Welcome to Season 5 of the Aviva Premiership fantasty rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (Ozzy3213) as to how the situation will be resolved.

Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (me) will remove players at it’s discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.

Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the matchday 22's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make up of your squad.

Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have a listed senior academy squad of 20 players. Players who are in the senior academy must be under 22 years of age as of 1st September 2012 (therefore must have been born on or after 1st Septmber 1990). Players who are under the age of 20 (so born after 1st September 1992) AND are in the academy of the club that you are managing in real life, DO NOT need to be listed as senior academy players as part of your 20, but are available to you in this game and cannot be poached by other clubs without paying you a fee.

Should a player not listed in your 20 senior academy players, but part of the clubs academy in real life move clubs in real life, then you will have first option of promoting him to your listed senior academy. If you choose not to take this option he will become property of the club that he moves to in real life in this game.

Transfers wrote:

  • Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.

  • Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 3 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. These players must be bid for on the Championship/National League bidding page, and each bid will be considered by me on it's own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.

  • Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by me against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.

Foreign transfers will unlimited during the off season and 2 during the season. The exact dates of the two transfer windows during the season is to be confirmed.

Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation

Compensation will be paid as follows

£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other

If a released player plays in real life for a team outside of this game he will be deemed to have returned to that team. If not then he will be deemed to have signed for a Championship side. If another manager wants to pick a released player up, they will have to bid for him in the same way as for a foreign or Championship/National League player.

Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.

Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be Heineken Cup, Amlin Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A thread will be put up for managers to name their teams on Thursdays, then on Fridays, managers will post the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.

Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.

In addition, each team must have the following:-

At least 10 England qualified players in your matchday 23, and at least 5 of those must be in your starting XV.

At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.

All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).

Failure to comply with these rules will result in forfeiting the match and a 1 league point deduction.

If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.

Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.

Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.

Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.

Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point for a first offence, two for a second offence and so on.

Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.

£1.5m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc.

Rather watch Irish/Sale and Wasps/Leinster style matches than the boring dross handed out by the Top 14 on a regular basis.

Physicality in the big games always sees us lose. Great game to watch and if wasps cut out the little mistakes we could be a very good team again. Leinster had way too much class.

Ashley Johnson is a great player - him, Masi and Wade are three of best performers in AP this year.

AJ always impressed me this season when I've seen him. Masi excellent as always. Billy V was good in his cameo. Will do well at Saracens. Wade is just electric so good with ball in hand and worries any defender in the world.

Leinster changed their game plan after realising that open game played into Wasps hands and it worked.

We just need to really improve our front row, which is where we still come a bit unstuck, we don't have any gritty type players in mould of Dallagio, Volley. Wasps definitely the best attacking team to watch these days.

Going to miss BV hugely next season.

Crusaders also played well.

Du toit is incredible. Was gutted you got him. Great options for Sa.

Reinach looks a find. Their other 9 McLeod was a big hope before and has melted.

Ab's 9 spot interesting weepu been outstanding and tj perenara a cracker and 19. Smith melted and Kerr Barlow a fine player but injured. Gibson blues reserve a talent. Ab's like England have more 9s than they can deal with.

Both nations have issues at ten nz in terms of back up and England as 1st choice.

Personally I would go Farrell ( think he is wc potential ) burns.

Nz carter then cruden. If any of those injured nz screwed. Slade is barely zebre standard. So bad it's unreal

England with may and wade would
Be so sharp.

Wade may be poor on kicks and defence but is unreal.

Both players need a platform. Leinster average pack vs Biarritz dominant vs glos.

Wasps rested players like glos and both guaranteed heino so slightly devalues challenge.

Preferred both to have played best teams.

Mat - we put out our best team yesterday, our squad is too small to rest players unfortunately.

Haskell was injured, he would have played instead of Jones, and I'd have preferred Stephen Jones to Robinson, but otherwise that's us at full strength.

Wade's pace is scary, he's been doing that for 2 seasons now and other aspects of his game are coming on very well. Remember seeing him break through into the England 7s team a few years back, don't think its a coincidence we've gone down hill since he came back to Wasps!

Robinsons kicking is awful but u look much more dangerous with him at 10 his passing is excellent. Jones controls and kicks well but doesn't get the backline moving as well. Daly should kick if Robinson plays.

I've never got why he doesn't kick Nick - if he nails them from 55metres regularly then he can surely do the same from 20metres!

Who would make people's AP team of the season? Think mine would be something like (and excuse the Wasps bias in the backline, but when they get so many tries and not have a dominant pack...);

1. Mako Vunipola
2. Schalk Brits
3. Dan Cole
4. Ed Slater/Steve Borthwick
5. Geoff Parling
6. Tom Wood/Ashley Johnson
7. Qera/Will Fraser
8. Nick Easter
9. Danny Care
10. Owen Farrell
11. Tom Varndell
12. Andrea Masi/Anthony Allen
13. Elliot Daly
14. Christian Wade
15. Mike Brown

Montpellier have got their tactics spot on here, Clermont have so many players who can make that something out of nothing and great experience in all the key positions.

