Yeah, I just get infuritated with Gibbs' injury record so just omitted him. I still think Monreal is probably going to play over Gibbs. Wilshere is injury prone and yeah i accept your point but hopefully he can turn it around and would obviously be paired with carrick. Wide left is Podolski's position and rooney can't play there. kagawa likes a more central role, hence why i chose podolski over both of them. you could switch cazorla to the left and put rooney in behind rvp which i could accept as being just as strong. interesting though how strong arsenal's line up is, they just cant defend and have no striker now. 6-5 split is interesting. wenger needs to spend ASAP on key positions before it's too late

Arsenals biggest problem seems to be self belief. Talent is there, mindset isn't

Defence and keeper are miles behind for me. They dont have much back up in postions either. Vidic on form is one of the best cb in the world yet we've hardly missed him with evans form. Also think arsenal balance in midfield is too attack heavy and dont give enough protection to the weak defence
I know defensively thet were improved last season but I wouldnt take any if thier cbs over any of ours

Vidic hasn't reached the level of 2009 for quite a while now. Koscielny and Mertesacker actually played well as a duo and Monreal did well. Sagna past it but Jenkinson had some good games.

Yeah, too attack minded are Arsenal and the defence is just way too leaky along with the keeper. I know Arsene wanted M'vila but got priced out of a move and then they wanted that Kondogbia from Sevilla. Surprised they haven't added another centre back as of yet, Vermaelen's form has dropped considerably and is now injury prone. Ashley Williams is the main target from Swansea but we all know that British players are over-priced and that is probably what has put Wenger off. Can definitely see a move for Begovic further down the line.
Apparently, Newcastle will finalise a £5m deal for Darren Bent early next week when Kinnear returns from Holiday. Hopefully it's true, just need to get players in now and get them in for pre-season.

Not sure how I see cisse and bent playing together, cant imagine either will be happy sitting on the bench. Of the types of forwards out there not sure bent is what you need

Yet still finished miles behind united with all your attacking flair? Its all about balance and last season you had to over compensate for your weaknesses in defence imo

No we need a Benteke type of striker, who's tall and powerful and can bring the midfielders into the game, just like Ba did. Of course, Benteke coming to us is never going to happen. Cisse was dreadful last year and there were rumours of Anzhi bidding £18m for Cisse, so it could still be a replacement option. Look, I'm just desperate for some new options to the team and Bent is a proven goalscorer, irrelevant of his lack of technique.

Coming 2nd on the defensive table behind Man Utd is a very good considering we can't defend apparently. We didn't have attacking flair last year so your talking out your ass bro, We struggled to break sides down on regular occasions and that's what created the big points difference where United would win 1-0 we'd draw or lose.compelling and rich wrote:Fernando wrote:Im happy to have a terrible defense if it means coming 2nd on the list for conceding least amount of goals over a season behind Man Utd only

That's because your wide players are were extremely poor last year and Cazorla was the difference between 4th and 5th place for us hence everyone has gone that way.
Let's face it no one really wanted to put Rafael in their side he's just the lesser of 2 terrible RB's. Plus Walcott had a decent season scoring 20+ goals in all competitions. Nani/Young were awful and Kagawa didn't play as much as he really should for you guys.

Still not rating your defence no matter how many stats you throw at me, mertesacker can barely run decent in the air but any quick player gets at him hes doomed. Sanga has been awful for a while now. And koscielny doesnt read the game very well gets caught out a fair bit but doesnt look too bad as he's pretty quick and can recover sometimes. If you combined the two players you'd have a good cb
Then add that you have no gk, and no decent back ups incase of any injuries

You can't argue with facts C&R it's concrete we came 2nd in the defensive table end of.
We sure as hell don't care if you rate our defense the fact we conceded 3 more goals then your beloved United over a season shows it's not as bad as people like yourself make out.

So what do people think are the best deals done so far?
Premier League:
I actually think so far it's been Nicholas Anelka to West Brom, I know he was poor in China at Juventus but he's a proven Premier League forward who was doing fairly well at Chelsea. Think he's a very astute signing as long as his wages aren't too high. Having lost Lukaku they needed a good forward.
I also think the Martin Stekelenberg signing by Fulham is another very good signing.
Rest of the World:
For me it's Neymar to Barcelona, I know it's a lot of money, but they'll recoup a lot of it on shirt sales, having just been to Barcelona there were probably just as many people with Neymar shirts as Messi ones. Having actually properly watched him at the Confederations Cup it is clear there is more than just hype to Neymar, think him and Messi could compliment each other well and at just 21 years old there is room for him to get even better.
I think Monaco signing Moutinho, Falcao and Rodriguez were three very good signings to build a team around.

