Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The pub has made its way to Dubai, host city for the upcoming round of the IRB Rugby World 7s.

Visitors are reminded to dress sensibly and carry their working-'holiday' permit with them at all times and if possible; engage in their sinful drinking habits within the smoky confines of the underground "English Pub". We have more big screens than you could ever dream of...

If you need to go for a swim at the beach - application forms for towels and umbrellas are available at the bar.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Ricky Ponting, Bradley Davies, Andrew Hore and Craig Gilroy above the bar.

'Poem' rather than 'rhyme' in the last line would scan better, plus you'd avoid using the same word twice.

I would go back to the shorter 3rd line of the original.

Very sorry that Rava has left. The place won't be the same without him and I hope he reconsiders. Genuinely a great guy.

Even though I was quite keen on smørrebrød (Danish open sandwich, a la smorgasbord - literal translation is butter and bread), as Simon invariably gets a baguette with tuna & salad at the work canteen

I used to work with a Dane. His English was so good and he didn't have much of an accent. I didn't know he was Danish until someone told me.

I've only ever met 2 Danes (that I know of). Both speak very good English. Simon also speaks very good Mathematics - Helena's talents were a little more ahem obvious

I just listened to an audio pronunciation of smørrebrød, and to my ear it sounds like "smur-ble".

So:

Rava and Rodders, I hope you don't pop in to see the reaction to your departure and read this.

I think they are cracking rugby fans, passionate and partisan without being rude or deliberately antagonistic. I hope to bump into them as whatever the strengths of this place, Gibbo nailed it quite early on, there is no substitute for a good old meet up.

Glas - no there isn't a substitute for a meet up, true. What I find sad though, is that this glue called The Pub which brought everyone together is drying up because for whatever reason, its patrons are leaving. Yet, people seem to be starting up new groups elsewhere, and, or are still posting on V2 (just not here) and not inviting others or choosing not to bother with certain people. I really do find that sad. The Pub used to be all inclusive, for anyone who was interested and was the foundation for all the meet ups. At this rate some of us won't be meeting up with anyone because they just won't know what's going on. Maybe it's familiarity breeding contempt for some, I don't know. Apologies if that sounds dramatic, but that's the way I see it going. Still, if that's change/progress...anything I say isn't going to make any difference. As for people leaving the group making big annoucnements, I find that a negative thing. Sorry if I offend anyone saying that but I do.

If Rodders and Rava decide to take a break I am all for it, but if they leave permanently we gonna have a problem.

Biltong - I don't know. I'm assuming it's permanent because if you're taking a break, fair enough. I wouldn't expect anyone to announce it - some do out of politeness if they're not going to be around for a while.

Cari, I reckon the pub needs a barmaid to be successful. You and Gibbo have done your turns. It's difficult if nobody is in here to keep it all going, but who can commit in that way?

Anyway. I think there are decent regs posting here despite recent departures and it will be fine yet.

Rava's done this before. This attention seeking behaviour must stop. So what you threaten to leave, we say no put up a load of nice things about you and 2 days later you're back. No. Not falling for it again. You'd better be back online no later than tonight otherwise I phone the inland revenue and give them an anonymous tip off about your last tax return. Evening all....here's a question for you music buffs: i'm currently trying to transpose piano music for my e flat sax so I can play some carols in church etc....anyone know whether i go up or down notes etc?

Are you playing solo?

If so I don't think you need to transpose at all although there are likely to be much more sharps and flats than if it was transposed.

If you play a C it will be the same as a Piano (concert pitch) playing Eb. So, to play along with others on C instruments you need to play one and a half tones lower than your Sax music.

So, if the piano music says C you play an A.
And if it says E you play Db.
If it says G you play E.

I felt kiwi was getting lost on the rhyme with cod. Carlsberg is (supposed to be) a Danish beer.

Bore da pawb / good morning all, blydi cold on the docks this morning, but there's a beautiful crescent moon in the sky and there's barely a breeze. Plus I put up the office Christmas tree yesterday, so it looks nice and festive here now.

On the subject of people leaving, well I suppose shizz happens. I have a feeling some of those who have left will come back at some point, but even if they don't, they're not off the grid completely.
