Week 2 discussion thread
First topic message reminder :
Week 2 kicks off with the oldest rivalry in pro-football as the buoyant Bears visiting the 'panicking' Packers at Lambeau Field in what surely is the game of the weekend?
Chicago look like an attacking force to be reckoned with the running power of Forte and Bush plus the passing game of Cutler, Marshall and Jeffery. The Packers struggled against the 49ers defence last weekend but will face a different proposition tonight. Bears' QB Cutler has already said 'good luck' to the Packers DBs emphasizing the Bears confindence ath the start of the season.
It wouldn't surprise me to see the 2011 Super Bowl winning to find themselves 0-2 after two home games this season.

Well yeah, it is kinda funny the Pats kicker would miss. A miss is rarer than hen's teeth. When I heard fumble, I thought that was that......

Eagles D gets some credit now? Shut down the Ravens in the 2nd half.
Offensively, we actually moved the ball pretty well all game, some stupid turnovers kept the Ravens in it

Yep. You nailed it on the head. Defence held well in the second half and the worst part for the Eagles was silly turnovers committed.

Where the flip did our defense go against Miami in te second half. We couldn't stop anything. Absolute disgrace considering our defense was vastly improved, especially against the run against San Diego
On the Raiders Facebook page CP3 is getting torn apart, how it's his fault exactly I don't know. 380 yards passing, if anything it's Knapps play calling that should be put under the microscope, wasn't good enough first time round so why have we brought him back

Have to agree. The defense fell apart after half time and there was no way back. Palmer did ok, and he had no help on the ground at all.
One of the most frustrating halves I will ever watch.

Just looking at one of my fantasy teams my RBs were Forte, McCoy & Peterson (flex), they got 28.90 points combined. On the bench I had Trent Richardson 26.60 points.

What do people think of the Redskins opening two games? RG3 is looking good but they are giving away points too. Will they be able to produce against more defensive sides than the Saints and the Rams.

Haha! We've got a better QB than before but the Redskins curse still means that we will find a way to lose and it still means that we will raise everyone's hopes by winning the games we shouldn't only to then lose the ones that we should.
Jim Haslett - Please can we have our old defense back? You know, that one that was good and stopped people scoring and stuff? I liked that one.
Josh Morgan - I don't like you very much. In fact, you're my least favourite player on the team right now..... and that says a lot given that MeAngelo Hall plays for us! I hope the Shanahans have you doing 2000 press-ups every morning this week while London Fletcher and RG3 sit on your back!

Well, we had a 3rd and 8 at the Rams 36 yard line with just over a minute to go. Griffin makes a 7 yard completion to Morgan to obviously set up either a very makeable 4th down or a 46 yard fieldgoal...... until Morgan throws the ball at Cortland Finnegan to draw an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and turns it into a near impossible 4th and 16 or even more impossible 61 yard fieldgoal attempt. There's nothing in Billy Cundiff's body of work to date to suggest that he was going to be anything other than wide right and very short on that monster attempt.
Stupid Josh Morgan. He says he'll learn from it but, sorry, shouldn't you be learning these things in high school? If you're in your 3rd year in the NFL and still trying to learn to keep your cool when someone provokes you then I'd argue that it's too late for you and that you maybe need to be spending most of your time warming on the bench and certainly not finding yourself getting on the field in the game's crucial moments.
Stupid Josh Morgan

Ah come on now GSC, who had us pegged as sleepers? There was plenty of over the top chat about RG3 last week but I didn't read anyone saying that we were going to win the division or make the playoffs. You certainly wouldn't have found any Redskins fans saying that - we've had hopes raised and dashed too many times before to start believing that we're headed for anything better than a 6-10 to 8-8 season.

