Olympics Day 11
First topic message reminder :
Yesterday our showjumpers were golden. Also, King Kenny ruled the track. Now it's over to Sir Chris, Princess Laura and can Queen Victoria have a victorious curtain call on her cycling career?
Also, brothers Brownlee go for Triathlon glory and our Dressage team are in action, going for Gold!
If all goes right, today's the day we beat Beijing and do the 20.

Re: Olympics Day 11
Yes ...she drifted above the red line. Bit unlucky as Meares moved in on her earlier in the sprint , but didn't actually touch her ...then she just put her wheel above the line for a moment , which was fatal...
The commissar strikes again ! He won't be on Vicky's Christmas card list
Still best of three...

Re: Olympics Day 11
I don't understand how Meares can get away with elbowing Pendleton, and coming down on Pendleton, and then Vicky gets penalised for just going outside to line for a smidgen of a second

Re: Olympics Day 11
'fraud that's the rules , Olly ...Meares always pushes the rules to the limit , and sometimes over , but in this case she didn't actually touch Vicky or impede her , and it was Vicky who moved fractionally over that line in the end. It made no difference , but they are dynamite on that rule in sprints...
Keep the faith ...an angry Vicky is dangerous , watch out for the next race...

Really surprised by that.
Pendleton has looked so good in this Olympics.
Bet she wished she'd gone for it in that one when she had the chance.

Victoria isnt really great at that event anyway... she sprints far too early. Seems content with what shes won already anyway. Mears is obnoxious.

Well that one was fair and square , Meares takes the gold ...
Pity the first race was marred by the relegation , but fair play to Anna , she won that with pure speed
I am surprised ,but not totally shocked , Meares has been strong in this event these two days.

Not great as in 6 times World Champion and Olympic gold and silver. Pretty awful.

Well done Meares, but felt Vicky missed her opportunity there. She had the jump, it was a long one, but if she had committed to it I think she would have won the last race, and then who knows

maybe she was great in that event when she was younger. Its funny how often you highlight my comments. Obsessed?djlovesyou wrote:Josiah Maiestas wrote:Victoria isnt really great at that event anyway... she sprints far too early. Seems content with what shes won already anyway. Mears is obnoxious.

She's World Champion from this year. She beat Meares. The only years that she lost since 2005 were 06 and 11.
Pretty consistent stuff.

Well done Anna Meares, silver will do. Vicky is still the 2nd best female sprinter in the world, how is she not that great?! That's a really harsh yardstick if only the best at something in the entire world qualifies any more highly than "not really great". Get some kind of context in comments like that...

Re: Olympics Day 11
Gold for Trott, did fantastically well in the Time Trial.
Gold for Sir Chris Hoy, the King of Track Cycling.
Silver for Victoria, very unlucky with the DQ.
That ends the Track Cycling, 7 Golds for GB on the track I believe!

Re: Olympics Day 11
Reckon picking Hoy for Keirin and Kenny for sprint turned out very well , eh ?
Left Sir Chris with fresher legs for this which might have helped in that great finish.
So seven gold , silver and bronze from 10 races in the velodrome ( and would have been a gold or silver in the other event if not for a technical DQ ) ...what was that about not being able to match the Beijing haul under the new rules
Brailsford's boys and girls have given a truly amazing performance

Re: Olympics Day 11
so I hear the rest of the world is having a pop at our success in the velodrome. Saying our equipment is to good- yet they could have bought our bikes if they wanted. To be honest we shouldnt have ever put them on sale anyway- building bikes and clothing to go as quick as possible is part of the sport and a lot of work is required- Other countries need to look at how we coach and our engineering if they want to achieve- what aload of sour grapes

We're just really good at Cycling because we've put a lot of money, time and effort into it. Let the haters hate. I wonder if they're questioning USA winning 16 Golds in the pool?

maybe we should moan about China winning every diving, table tennis, badminton events then. Looking for excuses to attack Britain cause of jealousy.
