The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Ealing Broadway
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way back to London where the victorious British & Irish Lions squad will start their 25 day open bus journey across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland - being greeted by millions of happy, proud, delirious, tipsy and slightly sunburned rugby fans.
So grab a beer, cider, whiskey or wine.... or a warm beverage and sit back and enjoy their well-earned procession through the streets where it all began.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of the legendary
Warren Gatland, Sam Warburton, Alex Corbisiero, Jonathan Sexton, George North, Jamie Roberts and Richie Gray.

There are two main drinking areas in Swansea - The Mumbles Mile - although apparently there are now only five pubs in the mile. It's more than likely you were on Wind Street (aka Wine Street).

Y'arighr folks. Viadana is a pain to get to. Calls, texts and info exchanging going on.
Flights sorted I think (gawd bless Andy for his perseverence with the organising).

Great bar. Not done the Grape and Olive, but there is a coffee shop which is right at the top of the tower, which is probably slightly better views and certainly cheaper.

In fact Gibbo, do the coffee house thing in the tower, then go to the Smoke Haus on Wind Street for some Man V Food type challenges.
In Newport you can have the delights of the charcoal grill. Great place.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Ealing Broadway
Big news for Edinburgh, Alan Solomons has signed on as Head Coach. Not such good news for the Southern Kings- looks like his last game in charge will be the playoff against the Lions they need to win by more than 7. The news their Director of Rugby is leaving is probably quite worrying regardless of the outcome of the playoff. Especially as Matt Sexton may now leave.

Edinburgh are a strange one. They played some cracking stuff in their Heineken Cup run the season before last, but struggled last season.

They're just a side that has been coached consistently badly, and have done poorly in terms of the calibre of player they are recruiting. When that happens you'll see teams sink to the bottom. There's no great mystery to it.Bradley inherited a side with great potential and left a basket case.

Their offloading game was great to watch, but last season it was Glasgow who really took it on - but then they have the power up front to have a platform to play from.
What sort of rugby does Solomons have the Kings playing?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Ealing Broadway
Tbh I haven't been watching the Kings- most of the games in Super Rugby I've watched this year have been recordings of the NZ sides and I've seen very little of the South African teams.
But when Solomons was with Ulster it was very much a case of making us a hard-nosed forwards team, accurate and strong in the set piece, good at the breakdown, just a hard forwards-orientated team with David Humphreys conducting the orchestra. Not that we didn't use our backs but it was quite a controlled, physical style of rugby. Not the freewheeling offloading game of Glasgow.
Tbh, I think Edinburgh need a coach who can toughen them up. They have a lightweight pack that gets dominated way too often. Partly mental.

Sounds like toughening them up is the idea then. It's such a cliche about games being won up front, but there's so much truth to it. The hope for us is that our signings and coaching appointments will mean we have a pack that at least holds its own. Once you have that solidity, you can choose how you want to play.

I used to intend on using that as a thoroughfare, but always ended up staying there for a couple. Last time I was in there, I had a towny asking me why I was married to a Scottish woman (she was talking to my brother in law and mates as they were all kilted). She was angry.

I've only been in there a couple of times (that I can remember). There are better pubs, but there are worse too. The Murenger's still okay, but it's not the pub it was before they did it up and moved the bar.

Not really been in the Murenger. For a pub, I tend to go in the Cross Keys, as it's a great place name and it has a good jukey. I don't really go out in Newport. We will have to think of a hippy place for young Gibson though.

Oh to be back in Paris. There were two phenomenal cafés within spitting distance of our hotel. Grabbing food on the hop in Carmarthen is difficult if you appreciate decent food.

This is a terrible thing to happen but could the headline writer not have thought of a better word to describe a woman and baby who were hit be a Horse transporting lorry?

I like the Cross Keys. Good jukebox as you say, and three pool tables. The Murenger used to have an awesome jukebox, but when they tarted it up they got rid of it.

Juke boxes in pubs. Almost as bad as slot machines. Thankfully not something we have over here.Luckless Pedestrian wrote:Risca Rev wrote:Not really been in the Murenger. We all have different tastes in music. something that makes me jump up and boogie may make you run for the exit and visa versa. What I percieve as "a load of people who are great crack generating an atmopsphere by lurching around peed singing along with the jukebox" you may percieve as "a load of asses flutes making a show of themselves".... and possibly visa versaLuckless Pedestrian wrote:What don't you like about jukeboxes, Jen?
Not a fan of loud music (unless it's live) in pubs either. But that's probably my age.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Ealing Broadway
A jukebox shouldn't be too loud, I agree with that. You still need to be able to have a conversation.
The worst thing is when you're at the jukebox choosing your songs and another person's selections come on and they're rubbish. You feel like telling the whole pub you're not responsible for them. Or you choose your songs but they're in a queue and your first song starts just as you're leaving.

Ok here's a question: when I move I'd quite like bt sport seeing as I want to watch a.p rugby
However: I wouldn't mind watching h.cup and nfl but don't want to fork out £40 a month just to get sky sports. Does anyone know a different way I can do it or am I looking at streaming again?

Find someone who has Sky Sports and doesn't use their online streaming. Borrow their username and password and watch it online for free.

I think you can do that if someone else gives you their log in details. You can watch it mobile through The Cloud I think. But hey Prop, there's always the pub! Get used to a decent local and find yourself a favoured seat That's what I've been doing with the GAA (BOD bless O'Neills!).
Evening All,
Hope everyone's well. I'm OK despite looking like a red-eyed panda...the summer (which I thought was over) caught me very unawares yesterday and burnt my face under my eyes!

Yeah the only problem I have with going to the pub is the money that will be spent!

Prop, take a paper and make a pint last for two hours... You don't fancy Sky Sports at all then? I thought you'd be into sport generally? I may have to sell my soul to Sky next year anyway being as they're having some of the P-12 matches as well.
