The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Chris Paterson, Steve Thompson and Jonny Wilkinson above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Evening Gibbo
I've had a lovely Christmas thanks, just wish my Dad's back would get better, he's in a heck of a lot of pain with it
Hope you've had a great time with your family

He's seeing someone again on the 3rd of Jan, but he's had such trouble with his back before he's a bit nervous about getting anyone to look at it. Just really hope it's not disk trouble. Cheers for the offer though, if this guy he goes to see in Jan doesn't work, we might well need the number!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
What I have is degenerating discs, but the pain causes you to change posture/behaviour which puts strain on the back muscles causing a vicious circle. A tidy Physio will get him doing core exercises and stretches which at least keep the muscles right and which mitigate rather than exacerbate the pain. The other options are going under the knife or just giving in and I don't fancy either!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Oh he's been doing those sorts of exercises for years. He had a disk removed I think before I was born (think it had crumbled or something), he's got a massive scar on the base of his spine so he's always been really careful with looking after his back. He just got out of the car and something's gone. Think he's hoping it's just a trapped nerve, seems like it might be, coz most the pain he's getting is when he's walking and it shoots down his leg. Not good anyways!
And nope neither of those other options for you sound nice! Stupid backs.

Morning folks.
Seriously fun night in my local yesterday. I did not want to come to work, but I made it.
What's everyone doing for New Year?
I haven't a clue what I'll do yet.

Am off to a friends house for our annual big party, then New Years Day we've got all the family over for my mam's birthday, so should be a good weekend for me anyways.

I'm rarely out at the turn of the New Year. I'll be out for a while, but my local pub gets invaded with 'once a year eejits' and I find that I've had enough of it by 10pm.

I'm going to a party/gig on New Years Eve Eve (er, tomorrow night) after working 9.30-5 and going to the Munster game and then back in work again at 9.30 on New Years Day. I think after that I'll just give New Years a miss given I'll be knackered and out the previous night.

Just been reading an article about how Lancaster is really keen to get Ben Morgan playing for England. Morgan's going to have to make a very tough decision in a couple of weeks, that's for sure.

Ah Georgie, bless him. He was trying so hard on Monday and it wasn't quite clicking for him. It'll come though, he's still got so much to learn though playing rugby, tis frightening really how good he might become.

Thats about the height of it. Parties on New Years Eve are great. Going out to a pub/club/other overpriced event? Miss a lot more than hit.
I've only had one really good New Years out on the town.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
They always have a new theme every NYE here. It's very OTT. I heard there is going to be "Happy New Year" written in pyrotechnics in 7 different languages... including the local Gadigal language and Russian. I'm guessing the others will be greek, italian, mandarin, vietnamese & japanese??
The theme for Sydney New Year's Eve 2011 was revealed on the 4th of November as "Time To Dream". Fireworks Director Fortunato Foti, has stated this years show will feature new pyrotechnic effects such as, "criss-cross" shells that create a lattice effect, "Quadrant" shells that will burst into four different colours of the nye "endless rainbow" logo. Creative Director Marc Newson, has revealed "The rainbow includes violet to represent community, peace, social stability and connectedness; blue to symbolise the harbour, sky and future aspirations; green for the environment, nurturing and growing; and yellow, which epitomises optimism, happiness and a sunny attitude.". The shows budget will increase from $5 million to $6.3 million, once again utilising 7000 kilograms of explosives.
So, another $6.3 million up in smoke.
I'm off to a party nearby (actually the house was designed by me so will be good to see it all lit up at night with the pool, etc) Laid back friends so it will be low key -hopefully. I'll be home before 2am I'd say.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The 'pub' NYE died a death with the Millennium and the hyper prices pubs wanted to charge.
Basically people said "shove it, we'll do our own thing", and have continued to do ever since. If local pubs want to get back in on the act it is simple. Give your regulars a free ticket, and entry is by ticket only. Note - this would probably not be workable in city/town centres.
And it is obviously based on my personal experiences where I live.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yes, we also have this system of permits which means you can't just roll up to a foreshore picnic ground. The roads are blocked and people get there almost a day before on foot and 'camp out.' Pubs and restaurants... forget it. Overpriced and overcrowded.
One year we got stuck in the city unable to get a taxi back home. About 1,000 others on the same street trying to do the same thing - so we just walked home. Across the bridge (2km) then about 3km uphill... plus another 2km. It was also very warm the next day... so it was like a workout in the early hours of NY Day. It was a huge task when you've had a few and recovering from a broken leg. (I slept for about a 18 hours non stop afterwards.)
Had a little bonus today. My 6-pack of crumpets - had 7! The machine must have been distracted or something... Nice little surprise it was!

