The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Ealing Broadway
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way back to London where the victorious British & Irish Lions squad will start their 25 day open bus journey across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland - being greeted by millions of happy, proud, delirious, tipsy and slightly sunburned rugby fans.
So grab a beer, cider, whiskey or wine.... or a warm beverage and sit back and enjoy their well-earned procession through the streets where it all began.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of the legendary
Warren Gatland, Sam Warburton, Alex Corbisiero, Jonathan Sexton, George North, Jamie Roberts and Richie Gray.

Why are solicitors so useless (sorry Glas)?? Both sides want to complete this friday and they're both saying they've left messages and the other solicitors aren't getting back to them!!!!

Prop - I used to work for a legal costings firm many moons ago, and time was money for solicitors. The more they had to do, the more time they spent on something, the costs went up...oh I'm just being cynical

Afternoon all. Been in my shell for a while. Busy as feic working night & day TBH, slaving away, on a pittance, working for imperialist, pig-dog, outsourcing, capitalist, basterd, money-grabbing Yanks.
I just love New IBM. Its so lean an ting.
Anyway, this orticle cheered me up. This is what separates us from the Rest, roysh. Must get home for an away game (yeah, I know) and fly out on it with the goys.

Hope everyone is well and looking forward to the new season kicking off. Be great to meet up with a few of you on Tour again this Season. I love it. Its the best part of it all for me.
Believe.

Evenin' Gibbygob
I can't wait for the new season. It'll be awesome to meet up for the Heino games, but you're not sitting next to me, cause everytime I sit next to you to watch Leinster, they blummin' win.
Just watching The Great British Bake Off. It's the only programme that makes me besides watching Tommy

Wow strange evening....found a sum of money in an atm machine so (not being one to shirk my civic duty of course) took it down to the local police station to hand myself in... after waiting an hour surrounded by various unsavoury characters whilst they filed the paper work it turns out I get to keep it unless the owner claims it within 28 days or something....

Because people are encouraged to ring around for quotes and tend to go for the cheapest one, hence it's done on a shoestring budget. If you're phoning for a quote you should ask five things:prop_lyd wrote:Why are solicitors so useless (sorry Glas)?? Both sides want to complete this friday and they're both saying they've left messages and the other solicitors aren't getting back to them!!!!
1 are you paying a referral fee to the estate agent?
2 is the person running the file a solicitor or qualified executive?
3 how long does it take you to return calls or emails?
4 has the person running the file got a dedicated email address?
5 what price?
1-4 are the most important, but NEVER asked.

That's nice Rodders. I don't know if anyone will claim it. They might think it's too late and no one would've handed it in. I found a wallet full of money on the way to work a while back, I went to the trouble of posting it back to the owner in the condition I found it by Special Delivery (I didn't get the chance to go and hand it in to the police at that time of the morning) and didn't get so much as an acknowledgement.rodders wrote:Wow strange evening....found a sum of money in an atm machine so (not being one to shirk my civic duty of course) took it down to the local police station to hand myself in... after waiting an hour surrounded by various unsavoury characters whilst they filed the paper work it turns out I get to keep it unless the owner claims it within 28 days or something....
Anyway, Morning All
Going to finish my painting today, and go out for a stroll later.

Morning, Cari. I'm finishing painting today as well (I hope) but this is a watercolour - on a rather smaller scale than yours! This will be my entry for the art section of the BLS Horticultural Society show on Saturday. Already made my jams, jellies and chutneys, now gearing up for a bake fest before the weekend. Funny thing is that, not having a sweet tooth, I don't actually eat most of this stuff, except the bread. This is the only time of year that I make shortbread, cake etc, purely for the sake of taking part. Quite good fun though!

Small change for a man of your social stature Luckless! Enough to buy myself quite a few if it's still in my possession in 27 days though!
Seriously though there doesn't seem to be any way to track down the owner, could put a call out on local radio maybe but I don't want any old quack trying to claim it. It's a real quandary indeed.

I didn't say the painting is any good, Cari! Keeps me out of mischief (some of the time). Under the heading of 'an unusual jam' I have been out foraging and made Wild Scottish Blaeberry and Lime - gathered the blaeberries, not the lime! Scotland isn't known for its wild limes. I am now in the process of making my own puff pastry for the sausage rolls. If it's worth doing ...

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Ealing Broadway
Is anyone else here furious that the US / UK are rushing to attack Syria over Assad's use of chemical weapons, when the UN inspectors haven't even confirmed a chemical attack took place, let alone that it was Assad who launched it?
Actually, furious is the wrong word. I'm saddened by the inevitability of action and my impotence to prevent it.
The UN's asked for another four days for its inspectors to finish investigating. They won't even get that.

Yeah Lucky. I think if Scotland votes for Independence I will seriously consider relocating there long term. Having spent nearly 10 years living there I know there is a democratic framework and sense of social justice that has left the rest of this country. It won't be perfect, but it will be better than what we have. I'm sick of the Westminster/London mob. Tories, Labour, Lib Dems- all in servitude to big business, the banks and the USA. All nearly identical in political outlook. All immune to the effects of democracy as we know it.

