The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Colwyn Bay, where the Tier 2 AIs are currently taking place.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Bob Scott and Malele Kunavore above the bar.

Haha you seem to get through jobs like PJ get's through team's he supports!
Watching a programme on toilets.....talking about public defecation in Bangladesh....mad how much of a big thing getting a toilet into a village is. Makes us realised the thing's we take for granted.

My line of work does that for me quite often.....especially in the current climate now where people just can't get work even though they're work ready.....one of my young people was told she was over qualified for McDonald's!!

Times are tough lads.... and the economy won't improve much any time soon either. Unemployment, especially for young people, is a real problem everywhere unfortunately.

Hiya Driver
MrsP - I see what you're saying about that thread. That it ran (or still does) to 4 pages astounded me. Maybe the plea could have been handled differently, but the message needed to be said. Time to rein certain posters in, I think.
It hasn't been great on the International forum recently. I read a lot of it, but rarely feel like commenting. If others feel the same way (and many do I suspect), then the trolls, wums, or whatever have won.

I have often wondered if the mods would be better off using a specific "moderator" account when intervening rather than using their own account.
Might that help to depersonalise some of the disputes?
Anyway, I really hope Bilt has a wee break, if he feels he needs it and returns refreshed. The place would be much the poorer without him.

It's mad, I can count at least 8 regs who are hardly on here anymore, it's a bit of a shame but good to see other's join too. Hopefully round Christmass everyone'll come back and get more involved.
Times are a changing in this pub I think.
And on that note I bid you goodnight untill the morrow.

Good idea about the specific 'Moderator account' whereby the Mod's user name is hidden. Still, if some people hadn't been posting unnecessary generalisations about teams, Biltong may not have bitten back.
Still, only next weekend to go, for 4 teams, then everyone can start piling into each other over the HC.
What are the odds on who will be the first non European poster to disparage the competition?
(Joke - honest).
Who'd be a Mod, eh

And then it will be the 6 Nations again.
That was nearly the end of my 606V2 journey last season.
On that note I will bid you adieu.

Yeah, the honeymoon period for 606v2 certainly is over. Its very difficult to run a forum on a volunteer basis if people are determined to WUM and those people are allowed to dominate discourse, because more interesting posters stop posting.
Seems like the forum is falling into the same vicious cycle as the old 606, most likely driven by the many of same people under different aliases.
I enjoy posting in the club season much more.

Morning all
MrsP, i personally like the fact that the Moderators on this site are not faceless. Its not there fault that certain posters fail to distinguish between this.
I also hope that Biltong comes back because i like chatting with him, he is an excellent poster to disagree with because he never takes things personally and we can have great debates.
I was online on Sunday and i cant recall the 'carange' that some posters are recalling and i dont think that Glas' thread was that bad too be honest. Open for a debate but some people took it a little too extreme.

Morning all
Hope everyone is well. I have noted the comments here and elsewhere about how the board is being run and that we may have lost posters due to some of the WUM's incessent nonsense. I've not been around much so not really assisted as a moderator just due to being busy, but I now have more time and am discussing with Adam, Pete and Breaker privately how we can address this as I really don't want to see good posters disappearing from the site.
Hopefully things will pick up again soon.
Anyway, have a good day one and all, and hope it's not too damp where you all are!

Ozzy, i dont think that this site is loosing that many good posters, if any. I honestly feel that this has all been slightly blown out of proportion. Sunday, some people just hit the 'over sensitive' button and complaints for innocuous posts and threads were flying into the mod section left right and centre which left Biltong feeling a little overwhelmed.
The mods do an excellent job on here.

