First topic message reminder :

Of course there are shades of grey but ultimately nobody can be sent to jail for saying they would like to kiddy fiddle but won't as it's illegal and cannot include consent by definition.
They go to jail when they break the law by looking at images or worse acts. So what do you do, change the laws ? Having an open debate won't change the laws, it will still come down to the same thing.
So whether they are deemed evil by society or not is ultimately fairly irrelevant as far as I can see. The end game remains the same.

NBS

what i have read and heard is that scotland isnt a net contributer to the UK.

what salmond and his followers want everyone to believe is that the oil in scottish waters contributes more than the difference is.

However it has been proved by certain sources is that they use the top end oil valuations not what the oil was actually worth at the time, and they are predicting the future oil prices in a very positive light..

The facts are simple.. This is a very hard accounting issue to get perfect, but no credit rating agency is gonna give scotland a good credit rating based on oil resource because ot is so volitile!!

so if scotland became independant- there part of the UK debt is gonna increase significantly from day one due to an increase in the interest they need to pay!

Salmond is also basing the future debt cost on if scotland had the top rating as UK does at present!! this is clearly false!

Salmond is also basing scotlands independant financial position on what he feels should be scotlands assets and debts not what the rest of us in the uk value it as..

That's my area Incontinent. Apparently it was made by the biodegrading of lots of potato peels over millions of years.

Trouble is with Ireland that there isn't much off-shore infrastructure (pipe lines etc). So super expensive to get it out. At present, probably not enough value in it.

I love the breakfasts at the diners, crispy american bacon, fantastic. The whole place is like a film set, just dont waste too much time shopping is all Id say really.
Not sure if you can still do it but years ago I took a helecopter in from the airport, not as expensive as youd think. They were big old noisy things ex military I think and didnt do a tour but you got all the views, that was back in the day when I worked in travel and had a few contacts. Seeing the skyline from up above was brilliant.

I did the basketball at Madison Square Garden, if you are at a good hotel the concierge should be able to get tickets if there is a game on.
I saw the Knicks play Cleveland when Lebron James was playing for them, really fun atmosphere and they had dog show jumping at the interval. Really good fun....Super would hate it.

I think I'd take more out of the atmosphere than the game, although the over the top whooping that Yanks seem to be partial to might get irritating.

For all you might hate Yanks I have to say we sat next to some guys and they just start chatting to you. Recomended places to go, places to eat, explained some nuances of the game, couldnt have been friendlier.
You just dont get that in England where people think you are a lunatic if you start talking to them.

Digs, I've played golf with many many Yanks and to a man they have been absolutely tremendous people, far from disliking American's I'm actually very fond of them, trouble is in herd mentaility they get a bit excited and they (like many nationalities) have some rather annoying habits. Nothing major, just certain things, pointless whooping and hollering being a big one.

The point being Digs, that social background doesn't guarantee you'll be a good politician. There are good and bad from every spectrum of the class system, unless you are Mac and you don't believe there is a decent politician unless your name is Arthur Scargill.

Social background is going to have an effect on how you view the world. Its clear that fat Dave and chinless Osbourne have no concept of reality as to how the majority of people in this country live, they have had a silver spoon shoved up their never regions their whole lifes.
Apart from anythig else they are utterly cluless at what they are doing, the coalition is an utter shambles, Osbourne must be the stupidest chancellor in the history of Parliament and Cameron is just a joke. Completely out of his depth.

From the same point of view, if you elect a janitor from Slough as an MP/PM/Chancellor then they aren't going to know anything about business either.
Let's not forget that Labour, the saviour of the champagne socialist left, are just as priveledged as any of the coalition.

Dont agree at all. You can work your way up and get a rounded view on life, why would you bother if you know you will get gifted everything like Cameron. Plus he knows nothing baout business, again was gifted positions and he wasnt very good at them either. Never has to do anything on merit, thats the big problem.

So did Tony Blair work himself up or was he handed everything on a plate?

There seems to be an opinion that if you are rich, it makes you a buffoon and a bad person.
So as long as you aren't a Tory, didn't go to private school, then you're automatically a good MP/PM. Look at Milliband for proof of that being wrong. Tory's best weapon.

Blairs background is not remotely similar to Cameron or Osbourne Super. His father started out as a junior tax inspector and worked his way up, he wasnt a dyed in the wool toff.

Blair went to one of the toffiest schools in Scotland, anyway, the point is that being from a working class background, doesn't necessarily make you any better at being an MP/PM than someone from Eton.

He's a pathological liar, and takes the idea of politicians saying what you want to hear to a dangerous extreme. That's without taking the religious aspect into account - the fact that he posthumously converted his avowedly atheist father-in-law to mormonism should ring so many alarm bells. He can believe what he wants, but those beliefs should surely call into question his suitability to lead the world's largest economy and second(?) largest army?
