Appreciated Schiz my boy. I am indeed one of the few Scots who can sing about missing home when I'm not actually sitting there in the first place. You can get a decent pint of in my local sports bar over here. More shannigans than you might think.21st Century Schizoid Man wrote:George as you sit in your lacey smalls, you too, as Part Of the extended Warrior Nation, will miss a cracker of a tie. On a rugby note - I still maintain Jacko starts on Sunday with kicking. He is on the form of his life - see the try he made for Nikooooh. We managed last year without a kicker so what has changed ? Meatball on at 60 as Jacko must be a bit weary .

C21st, totally agree with that - if there was ever a moment to back Rhubarb, then it is now. He's a confidence player, and must be rewarded for excellent performances. Happy for him to start the kicking too, with there to take over if nec, but let's get away from the daft notion that Henry is required for kicking duties - the Weege need to play their best players, and sadly that doesn't include Pythagoras.21st Century Schizoid Man wrote:On a rugby note - I still maintain Jacko starts on Sunday with kicking. Jackson must not start as kicker - when he misses his whole game collapses

Nope - Pyrgos started as kicker. Jackson only kicked after Pyrgos went off,
are you prepared to gamble on Jackson not missing a kick?

Aye TJ but who kicked all the kicks - Pythagoras may have been on the field but thanks to good discipline by Toulon and bizarre refereeing decisions he did not get a shot at goal. Jacko kicked 4/4 conversions in the second 40.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 2: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
Jackson is a confidence player, yes. We have seen him miss a kick and then continue to compound the errors, but I wouldn't ever say that it affects his overall game.
The flip side of 'confidence kicking' is what happens when he kicks that first kick - he could easily go on to kick 6/6. Some of his kicking over the past year has been exemplary, and he is in the attacking form of his life while also showing some newly-acquired defensive grit. We've been saying week after week that we're due a bad game from Jacko, but that hadn't come to pass. Until I'm proved wrong (and I'm sure it will happen eventually and dpectaculatly), I say we should stick with the lad.
Jacko to start and to kick. St Mark of Cumnock to kick if it all goes breast-upwards.

Unfortunately Perpignan v Edinburgh will be on the red button instead. Must be cheaper for Sky to buy that feed from the French broadcasters than send their own team up to Scotlandcakeordeath wrote:Is this on Sky. I can't find it in the listings.

Does this mean no Glasgow-Exe on tv at all?
That would be unfortunate, to say the least.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 2: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
No, not televised Doc.
Reminds me of November 2011 when Sky in their wisdom decided not to bother sending cameras up to Edinburgh vs Racing Metro at Murrayfield which they presumably thought was the dispensable match of the round. Edinburgh won it at the death 48-47 and 11 tries were scored.
There will be radio coverage on the @BBCSport website and via the ERC/Chiefs/Warriors own websites, no doubt.
The only reason that there, thankfully, was footage of the Racing Metro game (if you fancy a treat: http://www.rugbydump.com/2011/11/2249/edinburgh-beat-racing-metro-in-eleven-try-thriller-at-murrayfield) was because RM sent up their own cameras - sometimes the French clubs will do. However, I suspect that this is beyond the financial means of the two clubs playing this week...

There were cameras at every HC game last weekend, as Sky ran a highlights package of the tries from all the games. Granted probably not the same number at the games not being shown live, but still of enough quality to provide good highlight.21st Century Schizoid Man wrote:If there are no cameras then what ya gonna do ?

Warriors game is the only one this weekend not on sky (even Zebre v Connacht is on the red button) but surely they will have it on the highlights programme on Sunday night!?

That is a bit of a shocker, I dare say the standard of rugby on display would be better than Connacht and Zebre.

Boom:-
from the Evening Times 17/10/13 Toonie Talks:-
"Unfortunately for us, Alex Dunbar at centre is struggling with injury. He's not going to play which is a shame.
He's one of our form players but that gives an opportunity for someone else to come in and, in Gabriel Ascarate, I'm glad we have someone like him who can step up."

Your commentary would consist of
"ball comes out the scrum, the weegie from Fiji passes to Jackson. Why did he pass to jackson, he should pass to Bennett"
"Ball off the top of the line out, Kellock taps the ball down to Matalawu. Why did he tap it to him? He should have tapped it to Bennett"
"Glasgow have the ball. Pass it to Bennett. Pass it to Bennett "
"FFS, pass the ball to Bennett"
"Glasgow steal the ball in the ruck, jackson does a miss pass behind Bennett to DTH. WTF"
"gunshot sound" - Jackson lays motionless on the pitch!

