2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
First topic message reminder :
Four days left of the transfer window and still Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle still aren't moving quickly. The Bale deal still hasn't gone through, there is still speculation that Real Madrid may go back in for Suarez and Arsenal could break the transfer record. Tottenham have also decided to sign everybody.
Available at the moment seems to be a list of the players who were the best in the world five years ago:
Kaka
Fernando Torres
Samuel Eto'o (until yesterday)

League One side Oldham Athletic have signed former Basel defender Genseric Kusunga on a free transfer. He as already won over us Latics faithful by saying his greatest achievement so far was helping FC Basel knock Man Utd out of the Champions league!

He's in that tier below Messi and Ronaldo, alongside the Mullers, Schweinsteigers, Pirlos and Marchisios of the world. He's absolutely world class, so £42.5m is a good deal for Arsenal. Ba to Arsenal on loan is still gathering pace. I think we were in for him, as well as WBA, but Arsenal have come in late and blown us all away.

I think John may have forgetten that Modric played in the EPL ....you know that season when he helped and make them a formidable top 4 challenging team. The guy has class written all over him and more than held his own during his time in England...where I hasten to add he spent 18-24 months playing out of position for Spurs!

Ozil's definitely better but Shinji might get more goals than him over a season, even if he does score hat tricks against rubbish teams .Dolphin Ziggler wrote:I would ask the same question! Although they have less need for him with Rooney and Kagawa, whereas Ozil is better than Podolski so he'll slot right in. Is Ozil better than Kagawa? Ozil is definitely worth 40m, fans of other teams are going to be bricking it whenever he is around the box with the ball at his feet. With Walcott and Giroud to get on the end of his passes, he will rack up a lot of assists, and bang a few in himself too

Is Ozil better than Kagawa?
Well according to Moyes, 40 year old Giggs, Young, Cleverley, Valencia, Nani etc are all better than Kagawa so Ozil may just get on Utd's bench at a push.

If Bale was worth £85m, Ozil for £42.5m is a bargain.

L'Equipe is reporting that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was examined after the game and that it was determined that there is no fracture in his left fibula.
Ozil is so good and people will be bricking it, he's not needed at madrid. Just saying. im not sure about him assisting to the level he did in spain. Servicing ronaldo, higuain and benzema is quite different to the end product that giroud delivers.

Odemwingie to Cardiff is on apparently.
Borini is off to Sunderland, apparently he is really rated in Italy, particularly by the national team manager. People say he's the next Inzaghi because of his instinct for goals.
That's not what I saw.

As much as I rate Kagawa, he isn't in the same league. Whether that's enough of an upgrade to pay 40m for is another question

Spain football writer Andy West: "Interesting to hear Real Madrid fans at the Bale presentation breaking away from their lauding of the Welshman to launch into a chorus of 'Don´t sell Ozil'.
"Might be a bit late for that now, but it shows how highly Madrid fans regard the German playmaker. Big boots for Bale to fill."

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
Ozil is not worth £42mil but then again Bale isn't worth half of his £86mil price tag, granted football has moved on in the past ten years but £40mil+ was a stretch for Zidane and we're talking about a player in a different stratosphere to either of them. Personally think they should rework the fair play rules because the market is getting inflated to such a point that you can't buy anyone who's proven world class for less than £35mil. I fully expect it to happen but £50mil for Herrera and Feilaini is ludicrous, it's why Arsenal and United have been left behind for most of the summer because both teams are treating the market like it was 10 years ago. Arsenal look to be remedying that now with Ozil but it could still be too little too late.

He's like Scholes then. Can't tackle but does so anyway resulting in many free-kicks given away. Heck, Lloris yesterday showed he could tackle better than those two.Hero wrote:Capoue's double broken leg is testament to Cazorla putting challenges in.Azzy Mahmood wrote:Cazorla was getting his shins and studs in all over the place yesterday. I never realised it was a leg break for Capoue. That's a real heartbreaker for him and hopefully the Arsenal fans will shut up about Shawcross and Ramsey now.

Bizarre to think that Madrid have potentially weakened there team, without Ozil I think we'll see a significant drop in the amount of goals Ronaldo scores. As brilliant as he is he's relied throughout his career on the creativity of others firstly Rooney and then Ozil, much the same as Messi with Iniesta and Xavi, internationally neither has ever shone.

Real are going to regret only having Benzema + Ronaldo + Morata up front. Or are they expecting Bale to bale them out like he did all last season at Spurs?

Apparently Real Madrid are planning to use the Ozil money to make a final push for Suarez. For God's sake...Liverpool should just put a 'closed' sign up.
Was thinking that it's a shame that Real Madrid only have Benzema up front.

Carzola isn't a wide player though. Which means playing others out of position to accommodate Ozil, not always the best way forwards.GSC wrote:His natural position.

Cazorlas actually played wide quite a lot for Vilarreal, Malaga and had some of his best games for Arsenal last season out wide.
Especially given the long term injuries of Podolski and Chamberlain, I'd expect Arsenal to go this route, unless they sign ADM.
Ramseys made a good start to the season also Azzy

Arsenal will still fall short because of that striker situation, especially in europe. I can see a top 4 achieved again, while Spurs players get used to the demands of the EPL and gain experience but Arsenal won't challenge for the title and won't progress far in europe. I don't see what's been achieved. Yeah, have loads of creativity but if you've got Giroud up front then you've got no real hope of achieving much. And dont say giroud scoring 3 goals has suddenly made him world class

That was an urgent flight to complete yet another sponsorship deal, we're set to become the worlds richest club again yet we're reluctant to spend. Hell what is an extra £5mil to spend on Herrera when we're going to have an annual turnover in excess of £400mil from next year.Hero wrote:We're still missing Ed Woodward! Giroud is a goal scorer. Holds the ball up decently.
Not a great player, not a bad player. If Arsenal get Ozil, they've bridged the gap to United a fair bit. Few more signings and they have a platform.
I'm beginning to think you just don't like Arsenal. I don't like Derby but I can at least admit when they do well.

I think people are quick to dismiss Kagawa, he was the best player in Germany for two years prior to leaving, he's got undoubted class but is being managed by a man i'm quickly losing faith in. Next year will be even worse what with Ferdinand, Vidic, Giggs and Evra being a year older and Rooney being into the last year of his contract.TopHat24/7 wrote:Again, based on what??GSC wrote:Ozil is definitely better than Kagawa. Are you a chav?
Do you have absolutely nothing going on in your life?
Are your parents related?
If the answers to these questions are yes why not pop down to your clubs training ground and stand behind a Sky reporter all day.

Sunderland are apparently on the verge of signing, Andre Dossena.
Fully expect them to put a bid in for Alberto Aquilani, to try and complete the trio of Italian Liverpool flops.
