Has Anyone Been To Reykjavik?
First topic message reminder :
Am thinking of going in February for 3 or 4 nights, anyone got any advice about hotels, places to visit etc? Have had a virtual drive-round on google maps and it looks like a giant suburb.

Just read the gag & bat posts re the seal noises and can confirm that peppermint tea is just as hot through the nostrils as camomile tea.

Yes they had a really nice time thanks. They bought me back a tea towel that had a map of Reykjavik on it.

Bobby Fischer played Boris Spasky in Reykjavik in perhaps the most famous chess match ever. Not sure if this helps but I am trying to subliminally influence the voting on the next round of the culture cup.

Possibly, Fischer lived out the last few years of his life there so it is probably Fischer central over there.Galted wrote:Probably means that there are commemorative T-shirts available.Rowley wrote:Bobby Fischer played Boris Spasky in Reykjavik in perhaps the most famous chess match ever. Re: Has Anyone Been To Reykjavik?
Well, funny story. They said they found a tea towel shop in the heart of the city and intended to get it there. However things apparently got a bit bonkers at an Icelandic tea rooms (Vikings and all that) and it slipped their minds. They had to then buy one in the airport on the way home, however they waited until the flight was being called before buying it. They like to live on the edge those crazy cats.Galted wrote:Did they say where they bought the tea towel than had a map of Reykjavik on it?

2 - there is a tea room(s)
3 - polar bears are rare but you don't need to worry about them as the police will shoot them
4 - there may be an avenue named after Bobby Fischer

Should perhaps change the football one to say they weren't very good. 31 years is a long time, they may have improved.

An old flat mate of mine got it on with a female Swedish international footballer once. Her driving licence confirmed that she was female. She was very loud and I was able to dispense with the need for my listening glass, but I can report that the noises were more canine than seal like.Galted wrote:I think it was Finnish women who make seal noises during love-making/murder.Mind the windows Tino. wrote:Things we've learned about Reykjavik so far:

Valur Reykjavik are really called Knattspyrnufélagið Valur. Murdo MacDougall managed them in the 30s.
