Good win in what was a vital game.
Worry about the scrum as Kalman going off uninjured after 32 min suggest it wasn't really working.
Sherlock motm, must have made at least 20 tackles!

Hope Ed's all right - we aren't exactly tripping over fit props at the moment.
Sounds like a good win in fairly stinky conditions.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 2: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
On the train back from Scotstoun.
All I'll say at this point is... We can add Roman Poite to the long list if referees who have absolutely no idea what they are doing. It's not normal for four tries to be scored, and to go to the TMO each time. It's not normal to fail to spot a knock on when the ball lands three meters forward of the carrying player. It's not normal to award a yellow card for a professional foul one meter from the line, yet not even consider whether the foul prevented a certain try.
Still, how 'bout them Glasgow Warriors?
Longer analysis when I'm home.

Well, December will be interesting. Blues will have very little preparation time for their home match with Glasgow, so should Toulon perform as poorly on the road again, I fully expect us to see Glasgow topping the group come Christmas. And who would have thought that at half time last week?Rugby Fan wrote:Didn't expect to see Exeter topping this pool after two rounds.
What looked like a predictable group - is now very, very interesting.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 2: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
I was at the game and had no issue with the ref. the yellow card incident was far away from me but it was a pile up n the corner with plenty of defence around - I can't think it would have been a penalty try. The game was spoilt a bit by the weather and Glasgow made far too many errors gifting Exeter at lest 6 points.
Good win for Glasgow. Lovely second try.

TJ, from what I could see (I was about 10m away), Ascarate dinked the ball past the defenders (actually a very well-weighted kick) and was running past them when he was tackled off the ball - not even blocked by a lazy runner, but genuinely tackled. I might have imagined it tho...
Wouldn't want to be seen to be criticising the referee...

No I saw that OK - and it was a clear pen and a yellow - but I was a long way away. Was the yellow for the block?
No issues with critising the ref if they make mistakes - its just the endless one eyed whinging some post5ers indulge in that annoys me

This is a cracking group. It really could end up in any order!
Useful point for the Chiefs today but Glasgow will be pleased to get the home win.
Really can't call the upcoming games.

Bravo Glasgow, just the result needed to throw this group wide open. Felt Exe had the first half first half, then the Warriors got back on top, I felt happy with the scores at half-time, the Warriors motored for 30 mins, but went to sleep to allow us that LBP. Yellow card - defo, anything else = nonsense.

I just watched the Sky 'highlights'.
They showed Swinson's try, then Seymour's disallowed try, and then... ignored Holmes' actual try.
Honestly, how they call themselves 'professional' is beyond me.

Still despite that total man sausage we won and remain in it. IRB need to look at him (Poite) very closely.
Strauss -immense Holmse -immense. Harley - destroyed their back row.

I fear that the bonus points may come back to haunt Glasgow. Exeter getting that bonus point was good for them and bad for glasgow. A good win even tho for glasgow on a wet day that negated much of both sides attacking ability. Glasgow made too many mistakes and gifted too many points to Exeter and it could prove to be thier undoing in the final reckoning. Nice to see Niko back at SH tho - and toonie must now play him in every important game

Sherlock, Big Boab and Bluto has to be the most defensively brutal loose forward combo in the league. No real co-incidence that two of them are from Seth Efrica and the other is from, er, that other hotbed of rugby brutality, Crewe.
If you'd given me a LBP at Toulon and a home win against the Chiefs (even without a BP) at the beginning of October, I would have taken them. I am not too disappointed. Particularly as the Blues did us a favour and popped the Galacticos invincibility bubble. It is eminently clear that they don't like it up 'em, Captain Mainwaring.
Will start a thread for the Munster game soon - this is going to be our biggest challenge by far this season.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 2: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
I thought it was a pretty strange game. Despite the full house the game never really seemed to get going, certainly in the first half. Crowd were quite and the game rarely sparked.
Second half was better and I thought the final outcome of the game was a fair enough reflection.
As has been mentioned our back row was excellent and it was great to see Holmes put in such a good performance. Strauss put in his best performance this season.
Niko back to Scrum Half was an improvement. Thought he over did the novelty plays a tad yesterday, he is now going for the highlight play in almost every touch he gets. Still though overall he is a joy to watch.

Thats Niko tho isn't it? Its pointless to try to get him to play conventionally - you have to give him free reign. He will do sublime and ridiculous things when he plays - you just have to hope he confuses the opposition more than he confuses his own players

I was sitting near the main Exeter support - they had drums and chants to get the support to make some noise. all the Glasgow fans had was a forlorn mooing noise "Glaaaasgoooooooooow"Dorothy_Mantooth wrote:I thought it was a pretty strange game. Glasgow ( and edinburgh) fans need to replicate the chants - someone needs to get some songs / chants going - anyone want to get some drums into the crowd? All those glasgow patter merchants should be able to come up with something better than the sound of an injured cow. Something to get the crowd going.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 2: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
There was one instance where he slid along the ground to catch a cheeky chipped ball, got up, beat the onrushing defender, chipped ahead, was taken high (drawing the penalty, then proceeded to take the catching Exeter player high as well.
All this in the space of five seconds.
It wasn't the best game from Nico - as Dot says, he was trying to force things too much, and was slightly random (and not in a good way) the whole match. Despite this, even on his worst day, he's still the most original, effortless, and shocking (both good and bad) player I've ever seen. Not many other players could have produced that pirouette and offload for Seinson's try, and there were enough examples of genius to satisfy me overall.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 2: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
Duncan Weir - he came on in the second half but a winger went off I think - so Weir slotted into 10 and Rhubarb - did he go into the centres?
What about Weirs contribution - any thoughts? He is a player I want to see back to his best the best 10 in Scotland I believe but has had two years of duff selection and injury that has robbed him of the chance to prove it.
From what I saw a bit of a mixed bag. A couple of tremendous kicks from hand, a couple of poor ones and a couple of great passes
