The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amaile
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Amaile on the eastern-most tip of Upolu Island in Samoa - the first place on Earth to usher in the New Year.
So hop on a hammock and let one of the locals pour a kava down your throat as you are trying to read Tusiata Avia's famous poem: "Wild Dogs Under My Skirt" to the sounds of the Yandell Sister's "Sweet Inspiration" blaring in the background.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of George Pisi, Census Johnston, Paul Williams, Tony Greig, Christopher Martin Jenkins, Mike Nicholls, Babsy and Jeremy Su'a above the bar.

I definitely neefed the ljs at Adams Park on Saturday. That place attracts the cold because it sits in a dip in the hills.
£14 well spent.

To be honest Cari I was worried it would more like Tommy's injury.
If we get him back for the business end of the season I'll be happy.
It is a shame though as he has had such a resurgence of form and looks to be really enjoying his rugby despite playing with rib pain.

Well yes, the fact it's only eight weeks out is a positive sign I suppose. I don't like anyone having an injury. It sucks.

Evening. Girlie wars at the pub and a big falling out between two of them.
Not good
In other news Will Greenwood reckons Ulster's Dan Tuohy, Chris Henry, Craig Gilroy plus Paul and Luke Marshall should all be considered as starters for Ireland in the 6N.

Luke Marshall and Dan Tuohy look to be injured though. Marshall will definitely miss the first couple of games and I can't see Tuohy getting a look in at all because he hasn't played in a while and may not be fit for Castres.
Chris Henry and Craig Gilroy should definitely be starting against Wales.

I saw a picture of my nephew/niece on facebook there. Just a little foetus in my sisters belly. 14 weeks, looks like an alien. I'm trying to convince my sister it'll still look like that when its born but she ain't going for it

Hahaha. He may not have appreciated it
I call him the aul fella all the time. His impending grand-parenthood will just underscore my mocking! My sister is not really telling everyone just yet because of work or something. She wants maternity leave sorted I think, not sure. Soon she'll start to show and we can talk about it I guess. She didn't even tell us until she was 12 weeks.
But you don't know my sister, or where she works- and if you do; shhhhhhh!

Eh, I guess so... I don't know. This is probably why my sister didn't tell me. Me and secrets? The second thing she said after she told me was "Don't post it on facebook". She knows me too well! I didn't even mean to let it slip out above
As many of you may have observed over the years, I have a tendency to say exactly whats on my mind without any kind of filtering at all

hahahahahahaha!
When I was expecting our first I told one of my best friends and she told her husband on the strict condition that he told NO-ONE!!!!
2 days later my friend was discussing with her sister-in-law about getting together with their babies as a mini Mother and Toddler group. The husband immediately suggested they should invite me!
Way to go Nige!!!
Needless to say he was always the last to know when any more of the little Ps were on their way!
He actually had the cheek to be offended that we hadn't told him one time until we reminded him of his idea of disgression!

Well, my sister was speculating its a boy but too early to tell.
If it is- it'll be a boy born in Rathgar, South Dublin. And so the battle for his soul will commence in earnest. He will be getting plenty of invitations up to Ravenhill to at least try and give him a chance in life. Given his geographical location he may well be led astray into ranks of Leinster supporting infidels. As the boys Uncle I should make it clear he has options at the very least

Not if she's anything like my Gran, Mum, Sister or any of the women on my bro-in-laws side of the family!
Rugby is an indulgence of the male family members which is treated with bemused tolerance and rolled eyes by the fairer sex. As is pretty much all sport in the eyes of the Notch family women. The old family tree could use a tomboy to shake things up!

Amusing stuff.
We have some great female fans at Wasps, especially on the the Euro away trips. They stop the blokes making proper eejits of themselves.