Re: Week 2 discussion thread
Just woke up after the 49ers game. Was really impressed with the performance again. Alex Smith is really turning into a top ten qb based on his play both this season and in the run in last season. To convert three key third downs in arow with pressure in your face is not easy but he did it with a bloody nose and drops. Gore and Hunter got plenty of carries too and the balance between run and pass was nice. Detroit's o-line did good, but the 49ers only rushed three a lot of the time so their secondary could be more stacked against Johnson and co. I want to see how dangerous we could be if we actually brought a lot more players rushing the qb, Vic Fangio is a blitz specialist but not seen it yet, largely because haven't had to though

Also Number-25 didnt the Rams miss a field goal on the half, but Shanahan had called a time out to ice him, then it was retaken and he they scored. You lost by 3 didnt you?

Ryans does look pretty good but I have to give that honour to NaVorro Bowman right now , he has 7 more tackles and has went up against two great offfenses where he has had to cover receivers, who else can do that from the mlb position very well other than Willis? And now Willis will be put on the sidelines when the niners go nickel, but Bowman stays

Willis and Bowman are the best MLBs in the league right now and it isn't even a discussion.niner wrote:Ryans does look pretty good but I have to give that honour to NaVorro Bowman right now , he has 7 more tackles and has went up against two great offfenses where he has had to cover receivers, who else can do that from the mlb position very well other than Willis? I've watched SF twice this season and that defense is mean. The way they matched up with Calvin Johnson was a thing of beauty. Help over the top to take away anything deep and then man under with Bowman and Willis tracking him across the middle when the Lions moved Johnson inside. Detroit were running picks by the end just to get him receptions.

Re: Week 2 discussion thread
The pass rush is the only thing that is lacking and although that worries me a little, I can't help but think it was because they were geared towards stopping prolific passing attacks the first two weeks, so needed to cover well rather than send too many guys at the qb. I think against Ponder and Minnesota nxt week, there will be more blitz packages and sacks. The secondary has seriously stepped up from last year. It was really good then but they are covering some of the best players easily. People said the cb's and safeties were middle of the pack last year but they weren't. It's just that if teams are going to throw the ball 40 plus times because they can't run on you , they are going to get some completions, especially when most teams are playing catch up so need to air it out

Re: Week 2 discussion thread
Was in the NFL in London at Marylebone Station. Awesome atmosphere. They show the Sky games plus 4 at a time on Gamepass. Was with 20 other NYGiantsUK fan club members. There were at least a hundred people in there who support all sorts of teams.
At half time of the 6pm games the American guy, Ryan, who runs it says a few jokes with a mic on stage and got the whole place to shout abuse at us because of the half time score.
Great 4th quarter, David Wilson better be looking over his shoulder because Andre Brown will jump straight into the RB2 spot depending on how they perform in Carolina on Thursday.

Re: Week 2 discussion thread
I was chanting 'Ball security, ball security" when Ryan Williams steamed into the line and then I watched in dismay (not surprise) as the ball popped up into the air. I've been down this road so many times with the Cards and I figured our only chance was for Campbell to block the FG -- I was so mad at the Cards for playing and excellent game and then blowing it, I turned off the TV because I couldn't bear to watch. My friend called about the game and was going on what a great win it was.
Morgan should have known that Cortland Finnegan is an irritant -- that's his whole M.O. Getting that penalty at such a critical moment was just idiotic
Saints' D just has no pass rushers -- and that's a big part of what Spagnuolo does.

Yeah, that's probably our season in the can now. Our secondary is bad this year which is putting much more emphasis on our pass rush to help them out. Orakpo is our best pass rusher by far. Losing him will leave our dodgy secondary too exposed. Teams will throw the ball on us for fun now. Saw it last night with the Rams - Bradford had a career day. Doesn't matter what heroics RG3 comes up with now, teams will simply throw for one score more than us.

Its a big loss at LB, but our pass D talent isn't the big worry - its the insistence on sticking with zone D, when we have 2 good corners. We got toasted yesterday because, like Welker, Amendola is a great reciver against zone. He won't torch anyone, but he's got 360 degree radar when it comes to finding the gap in the zone. There will be more pressure on the DB's with less pressure coming from the front 5/7, but the scheme needs adjusting to either make the zone D effective, or more likely, run more man cover. If nothing else disguise the coverage. No offense to Bradford, but a blind dwarf could see the holes in our zone yesterday.
