The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the island of Jersey, where the newly promoted hme side is off the bottom of the Championship.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Glen Jackson, Dan Parks and Matt Banahan above the bar.

Huge chunk of the mid west just called for Romney. Not surprising Indiana the only state to change hands so far.

I might not last the night here.
Obama 143 Romney 153
Seems as though Florida, Ohio and Virginia are going right down to the wire. Obama has a 0.2% lead in Florida, a 7% lead in Ohio but he's down 4% in Virginia. Realistically if one of those 3 declares soon (unlikely) for Obama we could all go home. So hurry up please lads.

So the likes of New Hampshire, Minnesota and Pennsylvania have declared blue. If Romney had any serious ambitions they might just be starting to dwindle. Ohio lead down to 6%. National share so far Obama 48.4% Romney 50.3%. This is where voting and polls starts to make my head hurt.

How's it going Willy? Still up?
Just hope Obama can get Florida - that will be the final nail for Romney. And Ohio too.
ABC says Obama 172 Romney 163
CNN says Obama 147 Romney 158
I can't wait to hear those people on 'Fox & Friends' do the post Election analysis... they will be asking more hard questions like "what went wrong?" and "what was the all that money spent on?"
The Republican 'war room' is very nervous now apparently. They have conceded the fact that the Democrats had the better ground game.

The American system is a laugh though. Obama knows he can't be elected again, so can get away with anything on the name of his 'legacy'. How is that democratic accountability?

Bore da pawb / good morning all. I'm slightly disappointed that Mitt Romney didn't win. It would have made the next fours years more interesting.

Thank the heavens it's not Rommey. The lack of democratic accountability, whilst inherently undemocratic, might be the only way to get things done. I always think fear of not being reelected by a public incapable of focusing on anything other than the short term is a major factor that stops our governments doing anything meaningful

Unfortunately, CJ, the only thing that matters is getting into power and, once in power, staying there. Principles don't seem to matter any more. New Labour are / were the best example. Once they moved to the centre, there was no credible socialist alternative. No wonder we're seeing low voter turnout when all the parties promise the same thing, namely, what they think people want to hear.

Yeah, I do see little discernible difference between any of our prospective parties. The flipside is that if someone acts without caring about reelection you can get unregulated ego-driven policies run by incompetent unthinking arrogant morons like Jeremy Hunt who seems to be singlehandedly trying to euthanise our struggling NHS

It made me laugh when Jeremy Hunt being given the Health Secretary job was described as a 'reward' for the Olympics going well, as though he was responsible for that success.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
I love politics as much as I love peas.
No matter how many parties there are in any democratic country, they all do the same thing.
Take education as an example.
the ruling party "runs it at the time", all the other parties criticise it and say they can do it better.
Usually the polical answer when asked how you would make it better is something along the lines of "We'll we'll appoint an independant committee to analyse the education system and then we will assess the situation and make the necessary improvements.
then they get to power, "assess" four four years, do nothing, and then the ousted party starts their campaign pretty much in the same manner as the new ruling party.
You can pretty much see the cycle repeat itself all the time.
Even economic policies that is most likel the most important issue that ruling parties need to deal with doesn't come to full fruition due to this.
I look at things in SA, sure everyone has equal rights, but nothing have improved, in fact a good number of things have gone backwards.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

'In Maine, Washington and Maryland voters approved gay marriage laws, while in Minnesota a ban on same-sex unions was rejected. Those four wins were the first time they had passed the ballot test in any state.'

Freezing today. Went for a long (ish) run yesterday, so my calves are a bit wreckedo. I am feeling pretty confident that I can do this marathon next year though.

Evening All I've been busy with work...yadda yadda...
I'm actually rather excited about the AIs this weekend. It'll just be great to see some international rugby on telly again It'll be interesting to see how the Welsh lads do considering how the regions have faired so far this season...looking forward to seeing Tommy AT 14 in the green too. Nom!
Relieved to see O'Bama is staying in his office too

Hello peeps. I've had problems getting my phone charged today. It seems to be on the mend now (but time for an upgrade methinks).
Good luck to everyone and their teams over the weekend. And congrats to Glen Jackson, who takes charge of his first international since retiring as a player.
After Rolland and Lacey, he's the only ex pro player to take up refereeing at pro level.

Evening all.
Silly question time. With the AIs on this weekend, the LV Cup is kickjing off.
Are the Irish and Scots Pro12 teams playing at all this weekend?
(Just so I don't make a bigger fool of myself on the podcast)
Glas, I'm just waiting for Yappysnap to get home and sign in, then will call you

Kiwi - no Pro 12 this weekend.
The Irish are 'rotating' their players.
