As for 35, Cypriens a good player, really wouldn't be adverse to Geno or T'eo

Lol at Dallas and Chicago!
Vikings gave up 4 picks to move up 13 spots, and the 49ers gave up 1 to move 13 spots ... Trent Baalke is the man!
Happy enough with Reid, especially as it hasn't cost us much to get him.
Best pick in the draft value wise looks to be Star Lotulelei to the Panthers, not so sure why Jets fans were booing the Sheldon Richardson pick either!
Worst value for me is undoubtedly Frederick to the Cowboys. Fairly sure he was seen as a fringe 2nd/3rd round type of guy. I know they need offensive line help, but surely there were better interior linemen available

The 49ers gave up 2, their first also.
As for value, I can't look past Sharrif Floyd at 23.

Re: NFL Draft 2013 discussion
Happy with the raiders pick, now we need to continue to improve that front line of the defense
Picking up arguably the best cb available is a great move considering how bad our secondary was, but lack of talent aside that was also down to the fact we gave opposing QBs all the time in the world to make their throws and this still needs to be addressed. We could have the best CBs in the league but if we ain't rushing the passer we'll still get burnt

I'm still not too sure why the Jets didn't go offence with either of there two picks, although there is a deep class.
Milliner I'm still not too sure about. There secondary was still very good without Revis last year, and they have more needs elsewhere imo

Re: NFL Draft 2013 discussion
Yeah, I didn't think they really needed a corner either. Defensive tackle was a good choice. Milliner could be very good but I'm unsure whether he is really needed there.
I like Datone Jones for the Packers. If he comes off then it should really help the d-line and the secondary as a result.
Winners for me are the Vikings. 3 quality players for the Vikings. I know they gave up quite a number of picks for Patterson but now they have him and Jennings, Rudolph, Peterson, a good o-line and what should be an improved defence. They were a surprise playoff team this year but they have a very good chance of challenging again.
I didn't particularly like the Cowboys pick, but if they can get someone else good with the extra pick the trade will have been worth it.
I took Mingo with the Bengals in the mock but I still have doubts about him, especially 6th overall.

Re: NFL Draft 2013 discussion
I feel for Geno Smith, I don't think anyone expected him to drop out of the first round (EJ Manuel is a huge risk). I hope the Jaguars put him out out of his misery early in the second round....
I sat "misery" but he's still going to be earning millions and probably earn the starting QB place, so not all that bad - just a bit embarrassing i guess...
Looking forward to seeing my Redskins hopefully pick up a solid CB and WR in the coming rounds.

Re: NFL Draft 2013 discussion
The Reid pick is one I'm caught in two minds about. I would have jumped with joy if you told me he's coming after the 2011 season but last year worries me. I think he is the most talented safety in the draft but that doesn't always mean everything. I think I will come around to loving this pick, just happy it isn't Rhodes or Ertz.
Vikings and Titans are my two other mini loves and I think they drafted incredibly well. Hate the Bills and Dolphins picks.
Love the fact we also gave up only one third to move half way up the first round. I'd trade our 34 for a qb needy team and move down 4 or 5 places. We could get third back and offer two thirds for a second. In this deep a draft, three seconds would be incredible!

Yeah, I wasn't sure where that logic came from really. Also the 49ers gave up 2.

I blame the rest of the NFL for me being unhappy with the Mingo pick, everybody's fault for not trading with us.

Re: NFL Draft 2013 discussion
Very happy with our first round, Floyd seems a steal at 23, added two other potentially very good players in positions of need! Decent offseason work by Spielman, if only he'd kept Winfield. Also, I wonder what we're going to do at the MLB position, probably won't be able to draft a starter with our next pick in the 4th round, Urlacher maybe?

No chance after the reports that came out this week. Reid was pencilled to go between 18-23 from a lot of scouts. Also Baalke wouldn't have traded up unless he knew another team was preparing to take Reid

no but I know every GM knows the draft range of a player, Also I said I'd bring this up if it happened. I told you Eagles would take a tackle when I did a mock ages ago and you said it would be terrible move..............................

I reserve the right to change my mind. You also had Lane Johnson going first no
Every GM has a range they like a player in. Everything else is misinformation. In this case the 49ers believed the reports enough to jump up, rightly or wrongly. Not through clairvoyant ability or reading leaves.

Exactly, niner is making it sound like the other teams were all kind enough to send the 49ers a lovely PDF of their draft boards. Whether right or wrong they've got a tonne of picks and only gave up a 3rd even if he would have been their at 31 it's not a huge price to pay if they had even a little doubt about him being there.GSC wrote:Every GM has a range they like a player in. Yes, but I didn't think it would happen, like I said at time, was just making a point that I think he will end up best tackle in draft. I did about ten other mocks since in different places where I had Joeckel or Fisher first. But I think you won a watch with Johnson tbh, one of the best picks of last night imo

Re: NFL Draft 2013 discussion
If you want 2 other examples from yesterday, the Dolphins jumped to 3 because they believed Chip wanted to reunite with Dion, rightly or wrongly.
Bills took Manuel at 16 because they believed reports about a couple of teams coming back into the first for him.
Its the culmination of months of 31 teams (Dallas excluded) all trying to outbluff each other.

