The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Walkabout, Covent Garden
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the original Walkabout pub in London's Covent Garden, as it is set to close its doors at the end of the month.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Mark Ella or recent birthday boys Gibson and Glas a du above the bar.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Walkabout, Covent Garden
Happy Birthday Glas.
Apart from pubs on street corners, The Walkabout in Covent Garden is one of only two pubs I know in London where you can walk in one door, walk right through the pub and exit onto a different street. In this case Maiden Lane and Henrietta St.
The other pub is Waxy O'Connors with entrances on Wardour St. and Rupert St.
A bit of useless knowledge.

Well you know so much about pubs, some of it is bound to be useless, unless you're a Pointless contestant...

I don't watch much TV, kiwi. Recently I've been watching rugby DVDs - yesterday was the 1973 Barbarians v NZ game. While there was some great rugby in that game, there were a hell of a lot of errors.
Mind you it was good to see the scrums back in those days, where the front fives engaged, the the back rows bound on, and there was no pushing before the ball went in. Plus a proper hooking contest for the ball.
Something similar implemented nowadays would correct the farce that is the modern scrum.

Pointless is a quiz show yeah. In direct competition to The Chase, which is far superior (how I miss it).

Look at France v Australia 1987 WC semi final. Error strewn but compelling attack minded rugby from both sides. It came from either side being able to compete for the ball at ALL times.

Kidney, no doubt. He takes excellent resources and ends up with Poopie. Osbourne has Poopie resources, stirs it a bit and ends up with stirred Poopie. Kidney's rivals could do a better job. Osbourne's rivals would stir the Poopie a different way but would end up with the same Poopie.

It was. They film it in Cardiff, hence his tweet:

I agree Lucky, especially since the protagonists are on Twitter. There are lots of reg conversations on there. They wouldn't have been possible without the pubs of course, but twitter has taken over.

See I don't get that.. Twitter to me is clearly a facility for insecure, attention seeking naval gazers with an inflated sense of self importance to spout their uneducated opinions to fellow deluded cyber reality jugglers.
No idea why it would appeal to 606V2 users?

That's why I never signed up Rodders. However once coerced by Hobo I have to say its been great. Social networks reflect quite accurately your personality in the people you chose to contact and who chose to contact you. I mean you can put photos of your knob on it and swear a lot or be really offensive to people you don't know if you want, but you don't have to. It's what you make of it

Evening all.
Glas,
Sorry you had a horrible day. Maybe you are feeling chirpy because it's over?
I presume you have heard of Carwyn James?
Did you know he had a Rugby Tournament named in his honour?

Have you? Carwyn James is a hero of my father's. I've listened to him eulogise about him for decades. He coached the Lions in NZ in 1971 and the Babaas and Llanelli in their wins against the All Blacks. He was born in the same small village as Barry John.

Sorry Glas.

I will admit I knew nothing of the man until the wee fella told me he is playing in the tournament this year. When I found out about him I thought you would be interested.

Could be interesting.

Think the Drosspreys v Dragqueens game will be a little one sided to be fair

I've just seen the team, Rev. I'd heard Toby was starting on the bench and assumed it was because they were sticking with Ieuan Jones, but we're playing Lewis Evans at eight. Also, I though Ross Wardle was a centre, but he's on the wing.

If that's your bag
Mrs P, James was a tortured genius. A fantastic player in the shadow of Cliff Morgan, but an amazing cerebral coach who had a feud with the WRU and never coached Wales. He still has a massive cultural relevance in this part of Wales.

MrsP, they're saying 20-40 cms for high ground here, 10-20 cms at lower levels. The wind is howling. I should probably fire up the wood burner, the smoke will be pulled straight up the chimney!
The meeting went well thank you. He needs someone in the short-term who can build databases for him, which I can't do, and then long-term he needs someone to update his databases and website, which I can do We're keeping in touch and meeting again in a couple of months and will see from there. It was all very positive and I'm pretty confident that something good will come of it.

Yes. He was a fighter pilot, a politician, a masterful outside half, a bard, a teacher in a public school, a heavy smoker, asthmatic, suffering terrible eczema and struggling with his sexuality in the massively macho world of Rugby in the industrial south west Wales of the mid 20th Century. He stood for Plaid Cymru in Llanelli. He took on the WRU and the Western Mail.

Well, he has a Rugby Tournamant named after him in Italy and the wee fella is playing in it.
I was surprised to see the name of the Tournament was such a Welsh one. That was what made me check out the background.

Lucky - I saw that Lydiate was likely to be fit for next weekend's game. Good news for The Dragons then.
I've been impressed with some of The Dragons' handling this season, esp. v Wasps in the Amlin. There was one other game I saw and they looked ok in that too. A bit error prone at times though.
