PENALTY (Mogg) - ACT Brumbies 8-0 Lions
... and it's fourth time lucky for the hosts as Jesse Mogg snakes one between the sticks.

Never thought I'd agree with Hartley over Best but this display is shameful from the Irishman.

Don't think i've heard Tipuric's name called once during this game. Seems he turns it on for the lesser games but this game he's been anonymous.

First and foremost Best has to go off, and we should probably bring Parling on aswell for Evans. I thought Gray has been decent in the loose. Farrell to come aswell. Murray aswell if Youngs continues like he is.
Just an awful game of rugby.

No way has Tipuric been annoymous. Hes been at most breakdowns and has made his tackles. The reason you havent heard his name is because the attack has been so scarce

2 not straight by Best but how about Brumbies feed in the scrum, missing the second row straight to number 8

BBC Sport wrote:HALF-TIME - ACT Brumbies 8-3 Lions
The Lions have been very disjointed this half, with their lack of fluidity out wide beaten only by a line-out which is falling apart quicker than the Euro.
Just about the only real positive for the tourists has been the breakdown, with Justin Tipuric and co keeping them in it with a series of turnovers.
But elsewhere this looks what it is - a thrown together team essentially acting as a placeholder until the serious business gets under way on Saturday.
If the 2013 tourists want to maintain their unbeaten record they're going to have to up their game in the second half - and maybe bring on replacement hooker Richard Hibbard, harsh as that sounds.

In Australia the scrum is a way for the attacking team to restart (alla League) not a contest for possession

BTW..this is a side put together by the coaches. Cobbled together actually..so not all the blame hits the players. That's much too easy. Coaches take some flak too here.

It makes me so mad when refs whistle for a crooked throw in the line-out but then allow a crooked feed at the ensuing scrum. So illogical it makes a mockery of the game.

Exactly, the Lions are not an all conquering super team. Scratch side v best S15 team. Altho that shouldn't be an excuse for some ragged play...

Re: Brumbies vs Lions Tuesday
Tuperic has been the standout player of the first half, what people are saying on here about him is laughable. For me, the players that need to up their game's are Best, Youngs, Wade and Grey. Our line out is a farce, I bet nobody is calling for Gatlands head now for picking Hartley before him, and anybody who thinks Youngs should start ahead of Phillips should just watch this first half, unless said players up their game, or they are replaced, we are going to loose this match.

Re: Brumbies vs Lions Tuesday
To be fair, think about the backline, which could always be hit or miss (lots of exciting talent, but cobbled together)-
(Disclaimer- I cannot watch the match so I have formulated this opinion from reading on here and various live-text updates)
9- Youngs- should be doing better, no excuses there
10- Hogg- not a 10, has played there once before, met his centres 3 days ago
11- Williams- 36, playing in Japan's 2nd division, flew over like a day ago
12- Twelvetrees - been here for a few days
13- Barritt - called up from holiday a couple of days ago, not a 13
14- Wade - barely started INT rugby, flown in a couple of days ago
15- Kearney- barely recovered from injury
This isn't hugely surprising, and this is a very good Brumbies side. Sounds like the game is tedious

To be fair we have a fullback at flyhalf and a fullback starting his first game and the centers and wings only been together 24-48hrs. The pack to be honest should be doing better, youngster has had to deal with Poopie so far!.

Forwards can't use the excuse of being cobbled together though... how are they fronting up?
Are the backs just spoiling good ball by the forwards or are we inferior all over the park?

Re: Brumbies vs Lions Tuesday
Best has lost us three with crooked throws and three lineouts lost because of no movement in the lineout whatsoever. So predictable and easy for the Brumbies to read- and then the hooker starts throwing squint because everyone is marked...
This lineout doesn't look coached. We're so, so poor there. Kimlin knows exactly where its going. Every time.

We have a 15 playing 10 not out of injury... but because of Gatlands original selection.

Best is having a nightmare and I'm not even watching it. Get him off. We have to win our own lienout ball. 10 meters from the Brumbies line and a minute later we are now defending on our own lie? Simply atrocious.

Seems unlikely, mate. Wingers don't win games, they only finish the chances made by the other backs, who rely on the pack, who actually win the match. Unless he misses more tackles, matches are not lost by wingers

Because youngs doesn't try to do it all himself like Phillips, the lions need a scrum half, not an extra flanker.
From the sounds of it (at work and can't watch it) he should be doing better, but on the same note you have to look at lions team. Could anyone play well with them?

If a crooked feed is wrong then it is wrong at scrum as well as lineout. More so in my opinion because the scrum is easier possession. Think of it from the point of view of "Shall we restart the game fairly?"

41 mins:
ACT Brumbies 8-3 Lions
Forty minutes to save the unbeaten record. A smiling England coach Stuart Lancaster shakes hands in the stands, in the dressing room a non-smiling Andy Farrell lays down the law.
Here we go, Stuart Hogg hangs it high and long.
41 min:
ACT Brumbies 8-3 Lions
Oh dear. Rory Best's first throw of the half is a shocker. How much longer will they stick with him?
ACT Brumbies 8-3 Lions
42 Min:
Christian Wade races down the right touchline and Tevita Kuridrani takes him high. Penalty, Rob Kearney kicks it into the corner. Lots of pressure on Rory Best now.
The Ireland hooker throws in straight - but it's a real floater and the Brumbies get up in front of Richie Gray and steal the throw.
45 mins:
PENALTY (Mogg) - ACT Brumbies 11-3 Lions
Three more here for the hosts surely as Sean O'Brien is penalised for not rolling away after making the tackle.
Yep, Jesse Mogg goes straight down the middle...
48 mins:
ACT Brumbies 11-3 Lions
Rory Best earns a measure of redemption by securing a loose ball on the ground. Lions scrum follows, can they do any damage? Nope, rock solid from the hosts.

Oh believe me Best is having a nightmare but we'll still be losing plenty of lineouts once he comes off. No-one is moving at all. We look like we have put all our lineout calls in the cupboard for Saturday and the forwards are standing static, not moving at all and getting up into the air ver-y, ver-y slowly.

Barbarians team/ players our of position fresh off the plane/ out of retirement plus knowledge for a lot of them that they are not going in the test team must make it hard to get full motivation. Better leadership would help

Are you even watching the game ? He has knocked the ball on a couple of times coughing up good possession, when playing rugby you are not supposed to drop the ball. Pretty basic rugby knowledge, that.

Agreed, this is a big one to win, far more important than in HK or the county game. A win today sets up the squad for the tests, likewise a loss buoys up the Aussies. Frankly the Lions are looking very poor.
