First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to "sleepy" Roswell New Mexico, take off point for the first ever supersonic free-fall this week.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Felix Baumgartner and Chris Budgen up on the wall.

If you and Mr. P were asked to have separate rooms, after having booked a double would you accept it?

They would not have had to use separate rooms, just separate beds.
Has happened actually.
In fact it happened to friends of ours on their honeymoon!
They didn't sue!
I don't see how they can be accused to discrimination on the grounds of sexual otientation when they have also declined to allow heterosexual couples share a double room.

I can't. It's moot as gay couples in this country can't get married, just civil partnerships. There is no direct equivalence between an unmarried straight couple and an unmarried gay couple and there won't be until there is a direct equivalence in law.

Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
Yeah, me too. It cuts both ways... well, it should.
I had pre-booked into a hotel in Hamburg from Oz but didn't realise until I got there that it was during the same time as a week long Gay Bikie Festival. First time I'd heard about it was when I checked in at the front desk.
The lady owner had a great personality and she was not hard on the eyes or ears at all (she was a real woman!... had lived in Cairns and liked Oz a lot) She was pretty cool and calmed me down with a few cold ones. Whenever the odd guest came in they had a good laugh when they heard of my unplanned situation... she gleefully told this to every guest who walked into the joint.
That was a first time experience for me but I was left alone and hardly saw any other guests. If I'd been refused to stay it would have created the hassle and dilemma for me of wheeling bloody luggage bags down those cobblestone streets for perhaps hundreds of meters trying to find somewhere else to stay in a completely unfamiliar city. F that!

Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
But the B&B owners objection was to the unmarried status of the potential guests. How is that discrimination on the basis of sexuality.
Surely if you want to sue anyone in this case it should have been the government for denying this couple the right to get married.
And I don't think they have been convicted of any crime. I thought they were sued and damages were awarded for "injury to feelings!"

If this had happened to me and my other half, I wouldn't have taken the B&B owners to court. I'd have asked for a refund and left it at that.

I just think the decision in this case is wrong in law as it was accepted that any unmarried couple would have been treated the same way.
Just doesn't seem logical.

Well why should they be committed of a crime? They didn't commit any.
What they've done is mildly discriminate against a gay couple and been forced to pay damages for it. It all seems fair enough.

Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
I saw a documentary about what the bible says about homosexuality before.
There’s a part in the old testament where god says something about a man lying with a man being an abomination. Basically, it’s in a passage where he’s handing down rules to some people who are trying to start a new society or trying to live through drought or famine or something, basically the folks he’s saying this to are in a bad way and he’s giving them advice on how to survive, god goes on to say that placing 2 seeds in the same hole in the ground is also an abomination and generally being wasteful is an abomination. So basically, in the context the word is used in, it means that it’s not going to help a society that living day to day and trying to survive. And the word “abomination” was obviously added in when it was translated to English.

Totally concur Bikkies. The point is that the B&B owners feel they were not treating couple any differently than they would have treated any other unmarried couple and the judge accepted that as true.
The issue was that the men weren't married to each other, not who that they were both men.
Just seemed the wrong fight for the court to pick is all.
Anyway, what have you Leinster ones done with Ed O'Donaghue?

Cheers boys. I'm probably more run down through work atm. This place used to be great about 2-3 years ago, but no more.
A new Sales management team, largely brought in from a competitor we bought three years ago, are basically just bully boy number crunchers. No flair, no fun and everything must be counted –I feel like I should be flying the soviet flag over my desk.
However, it was announced yesterday that a restructure and the introduction of a new system will mean that the company are going to be inviting people to apply for redundancy packages.
For me, this is an extremely attractive proposition as there is a significant lump sum involved plus I will get something like 35/80 of my pension payable from April next year. And I won’t have any fecking beeetching about time off for the Lions tour next year.
I have honestly had enough of it here and the pressure and stress has started to affect me and the way I am interacting with people.
this all comes off.
Rant over.

He's probably a bartender in the London Walkabout at this point. Vanished from the face of the earth.
He had a big chance with Ulster and he blew it through off-pitch stuff. To think he was knocking on the door of the national team in 2010! Maybe he thought he'd made it then.

Ah, that’s easy. The UK rep for Trevor Brennan’s rugby tours.
All joking aside, I’m a salesman, that’s what I do; matching solutions to people’s wants and needs. The video Staggy and the TB crew put together for the Lions tour is a great piece of marketing….if you get it to the right market.

Not a bad team from us. Pull your fingers out, you useless dipshoites.
Sadly for me, I have to watch the game then whizz to Brize to fly towards Africa. Was looking forward to a slurp too.

Morning slackers
Submarine have a pint on me and come back for a chat.
Don't agree with the court ruling in that case, to me its just not right.

SUFTUM .
Gives you time to nip down to Tesco at Lisnagelvin and stock up on some for later.

Afternoon all.
One of our servers is down, so my deadline for this afternoon has gone out the window.
And Ozzy and Asbo have been mocking me (and Lurky) on Twitter . I ask you, what's wrong with picking a team to support in another competition, it keeps it interesting. Admittedly having more than one ...
However on the plus side the new partner launch we've been working on has smashed its targets for week 1, so the boss has given us all
And As, I have a bottle of Balvenie for the train
Roll on Exeter.
