Olympics Day 11
First topic message reminder :
Yesterday our showjumpers were golden. Also, King Kenny ruled the track. Now it's over to Sir Chris, Princess Laura and can Queen Victoria have a victorious curtain call on her cycling career?
Also, brothers Brownlee go for Triathlon glory and our Dressage team are in action, going for Gold!
If all goes right, today's the day we beat Beijing and do the 20.

To be fair its mainly some people in France having a pop, we should remind them about Gregory Bauge avoiding drug testing. What will they say then?

At 19:00, the GB men's hockey team play Spain in the final group game. GB only need to avoid defeat and they're through to the Semi-Finals.

Spain played very well against Argentina last night. Won't be a gimme. Why are they so good at passing sports?

Re: Olympics Day 11
Josiah....Couldn't have put it better myself. Every nation has a sport which they excel in or a multi-tude.. (unless your Australia of course )
Jamaica - Sprinting
China - Table Tennis, Badminton, Diving,
UK - Cycling, Sailing
There is absolutely nothing dodgy going on...this happened 4 years ago and we are reaping the benefits of the huge upheaval and change in UK Cycling which occured 12 years ago...
What we do so well in Cycling is ensure all of the athletes peak at exactly the right moment...we were luke warm in the World Champ's which is why other countries had a look in...saved the best for when it mattered...(perhaps we should get the Cycling coaches over to the Olympic Stadium for our Track & Field Athletes )

Don't forget rowing, Owen!
Did Queen Vic upset one of the judges before the games or something? Delighted for Sir Chris Hoy, if he can't inspire a generation then there is no hope.

Re: Olympics Day 11
To be honest English...
Not just Sir Chris...but these whole 2 weeks. The whole next generation should feel inspired and im sure they will....I really really hope they do...
BUT...
More importantly than that perhaps is that as a nation the Goverment need to now ensure that as many possibilities are put in place for this 'inspired generation'...it's all well and good having hundred of thousands of kids wanting to go out and be the next Hoy, Pendleton, Grainger, Ennis etc etc but unless their are vast vast changes in terms of the facilities on offer for kids and the way we go about Physical Education delivery within schools (this should go back to being compulsory and should be undertaken 3 hours a week)...then it won't make a blind bit of difference.
Sport England....Goverment...Local Authority's all need to now come together and ensure they are doing everything in their power to stick to their remit of this games which was to 'leave a lasting legacy'...the athletes have done their job as the nation is now well and truly inspired!!

Cmon Crimey. Colin Jackson was 0.01 second from guessing the 100 metre winning time. Surely that eclipses all the guff punditing he does?

0.1 at this stage is not a big deal. The final was always going to be between 9.63ish to 9.80 not much better or worse than that.

Re: Olympics Day 11
Nick Willis looks in the right frame of mind to become our forth 1500 meter gold medalist after Lovelôck, Snell and John Walker.
According to Walker just now Willis will have mapped this race in his mind every day, every traing run of the last four years and if he's in front with 300 to go will win being the faster sprinter in the field.
Good luck Nick. Silver through disqualification at Beijing. Let's go one better.

Go the Commonwealth! If we can beat America with Commonwealth Golds, is that a "moral victory"?

Re: Olympics Day 11
So both teams Hockey teams are through to the semi final stage....though I doubt either will medal to be honest..
Can Grabarz cling on for a Bronze...done everything he could of really so in the hand of the gods as they say..he is only 24 so again the potential is their for him to progress and come good in the coming years.

Bronze medal....and actually very nice to see that reaction. He looks disappointed to have had to rely on failed jump's to medal.
I have to say the one thing I have liked about some of the youngsters we have taken is the attitude they have shown when not accomplishing what they set out to do. It is good to the determination they have and it will stand them in good stead going forward.

Is this some cunning ploy by british banks to enable them to smuggle gold out without the americans getting all precious about it?

Do we pay for them? Its a bit daft since the gold we are giving to china is worth far more than the paper money we keep borrowing off them

yeah i think we must pay for them!
them medals are proper massive as well- must be worth bundles just in weight let alone as an olympic medal

Re: Olympics Day 11
Yeh didnt you know? its only 5 percent gold and the rest is silver. It would only cost a couple mill to make em genuine but it seems thats too expensive in an event which cost roughly 12 billion
Re: Olympics Day 11
yeah well its sad but if i was kp id want the 6 mill on offfer(for 9 weeks work over the next 3 years) and if i was the ecb i wouldnt let him pick and choose.
Sad times for KP and england- but maybe time to move on.
Time to review the central contracts or the international calender- something needs to change. Either admit that india does it best(t20) and stop international cricket for that spell, pay our contracted players much more, or allow more leverage(which i am not willing to accept in fairness - it will set a bad precendent)

Re: Olympics Day 11
Before anyone gets too excited the "gold" medals aren't solid gold. I think they look a bit tacky like cadbury's chocolate ones.
I've preferred previous years smaller ones.
Not a choice I'm stuck with mind you.
Ha ha, lardy German Discus dude jumping the hurdles.

Yes of course, just that i think its one expense most would not have begrudged (unlike g4s) and they ought to have done it.