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 2: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
I like that back three, though with Hogg, Schlong and Murchie all crocked, we're looking a little thin in the ground. Thankfully none of those injuries looks to be long term.
Bennett bring dropped was probably inevitable, considering how much he's been playing. I imagine it's the same story with Fozzy, though I've been quietly impressed with Sherlock, who should go well.
The upsides? Niko where he's supposed to be, Alphabite, Ginger Tackle Monster and Archangel all in, and Swinson being given another chance.
All this being said, we have to win this one. Effectively, the cup starts now.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 2: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
Surprised (pleasantly with my Exe hat on) to see Jon Welsh disappear altogether, even tho he did experience a torrid time against the monster last weekend - Kalman defo there to be targeted by Brett Sturgess. Equally don't understand the inclusion of Barry over - defensive frailty over defensive solidity. Altho Rob Baxter will have already chosen his starting XV (likely to be unchanged save for injury replacements - Johnson and Rimmer), if I was him I'd be tempted to play Sireli Naqelevuki at 13 - Barry's tackling is almost non-existent. Swinson and Big Al back in the boiler room makes sense, with Jonny covering on the bench. The backrow will have to be on top form, including Sherlock, to counter Exe's breakdown threat

Asbo, if that fence is giving you splinters, I've got some tweezers and Detol wipes...

IanBru -
Reasonable team - our most brutal set of loose forwards on the field there - nothing will get past that lot around the fringes. Quite a good bench - Niko's Mate is definitely the best choice on the loosehead side, it seems. Kalman will hopefully hold up well enough - Low (who continues to disappoint me) is there on the bench to provide middling support if required.
I would rather have stuck DTH at 13 as he's played there for the Canucks and understands the defensive alignment better. Barry should do what he does best on a wing.
Ascarate, Maitland and Barry tore Zebre to shreds - no reason why that shouldn't continue with DTH and Niko back to form. We are at home and we need a BP win 0 no fear, we need to go for it.

Not sure what to make out of that team, happy with the back row, half backs and back 3.
Concerned about the front row, good news is i wasn't too impressed by Exeter's scrum against Cardiff.
I would have Jonny Gray instead of Swinson (who was poor on sunday and cost the 1st try).
What exactly has Bennett been doing wrong to be dropped?

Bit harsh on Swinson, Vince, given that he was playing out of position? He's still for my view the best all round lock at GlasgowVinceWLB wrote:Not sure what to make out of that team, happy with the back row, half backs and back 3.

I know he was out of position but should have done better imo, Gray did very well and get dropped, good impact sub though.AsLongAsBut100ofUs wrote:Bit harsh on Swinson, Vince, given that he was playing out of position? No, no, no - we need Swinson. Everybody needs a Swinson.
He is back at home now and won't spend the game worrying which side of the scrum he's supposed to stick his head at.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 2: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
Glasgow favourites for this one, with a definite home advantage, but I can see it being a close one.
Assuming Exe are without only TJ and Carl Rimmer from last weekend, I'm expecting this XXIII: Dollman, James, Whitten, Shoemark, Jess, Steenson, Lewis; Sturgess, Whitehead, Tui, Mumm, Welch, White, Scaysbrook, Ewers; Yeandle, Moon, Brown, Armand, Horstmann, Thomas, Slade, Hill (if TJ or Rimmer make it, ditch Scays for TJ altogether with White switching to openside, and Rimmer displaces Brown on the bench); only other comment is that I've personally promoted Sam Hill over Naqer, and have assumed that a fit again Tom James would replace Fetu'u Vainikolo - neither of those two things may actually happen

I'd go for:
15. Maitland
14. Seymour
13. Bennett
12. Dunbar
11. Van Der Merwe
10. Weir
9. Niko
8. Strauss
7. Fusaro
6. Harley
5. Kellock
4. Swinson
3. Welsh
2. MacArthur
1. Grant
16. YanuYanutawa
17. Hall
18. Low
19. Swinson
20. Holmes
21. Cusiter
22. Jackson
23. Lamont
This could be the game of the second round, really too close to call with Exeter on fire at the moment.
I can't see how you are not selecting Rhubarb to start who is playing bloody good and is a much more attacking threat than Weir, I would bring Schlong into midfield and you have to play Gray from the off.

I rate Weir highly - just been really unfortunate with injuries and duff selection. Ruined two seasons now for him
that is a better team from Glasgow than last week.

Not sure at Byron McG at 13 right enough. With on the bench though it may be wee bit of rest - he is only 19 and has played a lot of rugby this season (along with J Gray). Though with that back line 9-15 there are some mental speedsters there.

I remember when I tried to grow a beard at 20.
After five months without shaving, I looked like Prince.

Well Bluto Strauss' beard is better that Jacko's and Big Bad Bob Harley's 'Ginja Abe Lincoln' look.

Not good. I recall it was either Boy George or Clive James who described him as a "dwarf dipped in a bucket of pubic hair".