Yes, particularly as I strongly suspect it was the rebels anyways....which is neither here nor there as this is a civil war and none of our business, or would be if we hadn't helped arm the rebels and instigate the uprising in the first place. With Hezbollah, Iran and Russia watching on this has all the makings of a total omnishambles of biblical proportions.Luckless Pedestrian wrote:Is anyone else here furious that the US / UK are rushing to attack Syria over Assad's use of chemical weapons, when the UN inspectors haven't even confirmed a chemical attack took place, let alone that it was Assad who launched it?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Ealing Broadway
It's actually insane that the government is tabling a resolution to the security council that condemns Assad's use of chemical weapons when the UN's own inspectors are still to confirm it actually was a chemical attack. That's just absurd. Assad had nothing to gain from launching a chemical weapon attack. He knew it was a 'red line' as far as the West was concerned. Add to that fact that he was gaining ground on the opposition and it just doesn't add up that he'd do it.
If there's evidence the Syrian government did it, let's see the evidence!

Well its only insane from the perspective that they actually care about the outcome of the UN inspection. The US and by proxy the UK look to have already made their minds up about military intervention and regime change.
Maybe he did it, maybe he didn't but this is a very dangerous and messy game we are playing with very high stakes.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Ealing Broadway
It was still there last Saturday, Rodders... well, the South Pacific / Tasman Sea was anyway. (btw, are you talking about overfishing or the flotsam & jetsam from the tsunami... or something else?)
I've been fairly busy (like Gibbo and the rest of us) but also lying low on account of Australia's poor performances on just about every sporting field. I may have finally hit the wall... but knowing me I'll dust myself off sometime soon.
At least the weather's getting warmer. No wasps yet Lucky but I've seen a few rowdy skinks around the letterbox.
We have the elections next Saturday - September 7. It's been dragging on since January and there is total media saturation about next to nothing (most of the time). I just want the damn thing over with. Another debate tonight... so much waffle, childish bickering and hollow promising.
The situation in Syria is so tragic - I can't believe how eager some Gvts are to rush into another conflict... again. It's a sad and sickening situation there. I'm watching Hague (right now) urging 'us' not to "take too long to act". I bet he hasn't thought it through enough!
I saw some Indian-Aussies? playing cricket last weekend. It's that confusing time of year in between winter and summer sport here. You sometimes have to look twice at things. There are also the drug controversies plaguing the AFL (Essendon made an example of) and I'm sure there'll be something similar in the NRL.
In our Shute Shield rugby comp - Syd U and Eastwood are through to the Prelim. Finals. Sthn Districts will play Randwick and Easts play Manly in the Elimination Finals on Saturday.

Oh yeah... that too.
Looking for that glimmer of optimism, Hound.
We're fairly isolated from all the turmoil waaaay down here but our incumbent PM wants to move the Navy out of Sydney Harbour to allow more cruise ships in... and also shore up some marginal seats in Brissy. He didn't even ask our Premier... he just made the announcement on a whim.
So we could be really exposed to seaborne threats in about 30 years....

The Aus RL team are still probably the best in the world.
Might pop down to Lords for another days cricket tomorrow or Friday. Middlesex v Zummerzet and the weather is set fair.
On the other stuff, I wish the Yanks (and UK) would just stay out of shoite that doesn't concern us. If the UN find there is a reason to intervene in Syria then send in UN troops from other countries.
Whenever the Yanks go storming in they cause more problems and tensions.

That's generally the pattern isn't it. I can't help but feel it's also one step closer to dealing with Iran.
Sure, our RL sides are fine. World Cup later this year... I was thinking about making a trip over if I can create a travel window before the Christmas rush. It's been so long!

Bore da pawb / good morning all. Well the Western belligerents have held off for now, which is something. It does surprise me that they thought people would just take their word for it that they had evidence that Assad was behind the attack (which I believe the BBC are still describing as a 'suspected' chemical attack). That's something we have Blair to thank for, I suppose: we're not half as trusting as we were.

Well said man. I moved to NL on the basis that it was a freer-thinking and progressive country. Somewhere we could rear our boys to give them a different angle on the World. It worked back then and it still does to some extent, but the Yank and Brit business culture and attitudes have slowly crept in and I see the same gobshoite types here now, similar to those I used see in Dublin and London years back. I want to smack em for "selling out". And explain to them what they are actually selling. The Clogs I pal and work with, also feel outraged by it. They see the caring, social-minded country they built, being slowly whittled away by International Corporate Lawlessness.Notch wrote:Yeah Lucky.
Moral of the story being... you can't hide from The Man. He is omnipresent and all governments and peoples are ultimately subservient to His will. And I don't mean God or Allah.
Anyway, gorgeous sunny day here today. Makes you feel good to be alive. And free-ish?
Rugby Season is upon us, goys and gals. Hurrah.

That's a good read, Notch. Toppling Assad would be one of Donald Rumsfeld's 'known unknowns': there would be no way of predicting what would follow. The longer an authoritarian leader's been in power, the more profound the vacuum when he's gone (especially when there's no orderly handover of power). That's why it's deeply short-sighted that we've been aiding and arming the opposition, elements of which are openly affiliated with al Qaeda. What kind of Middle East do we want - and more importantly, why is it up to us?
Have you finished your decorating for the time being, Cari?