Ipswich sign Dean Gerken from Bristol City - Whenever i have seen him play, he usually makes a big mistake. Good luck Ipswich fans
Brentford sign Martin Fillo from Viktoria Plzen - Uwe Rosler using his contacts, could go either way this signing.
Fleetwood sign Stephen Jordan from Dunfermline - Used to be a regular for a Man City Premiership side, wow.

Christ, Arsenal can scrape into fourth but still be as good as Man United? The things you learn on the Internet.
I'd say Anelka is one of the worst signings of the window. Stek is a cracking one, Fulham have done everything right so far. Kone is a very good signing, Wanyama probably stands out.

Yeah Wanyama has been the signing of the summer so far, but it all depends on money.
2011/12 signing of the season was Demba Ba.
2012/13 was Michu
Simply because they were both on free transfers and both were bluddy class!

I think the complete opposite will happen for two reasons. Firstly, it's his second season and now has a reputation, which will see him marked more heavily. Secondly, he played up front on his own mostly, now he has to incorporate playing alongside a striker who will take a majority of his chances away from him. I can't see Michu scoring or matching his goal tally last season......it's unfortunate but that's usually how things unfold.

I agree with Miky, I think hes not a natural lone forward but an attacking midfielder who wants to play in the hole. He may not score as many but I reckon the partnership will score more than Michu and any other combination from last season. Which means its worked. I think he'll exploit the space and offer a double threat now. May have a Sheringham like influence now.

I agree that he is more of an attacking midfielder and i'm not saying that he can't play up front because he proved that he can last season but i think perhaps he will play the number 10 role like you say playing in the hole behind the striker. One great thing i did notice amongst other things when watching Michu last season is that his movement is fantastic which comes onto the point that you made Chris about exploiting the space.

We don't need another defender. I'm fed up with united sometimes. They constantly look to strengthen positions they don't need to
Here's a plan guys, considering how poor cleverly and Anderson are, why not look for a midfielder (a position we actually need)

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread ......Continued
All I was saying was that Michu will have a reputation now and everyone knows his game and will put plans in place. He won't score as many as last season, I'm pretty certain about that. The partnership though of him and Bony could be very good though but seeing as Bony will lead the line, that in turn will reduce Michu's goal tally and overall amount of chances.
Agree, United don't need a defender at all. Central midfield is crying out for a signing. Anderson is never fit and Cleverley is quite frankly woeful and if it wasn't for Ferguson he'd probably be on loan somewhere or even not in the game. How on earth he plays and starts for England is beyond me but that's the power of playing for a top 4 club has on a manager like Hodgson. Has Strootman gone to Roma then? If this deal does go through, should pave the way for De Rossi to go to Chelsea.

I can see United rekindling their interest in Modric. With Madrid having signed two midfielders this summer he might not get much playing time

I get that with the age, but I still don't see that position as more of a priority than midfield
By all means I'm happy for them to strengthen there in future but feel that the priority should be midfield first

We would've signed thiago if we were a bit more cut throat in our dealings
I think united have this mindset that everybody wants to play for them (which I suppose they can be forgiven for thinking considering their size) but they don't seem to realise there are other clubs which are just as, or more attractive than us
Like I said earlier with Madrid signing two midfielders I expect Modric might leave and we might end up being his destination. I don't see us getting Fabregas, I think thiago will go Munich.
I reckon that'll leave Modric or Fellaini or both, I don't know about Cabaye - was there even interest from us there?

I think the Modric deal would be dependent upon how strong Ancelotti's relationship with Kaka is still and whether or not Carlo thinks Kaka can re-ignite his past glory days. I don't think Madrid will need the funds, seeing as they will be selling Higuain, you would presume, so United are not going to get him cheap.

Can't see United going in for Cabaye. Ashley will demand a huge fee for the 27 or 28 age year old. Also, if United do attempt to buy Yohan, that will only alert Monaco or PSG and then they would out-bid United and offer bigger wages. Fellaini is just a no-no for United.

You'd figure you might as well get something for Alonso this year.
Kaka has to go on his wages. With the world cup in Brazil next year, like Maicon at City, he might be willing to cut his wages to play regular games to force his way in.
