The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Dubai دبيّ
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Dubai, host city for the upcoming round of the IRB Rugby World 7s.
Visitors are reminded to dress sensibly and carry their working-'holiday' permit with them at all times and if possible; engage in their sinful drinking habits within the smoky confines of the underground "English Pub". We have more big screens than you could ever dream of...
If you need to go for a swim at the beach - application forms for towels and umbrellas are available at the bar.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Ricky Ponting, Bradley Davies, Andrew Hore and Craig Gilroy above the bar.

Morning all, hope everyone's well.
I'm on training most of the rest of the day, just thought I'd say hello.
Had a nice birthday pressie arrive in the mail yesterday (well, actually it may have arrived last week, reception at work forgot to tell me I had a package, but a colleague spotted it in the mail room while hunting for his own Amazon packages).
Consequently I started reading Richie McCaw's autobiography at 9.30 last night (we had a charity quiz night at work 1st), finished it around 12.30. A really good read with plenty of insight into the mindset of a top player.
He doesn't have too many nice things to say about Wayne Barnes, Stu Dickinson or Bryce Lawrence though
Quote of the book for me.
"Some people have a natural charm and grace. Quade [Cooper] isn't one of those" ...

That's not nice. He just collapsed. Looked really innocuous until the called for a stretcher. He came up to he stand in a plastic boot. Nasty. It will force Gatland's hand and whilst I'd prefer Biggar I would also prefer it to be Biggar from choice, if that doesn't sound completely daft...

Sorry to hear about Priestland although, if it's any consolation, that was the injury suffered by Payne in his 2nd game for us and he has been absolutely fantastic since his return.
I see TOL is out for a similar period with a back problem requiring surgery.

Woo hoo. Just had my last ever end of year performance review. I took great pleasure in ripping the thing in half and sticking it in the shredder bin as soon as I came out.

Aye Pete. It was quite satisfying for my manager to be saying, "Well I would like to set you this and that target for next year, but there's no point is there?"

But it's part of her target to have her team's end of year reviews done by a certain time. You do do not think about flouting the system and the rules comrade.
It is all 'management by numbers, da!
So eveyone lies about how much they are actually doing.

26% of people in Wales not born here. 80% of incomers born in England. Welsh speaking young people migrating away from Wales looking for work. It's not looking good for the oldest surviving European language.

Evening All
- must be good to do that. And you could tell your boss what you thought about them and not worry about getting disciplined for it or an unfavourable reference off them Fortunately, my line manager's fab now, but I've had some horrible ones before.
Glas - I think at worst, Welsh could eventually go the way of Irish and Scots Gaelic. There's almost some inevitability about it. Nationality is blurring in most places. I bet the right wingers will have a field day with the census results though.

Evening all,
Hound, I've gone with your limerick for tomorrow
Our annual review process is nice and complicated. And to top it off our boss (who isn't a fan of the process, but who is pretty good at arguing for his team) has (unofficially) told us that 80% of the company will be getting a "meets expectations" grade anyway, so we'll pretty much all be getting the same % of our salary as a bonus.
Glas, in NZ we've managed to preserve (and even expand*) the use of Maori. On a much smaller and more widespread population of native speakers than in Wales. So there's plenty of hope
*admittedly simply stopping teachers from caning students who dared to use Maori words as was standard practice in the 50s and 60s was an easy initial improvement

Cari - I wouldn't do something like that. Bless 'em, I announced I was doing the off yesterday, and they had a leaving card sorted and a gift card for me before I left the office today.
I was always going to cocentrate on the previous 36 years in the job, which were invariably enjoyable, if I was asked to say a few words. Thankfully, they asked me to tell some funny stories about 'the old days'.
I was happy to oblige, and say goodbye to my colleagues in Exeter in a positive way.

Kiwi - happy to be of service
Glas - I'm not surprised you're seeing an influx of Londoners into Wales For many middle aged and retired people as London has become unsafe and intolerable for many.
I can see why Wales would tick a lot of boxes for some people. Don't knock it.
And it's up to the Welsh to keep the language alive. The English are quite keen on learning new languages in later life.
Most of my Wasps mates are more than passable at at least one other language.
Keep the faith.

Ozzy, anytime soldier. That would be cool.
Prop, yer a six-fingered knuckle-dragging cousin fecker, but I loves you.
One of my favourite quips in Forest Gump is:
Lieutenant Dan: What's wrong with your lip?
Bubba: I was born with big gums, sir.
Lieutenant Dan: Well, you better tuck that in. Gonna get that caught on a trip wire, son.

Penfro, Unsurprisingly I am tasked from Friday, till around the 20th Dec. I should be ok, but just making you aware as its pretty close to the Blouse v Scarlets meet on the 21st.
Work are a right Shower A Shids for sending me on this, as I'm supposed to be off tasking and am missing my Flight's Christmas doo (not such a biggy, but just adds to my annoyance that I'm tasked again).
Anyway, I hope to be back and will keep you posted.

Bore da pawb / good morning all. I spent most of yesterday working on site in Tredegar with the gang, who were a man down. The day went quickly, but I'm not used to working on my feet all day, let alone outdoors. I enjoyed it and I was happy to help out, but I'm looking forward to staying indoors today!
When I was at school (primary and secondary), we spoke Welsh at school but we'd speak Welsh outside school, too - it was just what we did, it would have felt weird if we'd spoken English to each other. Even now, if I see someone from school, we'll speak Welsh. But by the time I was in the sixth form, you'd hear the younger pupils speaking Welsh at school, but English on the bus to and from school. I don't know if there's anything that can be done about that.
