I could take a loss if there was any sign that the players had a clue. We are 14-3 down and don't even look like scoring.

For me, the players that need to up their game's are Best, Youngs, Wade and Grey. Our line out is a farce, I bet nobody is calling for Gatlands head now for picking Hartley before him, and anybody who thinks Youngs should start ahead of Phillips should just watch this first half, unless said players up their game, or they are replaced, we are going to loose this match.
Wade's just midweek cover anyway, isn't he? Called up until North is fit?
Yes, but unless he improves, or is replaced, we are not going to win "THIS" game.
Seems unlikely, mate. Wingers don't win games, they only finish the chances made by the other backs, who rely on the pack, who actually win the match. Unless he misses more tackles, matches are not lost by wingers
Pretty basic rugby knowledge, that
Are you even watching the game ? He has knocked the ball on a couple of times coughing up good possession, when playing rugby you are not supposed to drop the ball. Pretty basic rugby knowledge, that.
No I'm watching the game but the strong impression I'm getting from everywhere is that we are losing this game because our entire backline is disorganised, our pack are getting beaten in all areas (even the scrum), Youngs is passing tripe, we have lost every single lineout, missed kicks and are generally being utterly outplayed. Not sure that subbing off Wade for Zebo will fix that

The coaching of this game has been absolutely pathetic. Seems like Gatland doesn't care much at all about this match.

There surely comes a point when even throwing players won't get the momentum back.

Ryan Grant penalised for pulling a man out of a ruck by his head. Poor discipline, another shot at goal for the hosts.
Jesse Mogg bang on target, that unbeaten tour looking more unlikely by the minute.

Why? He has hardly picked the strongest team he could have done. He hadn't exactly rushed to make changes when players (Best being the most obvious one) are playing badly. He only cares about the tests and rightly so.

Oh believe me Best is having a nightmare but we'll still be losing plenty of lineouts once he comes off. No-one is moving at all. We look like we have put all our lineout calls in the cupboard for Saturday and the forwards are standing static, not moving at all and getting up into the air ver-y, ver-y slowly.
I don't think it excuses at least three (plus one he got away with) not straights, especially when his man is up. Have to feel sorry for him. Ulster will have some work to do to build his confidence up again.

It's such a shame, I really wanted Best to take this opportunity, but if it's as you say, it doesn't sound like he is getting much help.

I begg to differ. This team should still put away the Brumbies missing so many players. Gatland will want all the momentum going into the first test. He will be furious at this shambles. Of course he cares more about the tests but he will still be gutted at this performance.jelly wrote:offload wrote:No way - Gatland will be effing furious if they loose this.jelly wrote:I can't see Gatland being too bothered by this game. Chance for the Lions to trim the gap - Matt Toomua penalised for holding on as Sean O'Brien jackals to perfection. Stuart Hogg makes no mistake.
Lions bring on an entire new front row, plus Dan Lydiate for Sean O'Brien in the back row.

Think Toby Faletau is doing ok really, considering he has no platform and playing against a tenacious Brumbies defence.

First scrum with the new boys sees the Lions edge forwards, but when Alex Corbisiero carries for the first time he is smashed back in the tackle by Matt Toomua - fly-half on prop. Oof.

Oh no, he's responsible for about 25% of our lineouts going awry, with the other 25% collective failures- then we won 50% but not much clean ball.
Desperate stuff from our lineout tonight- but we do look like we've put our lineout calls away ahead of Saturday. Bestie will be fine. He's made of very stern stuff.

That's more like it, real power from the Lions eight. Alex Corbisiero must have been mightily narked by that tackle, because this time the England loose-head and fellow replacements Dan Cole and Richard Hibbard drill the Brumbies back like an engine shunting a waggon into the sidings.
They make 15m before the penalty comes, but Stuart Higg hits the woodwork again.

It says something about the precision kicking of Leigh Halfpenny that the laser-guided boot of Owen Farrell is only the number two option for the Lions on this tour.
When Josh Mann-Rea is penalised for not rolling away up steps the England youngster to trim the gap to five points.
