Wimbledon Day 8 or 9
First topic message reminder :
There's some ladies on. I think I want Li Na to win this one, along with Lisicki and whoever. Maid Marion too.

barrystar wrote:One area where HE is partially right, is that Murray does not seem to be able to enthuse CC - the crowd is not particularly animated despite this being an absolute nail-biter. Maybe they are too stressed, or maybe they are disappointed by the performance, but it is a pretty subdued CC crowd I'd say.
I'd also say that I am not on the edge of my seat as I would have been for Fed, even though as a Brit I want Murray to win.
I'd say the crowd are giving Andy a pretty good amount of support but as others have said they are very fair (unlike the French...) and are also giving Verdasco his dues. Seems like a good atmosphere

Not taking anything away from Verdasco he has played superbly well but he has made a lot of unforced errors.

The most consistent performance throughout has been Verdasco's hair gel - amazing hold for 3.5 hrs.

Normally I don't watch Murray matches as they are pretty dull, but for Wimbledon I always make an exception. The atmosphere is always so great because of the crowd. Have to admire their loyalty, while at the same time being very respectful towards Verdasco. One of the best crowds in the world (and I say this as a non-brit).

Murray has the most boorish, unappealing supporters box in tennis.
Nothing but aggression.

I totally agree, it's deeply unpleasant. I though Novak's parents were bad but this edges them out.HM Murdoch wrote:Murray has the most boorish, unappealing supporters box in tennis.

Honourable exception being Lendl of course.

What a gracious loser Nando was. The Murray box were OK in the moment of triumph too - but they do look a bit aggressive at times (Djoko's mob are a bit like that too).

ahhh, anti-climax or Andy-climax whatever, Verdasco like Almagro when it comes to finishing touches just can't do it.
Well played Andy, nicely tested.

Just edging past an unseeded guy isn't normally seen as a ringing endorsement.
He needs to play about 5 times as well as that to get a set off Djokovic.

Yes - but TMF scraped through Benneteau and Malisse on his way in last year, my hope is that this wakes him up and, looking back, it's his one big lapse.
We'll see, but I can't see JJ letting him get away with a 2-0 head start.

I'm remarkably angry at that match. I first flicked onto it when Murray had just won the third set, and I knew at that point that Verdasco would throw away the next two and lose in five. Murray proved in that match that boring, defensive play comes out on top if you just run down every ball and wear out the attacking player. I hope Janowicz blitzes him in the semi final, although it's more likely that we'll be left with another boring Murray Djokovic bunting battle in the final.

Garry Richardson is the absolute worst interviewer. Once you interpret the unfesibly long, clause-laden rambling, the questions are just idiotic.
Just now they included:
- is that a warning? No, Garry, Andy is not the one expecting it to be easy. That's you idiots.
- an incoherent link to Alex Ferguson's 'hair dryer' and Lendl.
Pathetic.

You can't say it was boring when you didn't watch the last 2 sets. If you had done, then you would have witnessed a spectacular match from both players, Nando playing his best tennis ever and Murray putting him under lots of pressure. He didnt throw away those 2 sets, it was neck and neck to the 10th game in each one. It could have gone both ways when they were both 5-5, so stop this rubbish commenting and just admit that Murray won a good hard fought match and have done with it.

How do you class that as his best ever? He was physically gone during the 4th set.
And it wasn't neck and neck to the 10th in the 4th,the break came earlier.

Not today, no. But that wasn't Murray vintage out there. Friday and Sunday (if it happens) are different days. He has the game to beat Djokovic, just needs to be at his best.

Re: Wimbledon Day 8 or 9
Shame Verdasco lost but in the end the unforced errors cost him. Murray just ran and defended, doing nothing much really. Hope Janowicz blows him away but can't see it. Djokovic for the title for me. I dread to think what Murray winning Wimbledon will do for his ego. Just can't stand him or his foul mouth. Surprised we weren't seeing the 'back' injury after the first couple of sets, usually brings that out when he's playing badly.
As for Andrew Castle, utterly dreadful commentator. Please go back to the rock you were hiding under and don't come out again. Shocking.
Del Potro much respect.

McEnroe, Gilbert etc being critical on TSN. The word 'moonball' and statement 'you can't win just with defence, though it did today' make early appearances.
I must state that in a Djokovic / Murray final I'm supportive of Andy. But I think it could be painful for Murray.
This was Verdasco, FFS.

If Andy gets to the final, he just has to remember that he and Nole have only ever played once on grass, at the Olympics, and he won in straight sets. He's also beaten Nole in a slam final before. It's nothing he hasn't done before, and no reason he shouldn't be able to do it again!

Forget it BB, you aint going to bring me down.
The rest of the world saw a different match to yours, and enjoyed the display.
Nail biting to the finish, unless you hate tennis so much you look upon it as a contemptible punishment, now Federer is out and have to purge your chagrin by ignoring the great tennis that's on offer.
Your loss, sadly.
