The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the island of Jersey, where the newly promoted hme side is off the bottom of the Championship.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Glen Jackson, Dan Parks and Matt Banahan above the bar.

Screw this I've had enough......there's no passion in this Welsh side at all, no one wanted to be on that pitch, no one gee-ing the other's up, no leadership from the sidelines.......mad to think that with almost the same side we won the grand slam.

FT 19-26. Well done Samoa. Decent win for you although I'm not happy with some of their tactics regardless of how bad Wales have been. Well done Oz - a few squid out of that win.
I see a massive loss against the ABs next week.

Come on mun, its not that bad yet. You'll lose your next two tests and have an average Six nations. Then you'll win another Slam the next year after everyone has written you off. Better to be up and down than consistently mediocre like us!
I've got to say, I've just got in right now to see that last try being awarded, and I'm absolutely chuffed to bits for Samoa. Absolutely delighted to see them get the win. I don't want you guys to take this the wrong way, it's just Wales have every advantage in terms of getting their guys together compared to Samoa who really struggle. I know Wales have had a few issues with player release with French clubs, but Samoa have a whole other ballpark of issues.
It sounds like Samoa gave everything, the passion and the skill of these guys against all the odds- you have to say, if you're a neutral its hugely admirable. Commiserations to all the Welsh fans but congratulations to Samoa.

+1000! They could really take our scalp if they were coming. I'm nervous enough about a very strong Argentina side... I'm guessing Rob Howley isn't going to get this gig long term.

Wow, kind of unfair Wales are behind Ireland now. No way are you worse than us but I'll take it if it means our position is more secure.
It helps us both if South Africa beat Scotland, but now we're in seventh I'm even more happy to cheer for the Scots in that one.

What a win for Samoa, they really wanted that out there tonight.
What on earth has happened to Wales. They were poor in so many areas of the game it was unreal. Priestland is a shadow of the player we saw in the World Cup.
Commiserations to all the Welsh regs.

Where's Lucky?
I was hearing on the radio that there was one polling station in Newport where not one single vote was cast today. I was thinking Lucky could have been famous if only he had exercised his franchise.

The more I practice the luckier I get
Gary Player.
The more these lads train the worse they get. It seems that playing matches is an inconvenience to the training schedule. I honestly think that what they are expected to do can not be any fun, because all hwyl has been drained/coached/knocked out of them.
I'd honestly rather see us losing by chucking it about with abandon with a ropey defence, but playing with passion and a smile on our faces coached by Todger Lewis' aunty...

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
Hmmm, where to start with that game.
1 - I was impressed by Samoa's commitment and enterprise.
2 - I was also surprised Samoa didn't draw a yellow in the first half for persistant coming in from the side at rucks. Some of the tackles were borderline and physical, but I've seen worse. The strangle tackle also deserved a yellow.
3 - Gauzere was a wee bit out of his depth, but got the scrum calls ok imo.
4 - Why did Wales not persist carrying the ball into Samoa after the first 3 minutes of the 2nd half??? It was working.
The game was entertaining enough, but if ever Wales wanted to stick their plan A, and exert some pressure inside the oppo's 40m line, this was it.
Coaching? Players not able to read the unfolding game?

For me, Sa'amoa were just thinking faster/better. I was close to weeping for Ryan, just because I admire him so much as a player and a man, but so many on that pitch were sadly lacking.
Cari, it must have been a good game for neutrals 'cause Mr Puma really enjoyed it. Enjoy your weekend, querida, sounds like your week was better behind you than in front.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
I said after the Argentina game that any changes in personnel for the Samoa game would only make so much difference if the gameplan remained the same. Lo and behold...
Just how easy do we want to make it for the opposition? All we did last night (when we weren't kicking away the ball) was play one-up rugby. There was no support play whatsoever, no threat of an offload in the tackle. The ballcarrier was going to take the ball into contact and go to ground. How was this ever going to get us anywhere? All Samoa needed to do was make their tackles.
Our ineptitude in the backs was a betrayal of our footballing heritage. Shouldn't it be second nature to a rugby player that when you have an overlap, you have to commit the defender before you pass? There we were, for the second match in a row, shipping the ball to the winger without committing the Samoan defence, allowing them to drift across to cover him. Clueless doesn't even cover it. These are fundamental skills. What have they been practising in training?
In a way, I'm glad that we lost, as it exposes again how uninspired and easy to contain our gameplan is. When we come up against teams who match us physically, we have no answer. We play no football whatsoever.
The team that played all the rugby won the match, just like last weekend. Samoa were great value for their win and they deserve all the plaudits they get. The team that wanted it more ended up winning. Who'd have thought it?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Jersey
I'm glad that Samoa have come out and said that they knew what they were going to get from us too. Time for Howley to earn his attack coach wage, yet alone his head coach wage when Gatland is away.
It always troubles me watching a team pile into rucks etc with more venom (albeit there's a case to say questionably sometimes) than a home team. Wales want to take a look at that "Protect This House" slogan that Under Armour use (as naff as it is) and actually think about doing it.
Morning anyway. Been in the field all week and my feet and shins are wrecked. Got to go out again from next week too. At least the weather was fairly dry, though we did have to practise patrols through a flooded railway bridge (knee high). That was horrible. It was nice for one of the lads to give me the Welsh team on Thursday though, as it did give me a bit of a lift (though of course it didn't end well).

Just going to watch Wales vs Samoa on the iPlayer, and I've just noticed that Filo Paulo is in the second row for Samoa! Go on you Ulster legend.
He was with us, but he couldn't get a work permit or visa or something so he had to go back to New Zealand. We missed out on a really good lock.

Thanks Puma. I'm gutted for R-Jo too. He was so emotional during the anthem, it was such a privilege for him being captain again, but after that game...well that was just a kick in the nadgers.
