The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Amaile on the eastern-most tip of Upolu Island in Samoa - the first place on Earth to usher in the New Year.
So hop on a hammock and let one of the locals pour a kava down your throat as you are trying to read Tusiata Avia's famous poem: "Wild Dogs Under My Skirt" to the sounds of the Yandell Sister's "Sweet Inspiration" blaring in the background.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of George Pisi, Census Johnston, Paul Williams, Tony Greig, Christopher Martin Jenkins, Mike Nicholls, Babsy and Jeremy Su'a above the bar.

Bloos winning 6-17 with 8 minutes to go. I'm still thinking they'll chuck this away...

Makes you confident for the Six Nations doesn't it?
If Munster lose this, will it be Nigel's fault...?

FFS...there's more rioting in Belfast tonight and I just read that they're planning a protest in Dublin next Saturday at midday. That's the day I'm getting the train down there from Belfast. I hope I don't find myself in bother.

Won't be a big protest. These idiots have zero support.

Good win for the Blues. They'll be chuffed with an away win to Munster.

Well the organiser reckons about 150 of them Notch. Hopefully half of them won't bother and it'll be abandoned. It's just a pain in the arse. I don't have anything against anyone peacefully demonstrating - everyone has the right to do that. When they start chucking things about and making trouble it gets on my wick. That sort of behaviour overtakes the reasons behind it all.

Nah, they're just going down in the hopes of starting a riot. Its not about peaceful protest, its about provocation.

I've been in Belshaft 3 or 4 times over the past month or so (was there today too) and apart from seeing loads of police around haven't seen any riots or protests (actually apparently we passed one in the taxi after the Leinster game but was too drunk to remember ).... don't let a few put you off what will be a great trip.....
...and yes I'll be down there next week too .... SUFTUM

Great to read back and see there was a vibrant pub tonight, I couldn't make it as I was watching The Hobbit.
Oh, and I've also done Audrey Hepburn and painted some of Tommy Bowe's face, Wellies is currently somewhat naked but leaning up my dining room wall, he's next.
That's all.

Risca Athletic 35-13 Usk. Good enough win, but we left 4 tries out there. Had a whack on my temples (both at once somehow), so was a bit sore though I've managed to smash ten plus pints

There was a Rugby Special 'Weakest Link' on this afternoon. The contestants were Phil Vickery, Josh Lewsey, Andy Powell, Nick Evans, Justin Marshall, Thomas Castaignede, Paul Wallace, Lee Mears and Jamie Roberts.
Most of the questions were ridiculously easy, but that didn't prevent Andy Powell being voted off first. Roberts beat Mears in the last round, and the lads raised £16,900 for charity.
I love that episode. Anne Robinson hitting on Castagneide, Lewsey dissing her, Nev and Justin Marshall doing the haka...

Peej - good work on T-Bo. Look forward to seeing him.
Rodders - that's good. I can cope with riot police around. It'll be like Cardiff City playing at home against Swansea
Congrats to Rev and Prop on your matches at the weekend.

Bath looked to have come into the New Year with exactly the same gameplan as they ended the last one, a carp one.
Beaver has to go, total and utter waste of 300k of salary cap. He's clueless with ball in hand, iffy at best off the tee and has an open-door tackling policy.
Congratulations Hound, have you got a nose bleed yet? Should have had the TBP, but dems de breaks. Comprehensively beaten.

Commiserations, PJ. Wasps are really coming back from near extinction, some good young players in there. Even Southwell appears to have become a late-blossomer!! Congrats, Hound. I texted my bro when Wade scored, but he was at his work, looking forward to watching the match tomorrow. I refrained from texting him the final score, in case he can steer clear of hearing the final result.
In other news, I trotted off the Embra on Friday and enjoyed the match, however, who the heck decides to KO at 7.35 instead of 7.30? Missed my train back to Dunblane by 2 minutes, had to wait at Haymarket for a whole bl**dy hour, got back to Dunblane and the Blue Bug at 11.30, and home past midnight. Grrrr.

Commisrations PJ. You're guys didn't get much of a look in in the 2nd half after taking a 12-3 lead in the first. What did you think of Varnell's yellow card?
We thought he put the Bath player down on his arse.

Evening all, hope everyone's had a decent weekend.
Another try for Wade today, surely he's got to get an EPS place soon.
On a separate note looking at the Saracens game Farrell seems to have proved once again he's a decent kicker but he's done little to dispel the worries about his attacking game with no tries coming until Hodgson came on!

Bath popped their cork early as per, no surprise there.
Well, after complaining bitterly about Warb's red card in the world cup and being told by soooooooo many people that it was the correct decision and players need to be protected against dangerous tackles...
I'd still say Warb's tackle was worthy of a yellow and Varndell's was a penalty. He tipped him past the magic "horizontal" and Agulla landed on his upper arm (bicep/shoulder) and back, it definitely wasn't his arse, but it definitely wasn't a yellow card offence in my eyes.
Unfortunately the powers that be seem intent on stopping this kind of tackle come what may (unless you're a Tigger ) and "by the letter of the Law" it was a dangerous tackle.
I'm not sure when or if the idiocy on this issue is going to stop, but at the very least we should all, as fans of the sport as it is, at least expect a little consistency.
I can't wait to see what happens to The Floodmeister

Agreed PJ. Watching the re-run in the pub now. Abendanon was lucky not to see red for his trip, and we could have had a penalty try when Daly was barged off the ball when trying to ground it.
I'll put me other eye in now.

Hi MrsP, it was because "we" (the Sarries) won our top-of-the-table clash 24-18, after being 6-18 down after 45 minutes. Was a very emotional day, as we had a minute's silence for a great Sarrie (Babsy - his picture is behind the bar in this pub) who had passed away after playing in our annual Boxing Day fixture.
Not ashamed to say a had a little at the final whistle. Babsy would have been so proud of the boys
