Really looking forward to the Saxons and T14 final. Intrigued to see how 36 and Trinder go in the centre, could be my World Cup centre pairing on here!

I am considering Mason. But with Toulon not in HC he won't get wide scale publicity

Should be interesting Pete. There's a few who could break into the WC squad in Stevens, Ojo, Brown, Attwod. And some promising youngsters for post WC in Trinder, Benjamin, 36 etc.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Stevens will go to the WC, he seems better now than he was before the ban and I think playing 1 and 3 will really help him out. Martin Johnson isnt the sort to make wholesale changes, I think the only other ones that might end up on the plane to NZ could be Simpson and Attwood.

think Stevens will go to the WC.
Dont think Simpson will. Dont need him both Care and Youngs are better.
love watching Wales lose!!
i thought phillips was poor today. brew isnt that bad, at least he isnt massively overated like george north.

I'll stay out of the Botha debate as I'll get accused of bigging up my own players!

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
I'm interested in seeing whether Botha can step up, personally I wouldnt take him to the WC as I'm against the whole changing nationality thing when you are in your mid20's and only want to do it because you arent good enough to play for your own country.
I think he's done very well this season, but a lot of it comes down to the Sarries coaches, who I think are the best tacticians in the league by some distance - they very rarely get it wrong. At the same time I dont think he will ever get to that top level, he was dominated in every Heineken Cup game Sarries played when the level went up.
Think JSD has got a good chance of going for us.

JSD defence is a liability. Each time I see him in an England jersey Saxons/Ba's he does something stupid in defence. Visser tortured him on a number of occasions...imagine what Gear would do!

Not quite sure why we persist with Gaskell at 6, he really needs to put some beef on.

Depends on how Worcester get on mate. He's a real talent, similar with Jonny Arr who was England U20 number 9 when the got to the WC final.

Benjamin's looking very sharp, that's some strike record he had in the Champ....another Ashton on our hands?!?!

You can laugh...Chris nearly sold Ashton for 2m not too long ago. Then a 22yo Ashton had a similar scoring record in the Champ and now an England mainstay!

Gaskell is used at 6 because thats where he's been playing very well there for Sale.
Great at the breakdown. His longterm future in in the row but he needs to get onto a diet of chinese buffets, kfc and peanut butter sandwiches.
Benjamin won't be as good as Ashton but he does have a bright future

I must admit I didn't think that much of Ashton when I first seen him.
I don't like Gaskell at 6, not physical enough.

Lads bit of advise wanted. I've got quite a few decent England players now. What order would your rate these players in: Golding, Mears, Deacon, Guest, Worsley, Skinner, Wigglesworth, Hodgson, Allen, Waldouck, Monye, Varndell

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Benjamin's a decent player, but isnt as intelligent as Ashton - Benjamin is a finisher who stays on his wing, very similar to the Ojo mould. He's an out and out finisher, where as Ashton's game is solely built on his running lines and support running - all from rugby league, which makes him stand out.
I'm surprised a few more AP teams havent gone through league looking for wings and fullbacks, as they could have a very good impact - Sam Tompkins of Wigan would be a class union player, offloading and playmaking is just out of this world.

St Helens have some very talented youngsters.
Foster, Roby and Lomax would all do well in Union

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Pooly that is nonsense you pedal about jsd and his defence. His defence is generally immaculate. He saved a few tries in the bs ba game by coming out of the line. Gloucester also had one of the best defences in the league. When has he ever missed many one on one tackles for England ??
Guest- Guest
Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Well he hasn't played for the full side but the Ba's game and Italy Saxons game he cost us tries by slipping off one on one tackles.
Nick will back ne up we both commented about his poor defence.
Great attacker but liability in defence.

Twelvetrees and Trinder are looking briliant.
Samoa can keep Manu Tuilagi hahaha
I would have :
Hodgson, Mears, Deacon, Monye, Allen, Wigglesworth, Worsley, Guest, Waldouck, Golding, Skinner, Varndell
that order

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Pooly jsd has played at least ten times for the full England side. He has missed out due to injury quite a few times and had glandular fever. Remember watching his 6n debut against Italy when he scored. Also watched his international debut against nz. To be fair he did well but was not ready for international rugby hence the more bulkier and better defending jsd you see now

I know he's played for England lol. I do like him but don't think his defence is upto Int rugby, just my opinion. Sharples looking good since he came on.
I doubt your centre combo would come up against this kind of poor quality in this game Pete. USA are very very poor.

They can only beat whats in front of them Pooly, and perhaps part of why USA look so poor is that England have played very well.

No they're rubbish lol. Tonga might be a better test...it was similar against Italy A and then getting beat off the Wolfhounds. Pointless game really but they've went through the moves ok. Can't recall USA threatening the line.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Trinder is a real talent. It was hard selling him to you pete. The only problem is he finds it hard to bulk. We sent him to mosely to get national league experience and he came back better.
Only problem is that he is small for his size if you get what I mean. He often loses the ball in contact.
I feel he will be first choice for Us next year and offers more than molenaar. He will learn from tindall also.
Most of us glos fans have higher hopes for may. To be fair both can also play wing.
Give trinder a year or 2 and he could be really something. We have so many exciting players at glos. We have 3 England u20 sh's and 2 England u20's fh's
Bags of wings and centres. No bloody forwards though. Apparently the Italy a front rower we have signed is mustard watching out for him in the Earlier game when I watch it after this one. His name is christolini and they think he can take over from Castro.

How does crane manage to look average in a game like this. As an 8 these are the games you dream of. Crane is one of the worst players to ever get a full england cap. He has hands like pig jubblies to use a common west country phrase
Guest- Guest
Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Crane wasn't great, not really his type of game. Would have loved to have seen Waldroum play, he's got to go to the world cup as a different option to Easter surely!

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Both stnick
He is a very good AP player but not international class in my opinion. I also don't like this sudden finding of an English granny. No mention of this when he was playing in NZ, where he was clearly in his mind a bona fide 100% Kiwi. Now he's English though as it fits the bill for him right now.
Sorry, not for me.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Isnt the Churchill Cup designed to give teams like USA, Canada, Russia etc the opportunity to get more exposure to the better level of rugby?
It doesnt help when we are up against amateurs, but just look at the ages of some of the English players and how many are coming through the England age groups, think that the English set up is starting to bear some fruit now - Young, Sharples, Trinder, Clegg, Goode all came through the same age group I think.
Am really looking forward to the u20 WC now - think that its our best team, NZ will be very tough to beat but keep an eye out for Mako Vunipola, Joe Launchbury, Sam Jones, Elliot Daly and of course George Ford and Owen Farrell. It starts next Friday doesnt it?
Alex Goode for the WC anyone? Better option than Armitage now I think!
