2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
First topic message reminder :
The discussion(s) continue here guys.
Unbelievable win for the Canaries tonight which see's Man City top for the first time this season, will they hold on.
QPR - still without a win - look doomed and Aston Villa drop into the bottom 3.

Houghton is too nice to do such a thing. Refs in general now give a free kick for contact....
Gareth Bale said in his interview that if there is contact it can't be a dive (or it is a foul, can't remember which?) and it would appear that is the way refereeing is going.

Seriously Jack watch MOTD today and see what is a disgraceful display of refereeing by Mark Clattenburg. It's shocking

Just checked the penalty out on ESPN goals and must say that is a laughable decision. Really really awful.

He misses a clear handball and a clear foul on Kane in the box as well. I don't usually get riled up like this but I'm seriously annoyed today. I hope Clattenburg is fined or relegated down the divisions for a few weeks because there is no way he should get away with that performance

Will watch the highlights tonight to see the refs decisions. Sounds as tho' Hammers missed some good chances as well as goals scored.
Points were desperately needed by West Ham - perhaps ref took that into account!

DIssapointed not to get the 3 points today.
ok Swansea should have been out of sight after half hour from what Cottee was saying on soccer saturday.
But still 2-1 up going into injury time, shame not to hold on.
Next league game, i'm back up in brum for the weekend, have to beat saints.

Does Gary Lineker get a bonus every time he says 'concur' or has he just learnt a new word?

Well having watched it on MOTD I'm still outraged.
There penalty I can't see how they say that is a penalty. Yes Bennett has his shirt but Reid has his forearm up in Bennett's neck, and that is the sort of incident that occured another 5/6 times in the game from corners and yet the ref gave nothing.
The second goal I thought Tettey had a head injury but he didn't so no complaints there. Well apart from our awful defending
The handball is as clear a handball as you will see. How the ref and especially the lino missed that I'll never know.
And the Kane one is a clear penalty and a red card but if he doesn't give the penalty why has he not booked him for diving?
Absolutely pathetic refereeing performance from the so called "showbiz" ref. Always has to be centre of attention.
And if I hear anybody use the excuse, "it evens itself out of the course of a season", then I will bop them in the head. Because it doesn't. If it does we have got a whole glut of penalties coming our way in the second half of this season

Tbh I can see why he gave the first penalty. The West Ham defender has got a firm grasp of his shirt and although we see this not given time and time again at corners, its time we started seeing them given. I know the striker was also backing in but you can't grab hold of someone's shirt in the penalty box and get away with it.

Ok explain to me why he hasn't given penalties for when it happened numerous other times from corners throughout the game?
I'm sorry but if that's a penalty we are going to see 10 penalties a week if the ref shows some goddamn consistency

Not many ref's are giving these pens that's the problem. There needs to be a clamp down because its gotten ridiculous now. People are actually wrestling with each other and pulling one another to ground and somehow ref's are turning a blind eye to it. The only way to stop is to give penalties and then people will stop doing it then.

Well if that's a penalty then I'm losing faith in football. We will see 10-20 penalties given a game and it will become a farce.
It's like we cant have a tussle or physical contact anymore.

And this, if defenders got pulled up for, you know, fouling everytime they did it, they'd stop fouling and actually start defending.

Im not one to moan when decisions dont go our way and I'll say when I dont think the refs had a good game in general but yesterday was an absolute disgrace.
If the ref puts in that sort of a performance when say Wigan play Southampton that could have a direct influence on who gets relegated and cost a club a chunk of that new TV money coming in. There is too much at stake in football now for this to happen

You get relegated due to performances over a 38 game season with 114 points available- weak excuse to say the ref cost you 1 or 3 in one game, what about the other 111 available!

Sturridge to Liverpool done deal. Talented player no doubt and did do quite well when played down the middle. But when you have Ba moving to Chelsea for 5m left you wonder why Liverpool are not learning from their mistakes in buying over priced English players.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
Right games tonight:
Liverpool vs Sunderland
Big game for both. Sunderland haven't kicked in since beating City and will be looking for a point tonight. Liverpool have the chance to kick start a more consistent run. Seems they win followed by a loss. Big chance for them tonight.
Prediction: 2-1 Liverpool win
Chelsea vs QPR
QPR have flooded the midfield tonight and i'm sure they'll be all out for a draw. Chelsea have rested a few but I still think they'll have too much for QPR's defense.
Prediction: 3-0 Chelsea win
Newcastle vs Everton
Tough one to call. I thought Everton were slightly unlucky to lose to Chelsea last time out. They have Felliani back which is a huge boost for them. Newcastle need some points, maybe Cisse will begin to hit some form again now Ba is out of the equation.

Newcastle are in real danger of being sucked into a relegation battle now, they're just 2 points ahead of Wigan in 18th.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 2
Well QPR made me eat my words, didn't see that fantastic result coming at all tonight despite Chelsea resting a couple. Nice to see the old buy SWP on the score sheet as well. Is this the result that turns their season around? maybe.
Newcastle desperately need to sign some players in this transfer window. Their squad is simply not up to it and will be weakened further with the African Cup of Nations coming up. Need 3/4 new players imo.
Great result for Liverpool also tonight. It'll give them confidence getting back to back wins. Suarez is on fire and with some more signings they could actually challenge for a top 6 finish, maybe not top 4 but definitely top 6.

I am basically gunning for redknapp to secure QPR in the prem. This is a great result for him and them..
Newcastle and pardew are deffo over the honeymoon . Are cracks appearing?
Suarez is just unreal.. Player of the season so far for me,

QPR have a good run of winnable games come Febuary onwards. If they are relatively in touch by then the miracle could be on, could be.

That Marin challenge was a bad one. Very lucky to stay on the field, was completely reckless, had no control over his body and caught him above the ankle. Red all day in my book but obviously had no effect on the final result luckily for QPR.

Given that they didn't win a game for nearly half the season it would be pretty miraculous if they stayed up.

That time Pompey were spending like 10x their annual turnover on wages? Then he convieniently left just as the financial problems kicked in. In actuality, every club bar Spurs Redknapp has managed has entered financial oblivion after hes done.
With the squad he had they shouldve made CL. Last year too.
'Arrys the most overhyped manager in years. Thank god the FA saw sense and went with Roy.
