The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the historical city of Rome, the owner Giiovanni, is a Canadian-Italian, and welcomes all after a great day of rugby.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Dane Coles, Aaron Jarvis, Samson Lee and Schalk Brits up on the wall. Erm, actually there is a second rule. No elephants, unless they're Effervescing - we can't be barring a Chiefs fan

Sorry Gobbo, if you apply that as a minimum standard for posting on here, v2 would not exist.

Good night for the provinces last night. Just saw Ulster's last try there as I went out before the end and it should never have been given. Bryn Cunningham said he is perfectly entitled to do that. Rubbish!

Tried it in Gatwick with Hughie and Kiwi last year. Have to agree with you but then anything with a name like that .....
I honestly nearly asked for my money back.
I ran a charity whisky (or so I thought) tasting at work a few months back, and a distributor donated the bottles**, including one of Red Stag whiskEy*. Utterly foul, and I haven't managed to give away what's left of it yet. Though it may well be ok if mixed with a lot of cola. So stick to the Marlborough wine Willy, it's good stuff.
Morning all. Man flu'd up, so quiet day ahead. Lovely and sunny out at least.
*if you Irish insist on using the Yank spelling you get to keep the comparison
** the rest of the stuff donated wasn't much better. I wound up buying a couple of nicer bottles so I could present with a straight face.

Morning all
Freezing cold day here, minus 1 outside and grass looks white. Loads to do indoors but if it warms up later I shall be heading to The Avenue to watch the London Irish amateur side take on Brixham in the National League 3 clash.
Good luck to everyone whose team is in action today.

Rodders,
Did you see the tackle by Lee Jones on Niall Annett about 3 mins from the end?
Oh, and I agree on the Gilroy thing too by the way.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
It was right at the end. The Match clock read 77 mins odd.
There was an attack down the touchline in front of the prom.
If you watch on the iplayer the tackle kind of disappears on the left side of the screen but you get to see it again when they show a replay from a different angle. They weren't showing the tackle by the way but you get to see it. It was a bit late and looked like a pretty bad "tip" to me.

I think what Felix Jones did is worse than a tip. Grabbing a players leg whilst he's in the air and lifting it so he falls flat on his face. I know it took dexterity and skill to pull off...and the other player was Tom James...but that's hardly the point...

So not a reflex action then. Is that what you're saying?
Seems like there's a lot of desparate defence going on, mixed with some dangerous, over-exuberant stuff.

You are correct mate, 9 from 9 and top of the league. Would be interesting if they go up and the pro side went down. They'd then only be one relegation/promotion each away from playing each other!

Totally agree, but Gilroy moves so fast no one saw him do it....
Awk Bejesus fellas, big bad Gilroy barely touched the backrower and fell down like there was a sniper in the stadium. Like I know its Northern Ireland here lads but still. I'd had more physical contact trying to get a beer from the beer tent at Ravenhill, where last time a kindly lady reached round to grab her purse and inadvertently cup my testicles. It's usually a two handed job so she must have been a big handed farming woman.
In other news, Laulala is a better 13 than Earls. The flat earth brigade, otherwise known as the Earls supporters club are still denying it. That said Munster showed how far behind they are Leinster and Ulster. Penny is doing a pretty good job though has to be said and I thought O'Donnell had a good match. The biggest problem for him will be changing the mindset of supporters and the department of pro-Munster propaganda in the media who seem to continually call for up the jumper the stuff. Remind me how thats served Munster in the past two seasons and how good Ireland are doing it to. Felix Jones didn't snap his leg off tying his shoelace so good news there.

It's actually Derren Brown with a Welsh accent. Every time I listened to him during the Six Nations he screamed "Dan Lydiate again" at the top of his lungs. I'd watch excitedly to see what he had done only to be constantly disappointed that it was nothing more than a basic tackle that any rugby player bar Ronan O'Gara would make. If being a better tackler than ROG is your goal then you need to reassess your life choices.
Credit to Jiffy, he managed to hypnotise an entire nation into believing he is the best 6 in the northern hemipshere. Bless em. And people doubt the power of television. He's the rugby equivalent of playing GTA and picking up hookers and then murdering them to get your money back. The Daily Mail should be appalled. Think what it will do to your house prices.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
There already is a link up. We've had a few of the amateur players on trial with the pro side this season and a lot of them playing for the A side. I'm not sure how many of the academy have played for the Geese but I am sure that if required that would happen. In effect we are still one club, professional and amateur.

I won't be silenced. I'm making a political point. I'm a political prisoner and I'm smearing my excrement around the walls of some selected threads to make a point. Let's call it a dirty protest about a couple of posters who destroy any semblance of debate in Irish threads. I've asked mods before to do something but they haven't so we are where we are. I preempted my slagging of Munster by warning a few people I was strictly WUMming....well, mostly.

Why not Stag? The Irish threads are invariably ruined. I would like to chat about Irish rugby but we can't. I'm not a fan of Earls at 13 and I want to see him on the wing, I don't really rate POM at present but he will be a good player in a couple of seasons time when he matures. I'm sure you don't agree. Good for you, and good for me. At the end of the day I don't really care who pulls on the green shirt (apart from Strauss and Bent- I 100 million % agree with what you said on the podcast by the way), I just want Ireland to win. Sure us nordies had quite a while where we had token representation and it didn't lessen my support for Ireland one iota.
This is either a board where we can have civilised adult debate or it isn't. The mods have to decide what sort of place this is going to be. Enough voices of dissent have been raised by Irish fans on these boards and nothing is done.

Superb, and look at the affect it has had. About as much as....I want to make some sort of comment about Declan Kidney here but I can't think of anything clever. Ok, ok, that banning order was like the new rule changes to Kidneys gameplan- nothing.
An when you say 'copy', you of course mean better him. I do it with style, with a little je ne sais quoi. And with that bit of French already I am a favourite for the Heineken.
I thought you said something really interesting on the podcast about putting the New Zealanders on a pedestal. Sure we see that every season with the French teams in the Heineken- oh, Clermont, Toulouse and Toulon are favourites according to alot of people. Does anyone watch the Top 14? The standard of rugby is really not that high as people make out. All those teams are beatable, but because they are French they are automatically better than all comers.

Intereating. i would have said that its a marked difference. Leunster will play Clermont and expect to win. Ireland will play NZ and hope not to lose.

Maybe that is the affect (or is it effect, I never know) of actually going there and winning. These French teams have an air about them that i think comes from the press an awful lot. 'Look at their wages limits, the star power!', but so far I have not been one bit impressed with Toulon. Toulouse, bit so so for me. Clermont have been a bit more impressive but I would still back Leinster to win. I haven't really seen anything from them that I wouldn't think Leinster, Ulster, or Harlequins couldn't beat.
You are of course right about New Zealand and I won't say we put French clubs on the same level. But look at our record against France over the past decade, particularly in Paris. It's in the players heads, much as New Zealand are.

Right, c'mon Ealing!!
Old Albanians have a SA scrum half (Stefan Liebenberg)who has been over here a few seasons. He was at at Bedford last sesson so we'll need to keep our eyes on him.

It's all about the winning mentality- if you know you can and should win the game even when you are losing, that self-belief lets you put that last bit of effort in to steal the win when if it weren't there and you accepted that you'd lost then there's no motivation to keep trying against the odds, or less motivation at least.

Thats what I was most pleased with last night. Ulster were 24-20 up but we knew we were in control of the game. So we had the confidence to go for the jugular and the try bonus point and we turned down two kickable pens to go for it. That mindset was the winning of the game- after we got our fourth the fight went out of Edinburgh.
