The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the island of Jersey, where the newly promoted hme side is off the bottom of the Championship.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Glen Jackson, Dan Parks and Matt Banahan above the bar.

Things are grand here thanks. Got all the family here and being typically Irish have already had a fight
It will all be grand tomorrow, we will drink to Jamesy and have a hell of a party to celebrate him.

Saw some good graffiti in tesco's gents today:
Sign said: warning hot water
Someone scribbled: why's it so hot
Someone scribbled underneath: to kill off bacteria
Who knew people who wrote on toilet walls had this sort of knowledge?!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
I don't know exactly how extensive or detailed it is but my lad does some core stuff at rugby training.
We have noticed though that several of the lads of around his age who play rugby and compete at a high level of ahletics really start to suffer from particularily calf problems. Not sure why but I will need to talk to his coaches and a physio at some stage to figure out if it's just coincidence or if they are doing something specific.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
Mark spoke all about this Mrs P. If your lad is at an age where growth spurts occur its pretty common to have problems, especially shin and knee problems because the bones, ligaments and muscles are growing at different rates. At this age kids need to reduce their training load a bit and do more corrective stuff.
He said last night the key things is stretch and strengthen - i.e. stretch the agonist and strengthen the antagonist with 2 to 1 ratio. So like these lads should be doing exercises to stretch the calf and strengthen the muscle at the shin (?) maybe. You could try using the overhead squat test on them.
Really intesting thing too about the fact that hamstring and groin problems are usually caused by glute misfiring..very common for people who sit at desks all day. Running action comes from the glute, hamstring and groin in that order. People who sit at desks all day have poor hip mobility and posture so the power is coming from the handstring instead causing it to pull and tear, then the groin goes.
I'll try and dig out some links for this stuff later but Mark and Brian are basically going out to schools to try and educate the teachers and coaches.

One time at bandcamp................errr sorry, at the gymnasium, the trainer there said to me it is not good for a child under the age of thirteen to do body building, for the reasons as Rodders said above.

Not the best of Welsh teams, I don't think. Halfbacks don't really inspire me, Backrow pretty meh and form loosehead on bench.

Howler thinks that starting off with a loss is a good idea, obviously. That's a decent bench, but what if they've smashed us up front by half time?

Wow James Hook on the bench....Gatland must hate Biggar!
Warburton will be Lions captain by the looks of it. Tipuric is the man in form for sure.

Rugby has a horrible habit of laying waste best laid plans, but unearthing gems in adversity. Oh yes and mixing metaphors.

I shouldn't, but...
I can't see anyone beating NZ on this tour. Their opponents all have too many key players out.

Man City 0-2 AJAX after 17 mins. This young side knows no fear.
This may be the end of Mancini, IF they lose this one.
Long way to go yet. City need to score before HT.

Evening All How's everyone doodling?
Chuffed that O's newbie Jarvis gets to make his debut for Wales on Saturday. Very interesting to see Mike Phillips wasn't picked. I'm glad really, we do need to try out new scrum halves, and he's been a pillock recently so that's told him.

Evening all. Spent half of yesterday trying to sort out fill in players for netball tonight as we had 5 players away! And once I'd managed it I had to play in mid court (as the 2 male players I'd recruited are both over 6'4").
Ran myself into the ground, and we narrowly lost to a team with 4 England players, but I got player of the match!
