Olympics Day 11
First topic message reminder :
Yesterday our showjumpers were golden. Also, King Kenny ruled the track. Now it's over to Sir Chris, Princess Laura and can Queen Victoria have a victorious curtain call on her cycling career?
Also, brothers Brownlee go for Triathlon glory and our Dressage team are in action, going for Gold!
If all goes right, today's the day we beat Beijing and do the 20.

One of his parents is French, hence the name and why he can speak French and why he shouldn't be allowed to ref their matches. But he does and is obscenely biaised.

Re: Olympics Day 11
By her own admission the TT is not Hammers favourite event, we'll see...alfie wrote:Well very tight in the Omnium ...Trott two points behind Hammer with the TT to come .
Trott will probably win the TT , so if Hammer were to be third or worse it would be Gold for Laura.
Of course you can't be sure in advance , but at the World champs the TT went to Trott , with Hammer fourth...

Re: Olympics Day 11
I imagine that Trott is a super hot favourite for that gold now. Hopefully Clara Sanchez will be up for it as she's one that could beat Hammer, as could Edmondson.
Although that's relying on the fact that Trott has to beat them too (although given the fact she beat Sanchez, a specialist sprinter, in the flying lap, I can't see too far past Laura for this one.)

Don't think it's nailed on, if Trott wins it (overall that is) I think it'll be by a whisker - i.e. a countback.

Re: Olympics Day 11
But the fact that if she draws with Hammer, Trott wins, is the factor that swings it massively into her favour.
It's not like boxing where countback could favour either participant - Trott may as well have an extra point.
I can't see Hammer beating a motivated Edmondson and I can't see Edmondson beating Trott - that means Trott wins.

Re: Olympics Day 11
The problem for Trott is that the result isn't entirely down to her performance - even if she wins the 500m, Hammer coming 2nd would be enough to claim gold.

That's what I mean. Don't see her winning 'outright' as such but on the countback.

I've read that the tiebreaker is the addition of the three timed events (Hugh Porter and this tweet says this https://twitter.com/CyclingCanada/statuses/232793440147099648). Is that combined time or combined position though?

Pretty decent time from Clara Sanchez there, not sure it'll be good enough to edge Hammer out tho.....

Oooh dear, good point. I was under the impression it went on number of wins.
In that case she probably needs another person between her and Hammer in order to win because Hammer has about a second on her from the IP.

Just been confirmed that it's combined time, at the moment Sarah Hammer is .7 of a second ahead.

Re: Olympics Day 11
So Hammer has about exactly 1 second from the IP and Trott has 0.3 from the flying lap. Which means that if Trott beats Hammer by two places, she needs to be 0.7 or more ahead of her.
At the World's last year, Trott won the IP and was about 1 full second ahead in this event.

I can't see anybody beating Hammer, and I can't see Trott beating Hammer by the required time. Hope I'm wrong but Hammer looks on fire

Yeah, I'm sure if you put a random horse without a rider in a field they'd be able to do it...

Re: Olympics Day 11
Hmm...I had been sure it was on positions , but glad you chaps found out that they are using combined times...wonder if this is new ? Never mind , it is what it is and so if they are tied on points I guess Laura would need an improbable time gap to win...better hope there are two riders between them.

Edmonson goes quicker than Sanchez. Need Trott to go quickly and win, but Hammer will have to go well to beat that

Trott justs needs to go faster, Hammer isn't going to go quicker than Edmondson or Sanchez. She'll end up in 4th place in this event.

So Laura Trott is now a double Gold , along with Kenny.
Can Vicky and Sir Chris do the same now ?
Incidentally , Trott's time was fast enough that she would have still won on count back if Hammer had come third . How could anyone have doubted her

Don't think I ever did.
Never in doubt really, particularly after the scratch.
