Leeds fans liked Lichaj too, I think hes a cracking signing for a Championship side and a good sign that the manager is working early

I think we offered a better deal than Leeds. Which ain't a great sign for their owners that are kinda apparently broke.

Not in my opinion. Central midfield is the key for Chelsea and Gundogan would be a great addition.
Definitely. I'm not a huge fan of either, but I think for strikers that just need to put the ball in the back of the net, which is all Chelsea need, those two would be perfect.
If Lewandowski does manage to force a move to Bayern, Gomez should be available for about £20-25 million, Higuain I imagine for around the same price should they sign another forward. That's half of what Cavani is going for, and is he significantly better than those two? I doubt it.

I think Forest pay quite high wages though mate, for instance apparently you have offered Lopez a better contract than we have

Leeds are fairly skint though. That's why they sell all their best players to us for bugger all, and replace them with Luke Varney on a free lol

Just goes to show what a state our game is in , i read that Crystal Palace inquired about Jordan Rhodes of Blackburn but were put off by his £45,000 a week wages !
To put that in context in comparison Robert Lewandowski earns £40,000 a week at Borussia Dortmund

I just saw this written on the BBC Sportsday page.
"Earlier we heard from Napoli striker Edinson Cavani's mother about the Uruguay international's future - now his father has been having his say.
"Cavani's intention is to play for Real Madrid," Luis Cavani told Spanish newspaper Futboleros. "He is excited about it and is very willing to see it through. He has told the family in private that he wants to join Real Madrid but if he declares it publicly it will annoy Napoli."

As a Liverpool fan, I'm hoping this is true, as the rumours also saying that if Real Madrid get Cavani or Bale, Suarez won't come. Then I think if Bayern can get Lewandowski, Suarez is pretty safe. Atletico Madrid are the only threat then I'd say.

I dont want to talk about Villa, the insistence on buying youth makes me angry. Arsene Wenger could even see that that Villa side needs some experience in it.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Yeah, heard that this morning. A year ago, I would of been annoyed if he left, somewhat different now. He was poor in the second half of last season and just had no command or impact in the centre of midfield like he usually does. The fee is apparently €16.5 million, which is around £14m. That in my opinion for a player of 27 and who was bought for £4m two years ago is very good business, something we should of done with Tiote last summer when he was in high demand. Don't think Ashley will make the same mistake twice. Just important to bring in quality to replace Yohan.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Liverpool are close to signing Mignolet according to BBC Sport
If I was a Toon fan I'd be pretty apprehensive letting Cabaye go. May have had a poor second half of the season, but he's still a class player. It'll be hard to replace him imo

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I worry for Liverpool too. Aspas, Toure and possibly Mignolet is not going to take them to the next level. Tough job there for Rodgers and possibly without Suarez. So is that Reina to Barcelona confirmed then?
As for Cabaye, yeah, he's a great player but his form dropped and he's already stated his desire to play somewhere else and get back in the Champions League at some point. He's 27 and in demand, as I said, Ashley will not make the same financial mistake again and miss out on this business, however good a player Yohan is. We will miss him but we have to trust the club to bring in quality replacements and hopefully a British one. At least Coloccini is staying put it appears.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Liverpool have been quite heavily linked with Mkhitaryan which would be a quality signing.
Not sure what this means for Reina. Valdes said he would honour the last year of his Barca contract.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Shakhtar selling Fernandinho and then Mkhitaryan would be surprising, seeing as they sold Willian too last season. Can't honestly see that happening.
Yeah, I heard Valdes saying he would stay another season but I'm sure Barcelona will push him out the door, if they know, Reina is available. Can't see Mignolet accepting a deal to join Liverpool without be assured of a first team place. He's only moving because he wants to be at a higher profile club, playing regularly to compete with Courtois for Belgium's No.1 place ahead of the World Cup.

I really don't think Mignolet is a significant improvement on Reina. Barcelona better be paying more for Reina than we are for Mignolet.

I think Shakhtar will sell Mkhitaryan for sure. His stock is now at it's highest, if someone pays what they want, they'll sell on, and sign up some young kid to be the next one they sell for 20 odd million down the line. They got themselves a fairly handy business model

Southampton have signed Dejan Lovern, now that is a top signing. Can really see them doing well next season, wouldn't even class them as relegation candidates.

Going on last year, I don't think any clubs are safe. Everybody from 10th downwards was still at risk of going down with 5 games to go.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I was surprised it was reported to be only €16.5 million or £14m for Cabaye, probably why we've rejected it and denied the story. It will only be a matter of time though. With Monaco, PSG, Roma and possibly Man U interested, Ashley will just play the waiting game and keep the fee increasing to around the £20m mark and in doing so, give the club time to act and find a suitable replacement. I'm already readying myself to say 'au revoir' to Yohan.
@6 fingered tractor boy - I can't see Liverpool getting this Mkhitaryan because why would Shakhtar be selling their best players suddenly? If I'm wrong, I would be surprised and I will give it to you that's for sure. I worry for Liverpool though from the signings I've seen, no chance of top 4 next season in my opinion and losing Suarez and Reina is hardly the direction the club needs to go to challenge. Agree with Crimey, I think the top clubs will pull even further away from the rest next season due to the managerial changes and the money being spent. From 10th downwards, it's dog eat dog for survival.

Reina wont be leaving this year, I think its good having some healthy competition for the GK spot. It will keep him on his toes plus I think this will be his last year, he will then be Barca bound.

But I can't see Mignolet moving without the guarantee of first team football, World Cup spot is up for grabs and he won't want to lose out.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Why would Mignolet join, if he was told that Reina is staying.....he wouldn't. It would be madness and his career would stall and for sure Courtois would be preferred for World Cup selection. Think about it.

I see it being 8th down. West Brom have lost Lukaku and Odemwingie, Swansea have a bit of turmoil going on plus some of their players are not too amazing.

Yeah the only clubs I think are definitely not going to be relegated are: Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, Liverpool...can see every club below that getting sucked in. Most clubs will be hoping a couple of clubs are notoriously poorer than all the rest.

I'd say that right now Palace and Hull look below the standard needed (about Readings level). Beyond that West Brom need a big summer with Odemwingie and Lukaku both unlikely to return.

TALKS between Hull City and Scotland keeper Allan McGregor are 'progressing well' and face 'no major obstacles', according to his agent.
Having had a £1.8m bid accepted by current club Besiktas, the matter is now down to talks between the player his agent and the Tigers
And Dave Baldwin, who represents the 31-year-old former Rangers star, says he is keen to complete a move to the KC.
"Allan is keen to play in the Premier League and is very keen to play under Steve Bruce, so now we just have to keep pushing the talks forward," Baldwin told the Hull Daily Mail.

Isco, Silva, Nasri, Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Aguero, Tevez, Dzeko &........Milner. Ridiculous options for Pelligrini. If they can put it together and work as a team, then United really are up against it in my opinion. Moyes is going to need to hit the ground running. Chelsea will be there or thereabouts under Mourinho too and I'm still expecting a big signing at the bridge. Arsenal haven't even began opening the cheque book yet.......
Just feel Liverpool and Tottenham's hopes of a top 4 are very, very slim.