Billy
There was a massive over reaction on Sunday I agree. It could have been avoided but I feel there is a fair bit of built up annoyance for some people over what they percieve as previous inaction on the part of the moderation team. As I say, I've not been around much due to being busy elsewhere, but having had a bit of time over the past couple of days I have had a look at some of what's been going on and having discussions with Adam and Pete about it.
We are all agreed that if we lose 1 good contributor due to a persistant WUM then that is one too many. There is sometimes a fine line between vitriol and banter, and if we feel that people are deliberately crossing it, they will be getting shown the door.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
I can understand that Ozzy but it was nowhere near as bad as it was during the last 6N and not many posters left after that. I felt that Glas was the victem of some extremely over sensitive people to be honest. I did not agree with what he wrote, made a comment and he answered it accordingly, thats what a forum is for.
From what i saw, most of the people who were complaining were people that could not be described as whiter than white themselves.
I reitterate that i feel that the moderation on this forum is of a very high standard. I feel badly that Biltong was singled out as i feel he does a very good job.
He defended his posting style as he is a poster first and a moderator second. I was in total agreeance with that. Some people need to understand that mods on this site are posters first.
Lastly, the odd wumming session by a few posters also brings some humour to this site but do agree that the personal abuse should no longer be tolerated.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
Billy, you are preaching to the converted mate. I well constructed, original wum article is fantastic as it can bring a lot of humour so long as people take it in the right spirit. We do have some serial complainers on this site as well as wums, and they will be getting spoken to over the next 48 hours as well.
Generally we moderate in a reactive manner, however there come points where a brief spell of proactive moderation is required to just keep things on an even keel. Nothing OTT, just a reminder to a few of what the site should be about. As in life it is a small minority causing the majority of issues that arise, and a gentle, but firm nudge in the ribs tends to sort things out pretty quickly.
Anyway, how's the recovery going mate? You all good now?

Bye Prop!
William of Orange,
Just for clarity, I wasn't suggesting that the posters who are also mods should post under an anonymous label, just that perhaps separating their posting hat from their moderation hat could be useful.
I think you all know my views on the "threshold" for moderation too but that is a debate that should have been allowed to take place some time ago and should not have been directed at any individual or collective part of the Moderation team. I tried to do that during the 6 Nations but my effort was not well received in some quarters to say the least.
Lots of people have become frustrated with the site I think and it was a discussion which needed to happen. It was very poor that, due to the circumstances Biltong was on the recieving end of alot of that frustration which turned into personal criticism.
Biltong better come back soon or I'm sending some large AB thugs round to his house to drag him back!!!!!

yesterday?!?! Frustrating!!
Anywho....back to rugby stuff. My guess of welsh xv if all are fit/who I'd like to play: melon-rees-andrews-charteries-evans-tips-warburton-faletau
Phillips-biggar-cuthbert-davies-williams(or other way round)-williams-h.p
Leaving a bench of: owens-bevington-lee-jones-shingler-knoyle-roberts-north.
I know not having a 10 replacement isn't great but to be honest I'd love an impact bench of roberts and north and feel williams doesn't deserve to be dropped.
Oh and bring it on guys...I'll take on the lotta ya!! I'm not budging from my seat, everyone needs a Glos fan!!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
Morning all,
Busy day shaping up at work, not good on 4 1/2 hours sleep
I went out for a few pints with fallingTP and PanamaRdOtahuhu last night, good catch up.
Woke up around 4am and managed to pull the bottom hinge of the bathroom door away from the wall as the door jammed on a bathmat. Spent half an hour failing to fix it - it looks like the doorframe needs replacing, there's a fair amount of rot there. Then couldn't sleep while waiting for my flatmate to get up so I could fess up
NZ are doing well in the cricket in Sri Lanka, but there's a Kiwi/Aussie bickering match going on in comments sent to the cricinfo text commentators!

Kiwi,
I think we should "let it be known" around this place that a "certain Mod" is so upset that he is literally ripping doors off their hinges and, on top of that, has had very little sleep. So it might be wise to stay on the right side of him today....
Even though his rugby team are "allegedly" the dirtiest thugs on the planet!!!!!

Totally disagree Notch. I think 606V2 is coming of age as a mature debating forum.... the 606 war is over and the reconciliation is gradually taking place between auld enemies. From the dirt grows the flowers.
I think a very small number of people have totally lost a bit of perspective and need to cool off for a bit. I nearly quit in blaze of glory a few weeks ago over a disagreement over a penalty decision .... something that seems pretty hilarious in hindsight.... fiec it's only a game (and I was wrong anyways) .... and ...you know if people can't handle different points of view and a bit of banter then perhaps an internet debating forum isn't the best place for them...
I agree totally with Billser above....

Afternoon, amigos. Cracking day here - hope everyone who has been suffering mega-wet weather is also enjoying a bit of sunshine. The down side is that it is going to be very cold tonight.
I see that Quinn Roux has dislocated his shoulder and will be out for 2-3 months. I'm no expert but he was in a lot of pain and he looked absolutely gutted as he was helped off the pitch, so not surprised to hear this. Anyone got a spare lock they can lend us?

You have my sympathy Puma.
We went to Italy for 2 games with only one lock available between injuries and internationals.
And it showed.
I think we may have lost more lineouts than we won our own throw.
