CSK won the toss and are batting. Albie is back and Nannes goes out. PW have brought in Tirumalaseti Suman in place of Mithun Manhas

The in-form Mike Hussey goes early, PW's expensive signing Kane Richardson making an early impact on the game here.

Early struggles for CSK. 10-1 after 4 overs. Lost a big early wicket, and the scoreboard hasn't gone anywhere.

CSK 29-2 after the 6 overs of powerplay. The openers are back in the hut. Badrinath and Raina with a rescue job at hand.

Re: "The IPL"...Edition_6
Pune for me have really underperformed. With their personnel they should be fighting for the play-off spots, not languishing at the foot of the table. They've been hindered by terrible team selections and tactics, and poor execution of basic plans.
KKR and DD have also underperformed, whilst the Sunrisers and Rajastan have exceeded expectations.
As things stand it seems that CSK and RCB will get through, and Mumbai seem to have found some momentum at the right time. Final spot between Rajastan, Sunrisers and possibly Punjab.
A notable feature has been the number of captains who are underperforming.
A funny feature is Glenn Maxwell not getting a game: he is not a bad player and would probably make a few starting XIs but very similar to Pollard (albeit a better fielder, and more attacking bowler - but not by so much that it makes much difference) and there is only room for one of them in the side.

Re: "The IPL"...Edition_6
MS Dhoni made a significant power impact to push the CSK total with a 16 ball 45 that let them score 163 and then PW completely lost their way with the bat. Steve Smith offered some resistance and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kane Richardson offered some useful lower order runs that reduced the damage to the Net RR. Eventually CSK won by 36 runs to maintain their top spot in the points table.

Steve Smith should be batting higher for Pune...also Rahul Sharma shouldnt open the bowling for them...he is crucial in the middle overs.

Re: "The IPL"...Edition_6
Think the opening move with Rahul Sharma was specific for Huseey. Not that he has a particular weakness against spin, they would have hoped that somehow catch him off guard, getting him up front is very important. He just bowled the one over, fair enough for me.
Can't understand them going on and on with Ashok Dinda for ever. Perhaps they should give a chance to the J&K all-rounder Parwez Rasool at some point.

Pune continue to suck....as CSK continue to roll like a well oiled German machine.
the teams with long standing captains....and settled combinations for a few years are doing well.
Isa Guha makes a good point on ITV.......the standard of fielding from Indian players is electric in this IPL.
Stewart says English counties are afraid of the Franchise model...for the fear it will swallow the county sytems

Re: "The IPL"...Edition_6
Rahul Sharma has to first make himself a regular in his Ranji side. He's nowhere near test class at the moment. He doesn't really turn it much, if you have to be successful as a leggy without turning it big, then you have to be Anil Kumble. Sharma hasn't really shown anything much at the first class level to suggest in terms of ability or temperament that he would take after the great man. The only real common thing is that they both are tall.CF wrote:Wouldnt mind seeing Rahul Sharma play a test match some point in the future....very tall would extract bounce with ease..

scahin's pre-emptive flailing throuhg the line of the ball didn't work for too long....
because he doesn't have the reflexes to react to sharp swing or movement.
and then he pretends like the ball kep low when it was hitting the top of the stump.

Rohit Sharma has been among runs, MI would need their captain to produce the goods yet again, in the company of Dwayne Smith who also has been doing well in the last few matches.

Don't think Rahul Sharma has a lot going for him TBH. The better teams have played him fairly comfortably even here, although he's mostly done ok.
Pune have been dreadful. Simple gameplans not being used effectively, moving Wright up to open, or Smith up the order is not going to change the fact that Dinda apart from in one match has been terrible at the death, half the side don't know how to run between the wickets, and the ground fielding, apart from Smith and Wright is pub standard.

Strange from Sangakkara, Darren Sammy hasn't bowled an over as yet. Sammy's bowling is better than his batting particularly in this format, he's not really a player who can be picked only for his batting.

