Hard with Beckham. At times he was absolutely world class, other times he wasnt. His crossing was insanely good, never seen anyone better. The raking curling crosses he hit from deep in the season Dwight Yorke was on fire for United were perfect. That England Greece game is the best performance from an England player in my lifetime. Hes an English great if not a world great

This week gets worse and worse. Football is falling apart!
Beckham retiring is deeply upsetting. i think every person i follow on twitter has tweeted there dissapointment.
If i wake up and Giggs has retired tomorrow, im calling it on Football!

Great guy, great ambassador for football and the UK. His passing range was sublime. Yes he couldn't take on 4 guys on the wing and leave them for dead. That wasn't his skill. But I doubt I have seen a better crosser of the ball in my time of watching football. Give him half a yard on the wing and you can be sure a dangerous cross will be sent over.
Huge passion when playing for England and importantly, a winning mentality.
What a playa also.

This is devastating for me. Last one to go will be Giggs and then the players that grew up playing as I grew up watching will be all gone. Maybe its just that they came through exactly when I got into football so its the dying embers of my youth fading away. Especially as a really good batch came through quite similar timing, with the young United lads and Owen too, overseen by the recurring general of football Ferguson. And now only Ryan remains.

I do hope West Ham take some of Wigans squad. Maloney is my biggest desire, then McArthur and McCarthy are both quality. Figueroa on a free would be nice, wouldnt mind Kone or Al Habsi cheap either

McCarthy and Maloney would be ones I'd love to have at Norwich from Wigan.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread Part 6
I think Beckham suffers because of his fame and fortune, people tend to forget that he was actually a very good player. I think if his brand wasn't as big as it is, he'd weirdly be considered a better footballer, particularly in England. I think even at 38 he's been pretty good, and he's always put in 100%, he's always had success wherever he has been but I'm sure he'd trade it all in for success with England, one of the few players left who actually seemed to love playing for England.

Beckhams a good player who's capable of great performances on his day.
I can't put him in the great tier, because for me, hes never been up there with the best.

I bet Waddle would claim his mate Hoddle was one of the greatest players of all time but there's nothing Hoddle could do that Beckham didn't.
Plenty Beckham could and did do more than Hoddle not least run, tackle and try his hardest 100% of the time.
Can't think of many if any other premiership players that would have the skill let alone the audacity to score from their own half at such a young age.
Legend.

Wasnt as young.
Waddle said top 1000 of the last 40 years. He still would be in my book but I guess there is more room to debate there.
Le Fondre would be worth a place on the bench for anyone outside the top 8. That goal record off the bench is not to be sniffed at. Id take Readings keeper too, whilst I think there are a few from QPR who could come back strong again in a decent squad away from that mess. If Remy is found innocent id certainly take him

A slight exaggeration, but I do see his point. Beckham parlayed a moderate amount of talent into a small empire, but he wasn't a great player.

FF talking some sense on Mancini. Harsh to be sacked, but I can see him being a massive pain to deal with and poor man management at times.

I never thought he was a particularly good manager. His man management, to me, was the second worst I've ever seen after Domenech(?) at France

His record against Utd and most of the other big teams was very good I think but City seemed to struggle with the "smaller" teams at times. He's definitely one of the strangest managers I've seen - couldn't manage in Europe to save himself (literally!!).
I don't know too much about Pellegrini so I can't comment on whether he'll succeed or not, but of course I hope he doesn't

Some of the criticism of Pellegrini makes me laugh.
Setting a RM points record only being good enough for 2nd is his fault obviously.