100% agree with that. Pre 2000, we used to go around the pubs and meet on Ammanford square to see in the New Year. No tickets, no overpricing, just the usuals in the pubs plus those home for the holidays. Lovely. 2000 wrecked it all.
Anyhow back from Court after a couple of cracking results. Why do people with " little princess on board " stickers drive like complete Kumquats?

OK folks, listen up. As Premier Partners in the Heineken Cup my company provides free tickets to staff on an open draw basis. I can apply for a pair of tickets (one pair per match only) for each of the following round 5 & 6 games: -
Round 5
Friday 13 January
20:00 Ospreys v Benetton Treviso
------------------
Saturday 14 January
13:30 Scarlets v Northampton Saints
15:40 London Irish v Cardiff Blues
18:00 Harlequins v Gloucester
-------------------
Sunday 15 January
12:45 Glasgow Warriors v Leinster
15:00 Saracens v Biarritz
----------------------
Round 6
Friday 20 January
20:00 Gloucester v Toulouse
-----------------------
Saturday 21 January
13:30 Bath v Glasgow
15:40 Leicester Tigers v Aironi
18:00 Northampton Saints v Munster (stadium:mk)
-------------------------
Sunday 22 January
15:15 Cardiff Blues v Racing Metro
15:15 Edinburgh v London Irish
PM me if you want me to apply for tickets, but bear in mind that it will look a bit odd if I apply for tickets for different games on the same day. There is no guarantee that I will
get tickets for any match.
Cheers.

New Years out in Mt Maunganui was great a couple of times in my early 20s - good bands, great beach. These days
One year at university I agreed to work security at the outdoor concert the Chch Council put on in Cathedral Square (getting paid triple time spoke loudly). On the down side I had to walk 6km home at 2am once we'd finished packing up the stage etc, as the cab queue was over an hour long. On the plus side, I got to spend all night guarding the bands' dancers' changing tent

Scarlets team v Dragons: 15 Newton, 14 Iongi, 13 Warren, 12 Maule (c), 11 Fenby, 10 Jones, 9 Williams, 1 John, 2 Owens, 3 Manu, 4 Timani, 5 Day, 6 Turnbull, 7 Edwards, 8 Murphy, 16 Phillips, 17 I Thomas, 18 P Edwards, 19 Reed, 20 Pugh, 21 G Davies, 22 Thomas, 23 D Evans
The return of Turnbull!
and the lovely Iestyn is on the bench, really hope he's fully better, he's been very poorly by all accounts.
Bit of a risk playing Day as well after the knock he took just before HT on Monday. Still if he plays like he did for the first half, he'll have a cracker of a game.

And this explains why Tav misses out again (from the Scarlets' site): Tavis Knoyle (scrum-half) who has an ongoing shoulder issue and has been advised by medics that he will require an operation to be undertaken in the early part of the new year to strengthen and stabilise his shoulder joint. Knoyle will be out of competitive action for a minimum of three months.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I found some of the tipping difficult this week. You think the Scarlets will still have enough to beat the Dragons away this time, dreamer?
I went Scarlets, Munster, BT, Leinster, Warriors, Blues.
The only one I feel really confident about is the Leinster-Connacht clash... the others will be tight ones I feel. Should have backed Ulster too. I've no idea about the Italian return leg. I've gone for a turn-around result at home for Treviso but no facts to justify... except it's a revenge situation.
