It was a decent show by Liverpool. 7/10 perhaps. First half was fine, flashes of creativity on show. The second half was largely backs-to-the-wall against an inept United side, admittedly with good organisation by Liverpool.
Decent, but room to improve.

When we win games at home 1-0 playing like that we talk about defensively solid but worrying about the attack.
And for a man of stats Crimey, they dont sit well with you on the "best performance" part either.

Chris, if you'd been a Liverpool fan over the past few years and seen the team throw away a result like that time and time again you'd be pretty pleased. I thought defensively Liverpool looked totally rock solid, fair enough United didn't create as much as you'd expect but they certainly were knocking on the door and Liverpool didn't allow them in.
A 1-0 win over your biggest rivals is always going to be a great performance in my books, think it's unfair to blame the defeat all on United being poor, I think in some games what they did would have been enough.
I don't know why you're so annoyed that Liverpool fans are enjoying a 1-0 win over United, for god's sake.

TalkSport are now doing a job on the Liverpool directors for not allowing Roy Hodsgon a seat in the directors box....when there were 13 seats empty there the whole match!

Sunderland (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Newcastle (A)
West Brom (H)
Those are the next 6 games for Liverpool in the PL. 14 points the target, perhaps? 4 wins and 2 draws.

Im not a Man United fan, the bitterness is not there. Sturridge's goal was quality from him, wonderful and excited me to see him continue that form. But the game was poor, low on quality and stats show United were a little on top. Good start, but dont get carried away, that was my message!

United played non-existent, woeful, appalling football. Liverpool played average but well organised football but nothing special. Excellent result but not performance.
United could do with the technical, creativity of a Herrera & the physical, box-to-box nature of Fellaini. Anything is better than Cleverley or Giggs. Let me guess Cleverley starts both England qualifiers

It wasnt a lack of creativity, it was a lack of rudimentary football skills- no individual would have made a difference.
We couldn't pass it to each other, chose the wrong passes, didnt move for each other and had no tempo.
It was a disgrace.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
I honestly believe it was the best one this season, defensively against Stoke and Aston Villa I thought Liverpool were a little too flimsy, gave away too many chances and put themselves under pressure. Against Manchester United, they were disciplined and gave very little away, the defence was always on top of the attack.Dolphin Ziggler wrote:Im not annoyed you're enjoying it, go have a drink and a smile. 1-0 wins are not something I'm particularly used to as a Liverpool fan, having seen us throw away so many games like this, I thought it was an excellent performance not in terms of quality or attacking flair but in terms of heart and the desire to win. I thought Liverpool wanted it a lot more than United today and were throwing themselves into every tackle, but didn't lose their discipline like United began to.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
The main two I'd be worried about there are the Swansea and Southampton games, neither of them have had great starts but both are really dangerous, so you might be right about the 14 points. Just hope get more than a goal a game to be honest, although if it continues, Sturridge is on 38 goals this year.Duty281 wrote:Swansea (A)

It would be typical Liverpool to beat United and then go lose to Crystal Palace at home though.

On paper they do look excellent, I just worry that the players aren't going to gel. At least for now they're scraping wins away while the players take time to settle.

I agree that I can see Arsenal winning today, think people are getting carried away with Spurs at the moment who have a great team on paper with a lot of classy, exciting players. Top 4 should be the aim this year and then I think they can challenge after a year when all or at least most of their players have settled and they can reinforce further with Champions League football.Olly wrote:Really fancy Arsenal to beat Spurs well today, gonna say 3-1. Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Liverpool were definitely the deserved winners of a match that had 0 clear-cut chances and was played pretty much in midfield for the whole game. They were superb for the first half hour and Utd could barely cope with them, I'm surprised they weren't 2 up by half-time. Then Utd dominated the second half without actually doing anything, I think they showed a real lack of creativity in midfield. They definitely missed Rooney or Kagawa to give that spark which could break down the Liverpool defence. It's one thing not breaking down an incredibly negative Chelsea team, it's another with Liverpool who aren't renowned as being as good defensively (Agger and Skrtel played well though). Johnson was immense at RB today along with Vidic at CB. I never realised what a complete tank Johnson is, it was like he entered "Yaya Toure mode" or something. The only thing I can complain about Utd was that Moyes might have got his tactics wrong. The wingers just kept trying to hoof the ball into the box for van Persie to deal with. RVP's not great in the air and Agger and Skrtel are going to deal with those high balls all day long, but then again seeing as Utd were missing the creative players I suppose that's all they could do.
I do want to moan at the referee though. It seemed the Utd players were getting booked for every little thing whereas Liverpool's players were getting away with a lot. Anyway, that's all I have to say. Well done Liverpool