Bore da pawb / good morning all. Cold again this morning!
Congratulations on the impending unclehood, Notch! On the subject of keeping these things secret, my youngest sister didn't want anyone beyond immediate family knowing that they knew the sex of the baby. My dad can't keep a secret to save his life, so when she and my brother-in-law went to north Wales to see my dad's sisters, the first question one of them asked, with a barely-suppressed smile on her face, was, 'Do you know the sex of the baby? My sister replied, 'No.' My aunt smiled a bit more and said, 'Is that a yes?'
I took the pup for a walk straight after I got home from work yesterday and it really was beautiful up on the fort. There was one part that was particularly muddy and just as I was congratulating myself on negotiating it, my feet went from under me. I went beyond the horizontal and was not brought down safely. No harm done, but if the dog could laugh, she probably would have done!

Morning Lucky.
Yeah, you get that sick feeling in your stomach as the legs go out from under you. I bet Lola was having a good laugh!
It works the other way too... when your cat falls off the window sill or the dog (in my case) bolted for this low stone wall and hurdled over it thinking there was acres of grass on the other side.
Wrong! It was in fact the harbour and she had to swim half a mile to the Sydney Yacht Squadron boat ramp. Should have heard the applause she got!

I love the fact that dogs are simultaneously clever and stupid!
When I play with the ball with Lola, I pretend to throw it up the stairs, she runs up and I throw it onto the sofa. It's in plain view, but it can take her so long to find it that I have to point it out to her.

Ha, it's an old iron-age fort near my house. Now it's like a big hill with wooded areas, great for dogs. Locals also call it the Gollars, which took me ages to remember and I thought it was the Gollum or something like that.

The Wales squad's announced at 11 this morning. Unless CJ pops in, can anyone else tell me anything about Ollie Kohn? It turns out his grandad was Welsh and it sounds like he'd be more than happy to play for Wales. I'm guessing he must be half-decent if Quins have just given him a new contract.

My last day of freedom before getting back on the treadmill.
Ryan Jones is out for a while with a dislocated thumb. Another casualty to add to the list!

Morning all.
Lb - how's things with the fires around Sydney? I saw something on a pub tv (no sound on) and it looks pretty bad.
Lucky - I suspect Ollie Kohn has noted the Welsh lock crisis and has chucked his hat in the ring. He's a Bristol boy and joined Quins from Bris about 6-7 years ago.
He's a decent enough lock, but as far as I know has not represented England at any level. Nor is he likely to at nearly 32.
He is also the co-owner of The Jolly Hog sausage company.

Apparently a Worcester lock has thrown his hat into the ring, too. Which surely the hooker should be doing.

Fine here Hound. We have been spared the worst of the heat and fire but everyone realises that may all change in the next few days as the temperatures start to climb again.
There were some small fires near the Blue Mountains but the weather has been cool here for the last 4 or 5 days. Once you go over the Great Divide it's a different story though. The Siding Springs telescopes were lucky.
The saddest thing I've heard is that they found 'bunches of kangaroos' all charred in the middle of some roads. Poor things had nowhere to go and thought that would be the best place to escape the fire. It's apparently never been seen before... some very gruesome scenes around the 'Bran.

Shame about the roos Lb.
Siding Springs is a huge space observatory; possibly the most important one on the planet. A pal, who is keen on the old star gazing, has mentioned it a couple of times.

True Hound.
The site was chosen for the clear night air. Amazing scenery around the Warrumbungles - which are the plug remnants of old volcanoes.
The ones near Parkes were part of NASA's tracking system (as in the film The Dish) but they are now building the square kilometer array which is a joint project between Australia and South Africa.
I've no idea how it works (like two eyeballs thousands of km apart?) but it all sounds very interesting after the Hubble telescope debacle.

Connacht tested their players balance by doing exercises (I think they were called vertical squats without resistance, or something like that) which showed the balance between areas of muscular control. The older players were useless and the younger players were better but nowhere near right. The risk of injury is higher without the control.

You're right, the entire bottle is very tempting but I think I'll leave that until Friday night when I don't have to be up and driving at daft o'clock the next day
Although I suspect that the students we've had through today have partaken of their fair share of and by now And I wouldn't blame them one bit