Expensive last over from Perera, and MI end up with 129-4. Not a big total, but the track is on the slower side, and on such tracks, we've seen lesser totals defended in this IPL. But do MI have the bowlers? Slinga Malinga is a handful on any track, and Ojha is Handy. Harbhajan too has been finding the going a bit easier in recent days.

Sangakkara have to maintain a decent tempo throughout his innings. He has been struggling to get going after a few starts as he was not able to move through the gears quickly.

Sangakkara making Harbhajan look like his pre-2008 self. More of Sanga's doing, coupled with a good ball or 2 from Harbhajan. And he took the single of the last ball of the over, the only run in that. Not looking good for SH.

Boundray of the first ball, then Sanga fails to score of the next 3. Shikhar Dhawan, who looked good so far, has been off strike now for 10 balls. Only 5 runs have come during that time, pressure might get to him.

Harbhajan Singh protests against Sanga's insult of his recent self, bowls a filthy rubbish short ball that even Sanga couldn't help smash away for 4. And one more!. Similar ball from Harbhajan, and Sanga obliges yet again.

Eventully in the tussle of mediocrity, Kumar Sangakkara emerges the winner against Harbhajan. Harbhajan continued to bowl poorly in his 3rd over as well, of the last ball, another ordinary one, Sanga played a nothing, an indecisive half-push to offer a return catch. Has been quite a horrible IPL season for Sangakkara. Quinton de Kock didn't take his opportunity in the 3 games he played. Perhaps they should give him a few more chances, or go back to White and get Parthiv or someone to keep.

Dhawan that we see in 2013 is mature......shredded a pretty world class Mumbai attack apart without slogging and overt hiting.
The good thing from an Indian POV is that he can play long innings in his attacking vein without overt slogging....anbd may be a left handed replacement of Sehwag as an opener.
now that he is back...every 3rd game he will play a long inning for Hyderabad...and take them throuhg.
Mumbai walloped
Hanuman Vihari has looked neat and composed

Impressed with Dhawan.
Harbajhan really bowled utter tripe.
Pollard had his second poor game in a row - he can be very lazy still.

Fine win for SH. CSK are more comfortable than anyone else as far as chances of making the playoff are concerned. Interesting battle developing between, RCB, RR, SH and MI for the remaining positions.

KKR meanwhile, ended up scoring 136-7 in their 20 overs. After a top order collapse, useful contributions from Rajat Bhatia, Sumit Narwal and Brett Lee helped them recover to a decent total. DD are 19 without loss at the moment. Sehwag just had a life, Gambhir dropping an easy chance of Lee.

DD 100-2 after 15. They are done with Sunil Narine. Delt with safely, although he went for only 14 in his 4 overs.

KKR continue to miss chances. Sehwag was dropped by Gambhir tut they got away with that without much damage. David Warner then was missed when Bisla failed to complete a stumping, and then Kallis put down a chance and helped it over the boundary, and now Sumit Narwal drops Chand. DD 114-2 after 16.

DD win by 7 wickets. David Warner in the middle order is working for them. He had his share of luck today, but a match-winning hand from him yet again.

Re: "The IPL"...Edition_6
warner has had a good last few games.
Delhi if they sort out their top order batting....can still pose a comeback.
evey team has about 6 games left...and I would say otehr than Pune every one has a theoritical chance

Dhoni won the toss and an unchanged CSK are batting. As for KXIP, Pomersbach in for Mahmood, and Satish comes in for Manan Vorah.

Saha trying too many shots up front and now he's gone. A run a ball 18 from him, Awana with the wicket, and CSK are 27-1.

CSK 132-3 after 16. Dhoni was run out following a superb fielding effort, so the job of finishing up well is down to Albie Morkel and Suresh Raina and the rest.

Hundred for Suresh Raina, (100 not out of 53 balls), and CSK finish with 186-4.
