The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Walkabout, Covent Garden
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the original Walkabout pub in London's Covent Garden, as it is set to close its doors at the end of the month.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Mark Ella or recent birthday boys Gibson and Glas a du above the bar.

Afternoon All
I actually liked Gerry Adams' statement yesterday. I thought it was honest and he wasn't really sl@gging her off. Anyway, if anyone cares for my view, read what I posted on the appropriate thread in the News & Current Affairs section....although it seemed to get lost...
Meanwhile, in Rugbyland, George North has finalised his move to Northampton...

North to Northampton is an excellent move for him, Wales, the Scarlets, the Jeff and the Saints. It's not great for the Rabo, but ho-hum

I think you're majorly stretching it to say its a good move for the Scarlets. Another step away from being a genuine contender for the Heineken Cup.

But they aren't anyway. They can spread his wages over five young players. They have got good youngsters coming in every year. If their current MO whilst they wean themselves off the WRU is as a feeder for the bigger European clubs then so be it.

I think it's good for Welsh rugby in general. It's going to put more pressure on the two sides to sort it out.
By the rumblings though, it's gonna take more than losing North to stop the toys being thrown out of the respective prams.

I'm just glad I don't hunch my shoulders involuntarily every time I go outside. Also, we need the rain, it's been so dry the last month or so. Makes for muddier dog walks, but so be it!

How is Lola? Fully grown now?
I can just imagine the soft snout hovering just above the mud and lush surroundings when you take her out for a walk on that hill above town.

She won't grow much more now. A bloke at the vet's yesterday said they stop growing at 18 months, and she's 16 months. I'm lucky, some dogs love mud and will dive into the nearest puddle, but Lola avoids it if she can.

Notch - well, they're not mincing their words there! Unusual for a club to be so openly critical about ticket touting. A cynic might say sour grapes...
In other news I see Tommy is in for the Ulster game at the weekend. Woohoo!

Yep, likely to be back in the Ulster 14 jersey where he belongs- I hope next season is a better one for him with injury and he has a strong finish for this year.

(Note, mentioning "that" movie is one way to cause a riot down on the the Golf board).
I personally find watching golf even more boring than watching tennis. And I'm rubbish at playing both.

Enjoy Cari.
Evening pub. My phone conked out again yesterday, but is now back working. Time for an upgrade though.
My local will be invaded by footy fans at the weekend. I'll be hoping to watch Ealing clinch the National League 1 title on Sat against prop's avowed enemies Cinderford.
Sunday will see Man City fans in my local. Man Utd fans are bad enough when they come to London, but the last time they were here one of their 'fans' threatened to stab everyone.
It could be Ealing again for televised rugby

Evening all,
Just dropped Mum off at the airport. She's going on 4 day/180km bike ride on the old Otago train line (disused... they have a dirt road beside with accommodation huts along the way) About 10 of them... Kiwi relos. I would love to be there; maybe next time.
Last weekend I was driving near Parramatta Rd when this huge huntsman spider went past my face (on outside of window). Nearly had a heart attack! Brother said - don't freak out, it will probably have fallen onto the busy road... won't last 30 secs.
Fast forward to this morning. I stayed overnight in leafy Lindfield. I open the boot to chuck the lawn mower / chainsaw in and lo and behold... there is my massive spider friend! Because it was cool it was a bit slow. Grabbed a stick and tossed it in into the neighbour's jungle. I get back to my new home, unpack the lawn mower... and there is the juiciest looking earth worm writhing around.
So one is on the up in society... the other a step down in class. Good luck to them both.
(it would be like going from Hampstead Heaf to Streatham Common for the worm, vice versa for the spider)

Ya'alright swanny.
We were using that stuff back in the 70s to scrub up walls prior to painting them. Very effective.
I'm going to totally redo my place over the next few months.

Evening LB, evening Hound,
Good on your mam LB, hope she has a great trip!
I'm fine Hound just got lots going on I've never used sugar soap before but it's fab! Just turning the spare room into an office for me; re-decoration has turned into new floorboards, new radiator, new carpet, and finally re-decoration!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Walkabout, Covent Garden
G'day LB. One of our Lions tour party is terrified of spiders. We (London based tourists) met up with stag on Monday and he reckoned she should only be worried on the Cairns excursion.
I'm ok with spiders, but then again we don't have any venomous ones here. Here I will routinely scoop them out of the bath or sink and put them outside. Then they will try and climb 'spider Everest' all the way back up the pipes into the warmth.
Fascinating creatures. Especially when you find a web and flick a bit of leaf into it, watch them scurry down the web and investigate the 'catch'. Then they turf it out of the web when they realise it's not food (and repair the web if necessary) and scurry back to their hiding place.
I'm fine handling snakes too.

They slow down in autumn/winter and go into their little hiding holes or hibernate. Still, you don't want to disturb them if possible.
Lots of redbacks here (new place... haven't seen any yet but I can 'feel' their presence) but I don't think there'll be many funnel webs.
A couple of Wasps, Hound.
Only smallish ones though wearing tiny black & yellow scarves. You're right. They are very well behaved fans!
Just mowed the back yard. Hard yakka. The little old ladies planted too many trees... and put down half a dozen curvy brick footpaths. Slippery red berries (probably poisonous?) on one patch of grass. Calves are bursting. I'm pretty unfit after living in an apartment.
Having an energy drink before I attack the front bit. Need to start earlier next time. Too hot at 10:30am.

Luckless,
Hate to disappoint you, but our (Border Collie x Saluki) is now 21 months old and has just put on a growth spurt. I discovered this when I was preparing Easter Sunday dinner - leg of lamb marinaded in a yogurt and spice mix. I went to the freezer to get the chillies (having first checked that the meat was well out of her reach); abandoned search in freezer when I heard the dish crash to the floor in the kitchen.
Fortunately the noise of the dish breaking on the flagstone floor frightened her and she ran away - I was able to rescue Easter dinner (but had to pick off all the splinters from the dish ...) She has very definitely grown in the last month.

Thanks, Kia. I had heard from another dog owner that some dogs aren't fully grown until they're three. We saw Lola's mother when we went to collect her, she was the American bulldog, the bigger of the two breeds, so I know she won't get any bigger than that.
Hound, I agree with you about spiders. They're incredible things and so different from us. We should thank our lucky stars we're so much bigger than they are, otherwise we wouldn't stand a chance!
Good luck with the rest of the gardening, Breaker!

That's 2 in one year (form different sisters) isn't it?
Congratulations to them, the families, yourself and Lola.
She'll have another playmate in the coming years, no? (once the full-grown puppy fear factor is overcome....)
Wonderful news, mate.
