Benteke play acted too. Twice tonight.
Just watched the highlights on Sky. Commentator made me laugh with his judging of two handball situations. Ref gives one against Benteke in an aerial challenge with Brani, commentator says ref got it wrong because it was momentum of the battle that made his arm go there. Same thing happens with JT and the commentator calls for a penalty and proclaims the ref is awful.

Re: aston villa thread
also there was a call about chelsea second goal where Ivanovic should have been sent off minutes earlier from an elbow incident on benteke . i try not to blame refs because end of the day villa didnt score enough goals to win . we are linked to a danish player from Ajax viktor fischer . high scoring creative midfielder just what villa needsCFCNick wrote:Well played Villa. Not a fan of the play acting.
Tekkers is a big strong lad, no need for that.
He does crack me up though when he gets in a strop.
Still think we were unlucky not to get the point.
Couple of good saves from Cech kept them in it to.
Some confidene to come from that game going into saturday.
Gotta beat Liverpool saturday.
Keep the confidence up, c'mon Villa.

Re: aston villa thread
Like you westi I am still positive despite not getting anything last night. But for a couple of decisions not going our way we could have come out of the game with a point. Am not going to get carried away and start talking silly talk about Europe or anything but I am generally positive about this season.
As a fan I can and do accept losing but for me it is about doing it in the right way and this is why I like Lambert so much, under previous managers we would have gone to Stamford Bridge last night with one striker stuck up on his own and everyone else behind the ball solely in the hope we would not get a shellacking. Lambert started with three attack minded players in the starting line up and had a go at them. Far more positive and good to watch.

Re: aston villa thread
Obviously disappointed but they are starting to look like the makings of a decent team, at least they now seem like a football side and not a claret-and-blue panic button. Benteke was unlucky, Delph continues to impress, Okore looks promising.

good 3 - 0 win in league cup ,unfortunatly spurs next opponent . great goal by delph whom along with lowton being mentioned with an England call up . benteke 4th goal of the season and counting . Lambert says he might still bring in players but too be honest i dont know where he needs them

Re: aston villa thread
Benteke will be in top 3 goalscorers this season(all competitions).
Delph has shown the form we knew he had, last season, and started well this one to.
Still think we need another midfielder.
I wonder how much game time Albrighton and Gardner will get this season.
Hopefully we can get rid of Given, Ireland, Hutton & Bannan before the window closes.

kozak is a strange signing . 7m a lot for player who might only be on bench . it reeks of benteke replacement but went through anyway even tho Christian didnt leave .

Was a good game.
A great occasion.
Agbonlahor played well when he came on, even for a charity match.
Lambert played.
Good to see some old faces from both teams.

Heard at the game yesterday that Villa/Celtic will be on at Villa Park either in midweek early next year or next Summer, think it's dependent on Celtic possibly still being in Europe
Midweek game sounds tastey to be honest, Villa Park under the lights with about 10k Celtic fans and a packed Villa Park

I thought originally they were going to have a pre season game at Celtic and one at Villa.
Would only be right to have a game between the 2 teams at VP aswell.
Midweek is good
A pre season game would be just as good.

Am going saturday.
Hopefully get the win, feel it will be a hard fought win.
Saw he scored.
If does make a few sub appearances, than feel a bit sorry for Helenius.
Although at £7m, am sure Kozlak would be ahead of Helenius.
Like to see Westwood or Delph start scoring, cant always be relying on the big man.

What makes it worse is I've have a £5 per game bet with a Geordie mate and I seem to be giving him a tenner a year to go with the frustration of losing to them. Think I'll concentrate on hating Newcastle while the rags are in the lower divisions.

Was there saturday, with a Newcastle & Leicester fan.
Pretty poor tbh.
Early days, but again seem to be playing better away from home.
Some good possession, but no real end product.
Okore looked poor sat, again early days for him.
Shame he's out for a long time now.
Need to be winning home games against teams outside top 4.

Okore out for the season.
Shame. Needed time to settle in.
So basically our defence is the same as last season, with the addition of Luna.
A big positive for me so far, is how well Delph has started. Just needs to calm down, not get these silly yellow cards.
Norwich away tomorrow, was a good ground for us last season.
Another tight game. Need to get the win.
Even though its very early, dont want to be sitting in the bottom 3.
Could well be another struggle this season. Lets hope not though.
Still think we missed the boat on another midfielder.
Love to see Gary Gardner get a run out.
Thought he was playing ok, till he got the injury.