Re: NFL Draft 2013 discussion
And ultimately at the end of the day, its getting a good player that counts, not where you take him. Vikings are getting A+s while the Browns are getting questioned about Mingo at 6.
In 3 years if Mingo has 40+ sacks and Floyd, Rhodes and Patterson are all so so players, who had the better first round?

I think if the Eagles took Jordan, I'd be disappointed if I were a fan. Lots of potential but I saw a lot of Oregon and he never struck me as a top five pick, maybe thats because he was barely on the field though

Didn't think it was a reunion that was likely to happen. Had it Fisher/Joeckel>Johnson>Star>Jordan
In recent years the trend is that college coaches don't take their guys anyway. Kelly never had the chance in the end, but Marrone chose Manuel

Don't know who said lol about Chicago, it seems like it's a reach considering how he's valued on draft sites but your O-line has been letting you down for years so I can't really fault the pick.

Both the Giants and Bears reached a tad I think. Cowboys just ****ed up I think and moved back too far

Heard a rumour Garrett wanted to stay put at 18 and take BPA but Jerruh took the trade.
Also that Patterson was their last player left with a first round grade so they couldn't trade out again and had to take someone they had a 2nd round grade on.

Didn't mind mind the trading down part
But if Fredricks was who we wanted we should have traded out of the first altogether
Could have got more picks and still got Fredricks mid 2nd

Yeah, the trade down wasn't a bad move, they just went too far and had to settle.
Don't really think there was a way out of 31 for Dallas.

At least the interior line was a position of need
Having given Romo all that money we might as well keep him upright
Just hope Jerry can do better tonight
Be interesting to see who he wastes the extra pick on to see the true value of the trade

Re: NFL Draft 2013 discussion
Teams I think reached:
Rams (Austin) - Bills got a good bunch of picks out of them for #8, Austin does give them the chance to be creative on the offense but I don't see him being Bradford's 'go to' guy and they're still a very young group of receivers in St Louis.
Chargers - I'm sorry taking a RT at #11 is bad.
Raiders - I know Hayden had apparently been climbing up draft boards of late but who had heard of him until the last couple of weeks? Plus if you can't pressure a QB or stop the run your CB's don't matter.
49ers - I think Reid had been falling down draft boards recently, had a poor year at LSU (something to do with losing Claiborne and Mathieu maybe?) still with that front 7 he get's a pretty easy job.
Giants/Bears - Both have expensive quarterbacks so obviously it's important to protect them but feel these guys could have been available later though without trade offers can see why they wouldn't risk it.
Cowboys - I don't think this needs explaining, but while some have said he's better than Konz and Zeitler from last year and he's an O-lineman coming out of Wisconsin so he's not going to be terrible I struggle to see him not being available in the second and they got terrible value for their pick from SF, wonder if they were hoping to get a nice few picks for Geno from somebody?
Jaguars - This one isn't really a reach there's no doubt Joeckel is a talented player, but you've spent the #2 and #8 picks on OT's in the last 5 drafts and now one of them has to play at RT which I don't think either of them have done before. As I said with SD taking Fluker I just think it's too high for an RT, luckily for them there's still depth elsewhere in this draft class but I think this was a poor choice.

Oh also the Rams with Ogletree but only because of off the field issues with Brown and Minter still there.

Jeff Fisher taking a prospect with red flags isn't a reach, its destiny.
If Tavon Austin had shot up a bank or something he'd have traded his whole draft for him

Geno Smith has decided to come back to New York for the draft.
Jacksonville told him hes going #33?

Yeah I mean no other team in the draft could possibly have said they're taking him. If Joeckel then Geno was always their plan think they took a pretty big gamble, but fair play it's paid off.Olly wrote:Must be GSC, would be the end of Gabbert one would think

I mean, theoretically speaking, if hes coming back he must have some kind of assurance he isn't going to be there very long or hes just going to have more spotlight.
The only teams high that would want a QB would be Jacksonville and Philly since no trades have been completed.

Beyond that, I think the 49ers will probably add Ertz to replace Delanie Walker in their 2 TE sets.
Eagles then picking between Cyprien, a CB or T'eo/Brown I think.
Lions might find it hard to pass on Hunter.

Makes more sense for Smith to stick around if the team making overtures to him plays next door to New York

You're right they might, but I still think they need to go DB.GSC wrote:Lions might find it hard to pass on Hunter.
Buffalo going WR at #41?

Its reasonably deep on DBs from here on out for Detroit, they seem determined to win via offense, and take their chances with their pass rush

That said, with Allen, Peppers and Matthews in the division they better find some protection

Just read apparently we had an offer for the 6th pick, assume it was from St. Louis.
