The Hillsborough Memorial Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Liverpool
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Liverpool in honour of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster, who may finally receive justice.
We are also mourning the sudden loss of Nevin Spence, his father Noel and brother Graeme, who died tragically at their farm in Hillsborough, Co. Down yesterday.
We offer our thoughts and deepest sympathies to his sisters Emma (who remains in a stable condition in hospital), Laura, their mother Essie, family and all friends and fans of the Ulster Rugby community.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Andy Murray, Craig Newby and Delme Thomas.

I think Duncan Williams is an incompetant clown who has lived off a decent game he had three years ago and finally made it to be a backup at the age of 27. He has also benefited from positive discrimination due to Peter Stringers advancing years. Williams manages to combine the ball in hand sniping runs and physicality of Peter Stringer with the game management of Tomas O'Leary. He will be replaced by Cathal Sheridan before long.

He is more rounded than the other two who are fairly 1 dimensional.
However theres nothing wrong with being 1 dimensional.

Re: The Hillsborough Memorial Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Liverpool
In all seriousness I've already seen a real change in Munster and Ulsters style of play and the New Zealand influence showing through.
I think some players who were in favour last season will find themselves out of favour and vice versa. This will be particulaly noticible at 9 and 7 I think. Quick passing 9s and poaching/link man type 7s will be the winners.
I'm not naming names but I suspect that there will be a bit of pressure applied from the IRFU as a few of their favourite sons I think won't be favoured by their new coaches.

I think in a scrum-half there is. Think of any truly great scrum-half and they have a good variety to their game between passing, kicking, game management and running. Stringer, Williams and Murray don't have all those skills at that level.
But being able to carry with physicality from 9 is a relatively new demand in the position; there is room for a different kind of 9 now at the top level and Murray is the closest to that of the three. He's probably the best. Didn't do well on Friday though.

No but in fairness, you come off the bench to play your first match in a new system, away in Ravenhill when most players have got 6-7 matches under their belt.
There are few players who would give an instant impact.
Lets judge when he has a few matches under his belt.

Well done Rava. I see some of the younger players are now tweeting their goodbyes to Nevin; thats good I suppose, it'll have hit them hardest of all the Ulster Rugby fraternity. I hope that after the memorial on Sunday all concerned can begin to get some closure.
It's sad that once we move on to hardest times for the family will be ahead.
On rugby, this echoes pretty much exactly what Stag was saying at the time regarding ROG and Keatley;

I am still furious about it Notch.
ROG is a disease that needs curing within Munster Rugby.

To be honest, I wish he would retire from Ireland duty in a similar way Humphreys did to make room for ROG. He remains a shadow hanging over a younger generation of Irish 10s we now need to develop for the future.

I'm sure Penney knows he needs a long-term successor and he will have been impressed with Hanrahan and Keatley. I still believe ROG has something to offer, but he'd have more to offer if he was willing to play the aging mentor instead of wanting to be the star.

Ah you misunderstand Sin E. It is not that he loves O'Gara but rather than he hates Sexton.

This is where Tindall has come into his own at Glos, he's not trying to start every game but he's there as the old head for knowledge and to close out matches if needed.

Classy stuff there from Rava and the Regs.
Sin E is in his element on the Rory McIlroy thread alright. Vintage stuff from the great man .
Rog is still a good player but for me hes slipping away from provincial standard, let along International level. How he can talk about the Lions is beyond me. He's lucky to be starting for Munster.

He is NOT starting for Munster. He has not started a game for Munster in months*
*mainly due to no rugby in June and July and he was resting in August and September.

Refer to earlier post ". . . . .its only the Dragons"
We also have Peter Stringer and Marcus Horan starting.
Re: The Hillsborough Memorial Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Liverpool
Stranger and Horan too? It's like one of those sad reunion tours. Must feel like the rugby equivalent of buying a ticket for Bananarama or Art Garfunkel.

That was always Horans secret . . . looking good. Sit on the wing, score a try every few matches, get a reputation as a mobile prop (when your only being compared to John Hayes).
Re: The Hillsborough Memorial Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Liverpool
John Hayes was very mobile, as long as it involved going backwards or popping up

I have just worked out that tomorrow, due to taking kids to school, then to various clubs and activities, and dropping the wife to work, I will drive 154 miles and spend 4 hours and 50 minutes in my car, yet never actually be more than 15 miles away from my house at any point in time!

Pete, me ol’ mucker. Sit down, pour yourself a beverage of your choice
I really don’t know what is sadder. The fact you’ll drive 154 miles and be in the car for 4 hrs 50, or the fact you worked it out

Afternoon Everyone. Hope everyone is well and having a good day.
RAVA - thanks for signing the book of condolence of behalf of everyone. I did say earlier this week that I'm sure there's loads of supporters from all over who'd sign it if they could.
Next Friday Ulster are coming here to Cardiff. I know it doesn't mean much, but that day I'm going to wear my black & white Ireland shirt to work and to the match afterwards.
Here's something completely useless I learnt at work today: if you mime "elephant juice" at someone else you look like you're saying "I love you". We have some odd convos in work sometimes...

Hello all. Got back from a fee days in Manchester earlier today. Met lots of wonderful people and had some incredible conversations.
My parents arrived into Holyhead half an hour ago. Should be here in an hour and a half. I really can't wait to see them. Love it when they come over to visit.