Can see Clermont getting away in the second half.

Clermont wonderful and sivivatu had a great game. Fofana probably best 12
In world. His footwork is magical. Love watching him.

Bonnaire still best lineout forward going and an intelligent player. World class still.

Montpelier done well but clermont have a stupid squad. Being able to bring on ti paulo and Lapandry is unreal. Both would walk most sides.

Only weakness for clermont is that if bonnaire injured their lineout is shot as neither cud more or Hines are decent lineout options.

Vosloo would be a good buy always a menace of a 7

Just looks so shakey.

Ball not coming out well. Did that dummy throw and just seems to have lost all confidence.

Great scrummaging by him but has been a shadow of a player this year.

Has a habit of being streaky like his brother Neil. He has a season where he is unstoppable and then a season where dross.

Flannery could not get near him one season and then best disappeared.

Afoa killing mako.

As an England fan we have to face facts that with no Corbs our Lh options are light scrummaging wise

More worried about burger.

Ferris was excellent until injured in November and he seems confident about his return. His gym work looks great and he is not far off according to ulster fans and his twitter.

Play like ferris you get injured. This injury does not look like a career one. Achilles and shoulder recon are the biggies these days

He wasn't excellent, he only played a few games after returning from injury before crippling up again and wasn't playing well. I watched the 2 of those games in the Rabo.

Ulster have said he's out for season:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/21535697

Ferris has played 4 times in a 11 month according to Ulster website, that's pretty poor. Bloke must be shot.

He has been doing lots
Of boxing training as well for fitness at Barry mcguigans gym according to the ulster website.

Had my penultimate league game today.

3 ap league games left I think. Then play offs.

Will be amazed if be goes to Japan he seems so keen to play for Ireland.

Hope Zebo is back and on form as wing is problematic for lions. Ashton has been flying last 2 games back

Ashton looked good in attack but fell off tackles still.

I've heard rumblings Ferris has already signed to go to Japan but its just not been released yet. IRU offered him a pay as play but he turned it down.

I don't think he'll come back, he'll be 30 and his body is shot.

This time it was ankle and there was debris so not a bad injury.

You worry when players do shoulders
Like rocky Elsom, Palu etc.

Palu is off to Japan confirmed but he has never been same. Shame as he was a gun ball carrier.

Seen 9 super 15 players signed for Japan league this week alone.

They have started signing decent club s15 players as well. Going to get a much better league.

Hope Qera does not go there

If this is true life ban.

I once played against mountain ash ( scum valley place) and my opposite 8 spat in my face and wru have him 2 year ban with 1 suspended. It is top end of scale.

Most despicable thing going. You associate it football and diouf that horrendous Senegalese player ex Celtic and Liverpool

Can only play 2 NJQ players in XV so quality still poor. I was reading somewhere that's is super fast but not as physical so can see why Ferris fancies it, will be a wind down.

Ferris hasn't long left, I wouldn't be overly surprised if he just retired and took payout rather than Japan.

I will have money with you he plays again. You said he was finished years ago and he came back and was the star of their heino run last year.

Nonsense for me. They are increasing the njq law and also changing the qualification period to be Japan national.

Don't know if you were in to rugby when campese was playing? However at that time Japan league went strong like today.
Several Aussie internationals ended up playing for Japan.

Remember Williams the tiny quick winger who won a
Wc with Australia playing for them and a few others.

Could not happen in this day and age as can only play for one int team. However getting run of mill s15 players to qualify could be a route !

Not a good league though, half of your team will be in it by the looks of things.

Barnes, Ferris, Carter all rumoured with Kahui def off.

Barnes will Not go. Carter I reckon but apparently for 5 months so not a problem.

Kahui confirmed. If I were nz I would offer him the world to stay as they look light at back 3/ centre if any injuries. Gear and Savea in huge form but that's about it

I would rather deal in facts than rumours.

Rumours more interesting though by a distance !

I thought Barnes had confirmed?

Jane, Dagg, Gear, Savea, Smith, Kahui, Ranger, TNW

Any one of these players best English back. Depressing.

Personally I think if he does go he will go for 3-4 months and see the Japan league becoming a bit like the IPL cricket with a short burst tournament with big names and big money.

Brian Moore I think mooted the idea of a short form tournament there and the fact it spreads rugby global footprint.

Having the last World Cup In nz last time is the most negative step rugby has taken in years it should have been Japan and I will never forgive the Irish old fart who did a deal for his vote.

Look at RL its a dreadful sport because its not played widely. Australia and their league so much better than anywhere else.

Love to see union get big in Japan USA Canada Etc and IRB relax laws to allow islanders who had 1 cap for nz etc be allowed to play for their place of birth.

I am really passionate about the development of the game and have been to Romania on a coaching visit. Romania were about Argentinas level about 15 years ago. Game almost dead there now
