All he had to do was walk around the ring for a bit, and he's won

People questioned the heart of Ortiz when he quit after a broken jaw, this guy has quit and is blaming a hand injury. Pathetic.

Very odd. Okay Burns had taken control but all Gonzalez had to do was see out the last 3 rounds and you feel sure he would have won.

Nick Hawling please remove your head from the backside of Ricky Burns? Show of character, he got a very lucky escape because his opponent has no heart.

Massive credit to Burns. I have been a fierce critic of his, but he is a credit to boxing.

Boring f@rt outside the ring, but Ricky "Mr Personality" Burns is something else inside the ring.

i agree. Even in the 2 rounds that Gonzalez took off as a rest Burns landed nothing and was chasing air. Very strange to just quit when you are winning so easily.

I don't think it was an injury it seemed that Gonzalez had just had enough. Look at his trainer's reaction - he was shocked which he wouldn't have been if he knew of an injury.

He's moving his right hand fine there, bottle job

He gassed and then just happened to "break his hand", what a coincidence

Vasquez beats Burns easy as does Abril

I have to say burn's conditioning to come out as strong as he did after the 7th was impressive

Burns did nothing in that fight. It reminded me of an episode of the simpsons when Homer became a boxer and won all of his fights because he let his opponents just punch him in the head until they got tired and quit lol

You'll be sure that Hearn won't be ringing that team in the near future for a rematch

Diver, rightly Hearn gets credit but in reality his only top level fighters are Froch (not the best in his division) and Haye (who hasn't fought for him yet and is best of the rest in heavyweight).

After that we have to give credit to people like Mayweather and Martinez who fight on with a broken hand for the majority of the fight.

He was giving Burns a boxing lesson up until then.

Don't understand why he quit, but he clearly lost something after the 7th round.

Very odd.

I don't buy a fix as Gonzalez put too much into the other rounds to suggest he was in Scotland for a dive.

Also, he landed plenty of huge shots so it would have been a rubbish attempt at a fix if he'd knocked Burns out.

Who knows? But if you're getting paid to lose, a bad way of doing it would be do be in front and then quit on your stool.

I would imagine the Hearns would have a better plan in place than that.

to be honest it never looked like ring rust, it looked like he was being totally outclassed by a better boxer.

Cannot believe the guy quit on his stool when he was winning so easily.

Why the hell would you quit on your stool if you were at least 5 ahead, unhurt etc and going for a world title fight.

Offered a million to quit mid fight imo.

Disagree there Ent, many guys would have been knocked out by some of the shots he hit Burns with... That's not the behaviour of a fix.

As someone said, he would have been gutted had those big punches in the 7th stopped burns.

I cant really work out how people say that, these guys are very brave people and take alot of punishment, only they know if they can continue or not and its their lives and likelihood so wont quite easy. Ortiz was right to quit with his jaw broken a lodged open. Dont see Ortiz as a quitter at all. If he was a quitter he would not still be boxing.
