It's hilarious to me how Giroud is being put down for being a great finisher when so many clubs lack one

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
id have giroud over carroll anyday for two reasons.
1- goals- his scoring record is far superior to carrolls, and its a bit simplistic to say he just scores tap ins. not giving him any credit for his movement in the box there.
2- he stays fitter, carroll always injured and if not playing week in week out struggles to maintain his fitness. get the impression he doesn't look after himself properly out of season.

I'm not saying Carroll over giroud at arsenal. I'm just comparing the two generally. Would Carroll score the goals giroud does at arsenal, yes. Great finisher from inside the six yard box, yes, but then many strikers are. I just believe come end of season arsenal will miss out on winning something because of the tight games where giroud misses the key chance. Giroud is not a one chance goal guy. He's a four or five chance guy, misses many opportunities just like a WBA or even yesterday that header from five yards unmarked put wide. So far so good but the difference, in my opinion, will be telling come may n in Europe. That's all.

thats the truth of it- there isnt that many better really- I can only think of about 10 that are truely better - the rest seem quite similarGSC wrote:It's hilarious to me how Giroud is being put down for being a great finisher when so many clubs lack one

Carroll does have that bit of enigma about him, he will probably get you more outrageous goals,
however could he link with arsenal's midfield as well as giroud?

Brings in nolan well. Kevin basically makes a career out of Carroll knockdowns. Brilliant for us. Remember Carroll terrorising man city for Liverpool, feeding players left right n centre n banging two great goals. I think your giroud (brilliant finisher) belief is going to your heads. Delusional.

Just watching highlights of liverpool.
OMG suarez was unbelievable..
If arsernal can't get someone like that i dont see the point in them hurting their team for the benefit of a natural goal scorer that may lack technique.

I dont think he is a brilliant finisher in the slightest- I think he is a good technical player, but no natural striker!John wrote:Brings in nolan well. Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Carroll would be so out of place at Arsenal it isn't funny. Need technical ability to play in a side like that.
Repeating the 6 yard tap in thing over and over does you no credit. If it was that easy, every team would have a 20 goal a season striker. Giroud has very intelligent movement, and good technical ability which along with instinct allow him to be in those positions.

I would however go for Carrol over Giroud at palace .
A big strong striker that can boss midfielders and could potentially get in the mould of drogba or ibram.

Well your assuming there, no fact
Does every team have Ramsey, wilshere, ozil, cazorla providing the creativity? If they were at west ham providing Carroll, you'd be saying Carroll was brilliant.
This debate is situational. If he was there or if he was there......glad mysteroakey has admitted he ain't no natural finisher after originally posting in response to your comment of him being a great finisher. Let's not get carried away.

I agree that for mid/lower tier teams, Carroll would be a better option than Giroud due to his physicality. Obviously, ability wise he' a lot closer to Chamakh than he is to a Drobga or Ibra.mystiroakey wrote:I would however go for Carrol over Giroud at palace .

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
think people are getting carried away with carroll here a bit, if he were to stay fit and get a run of games he can be a handful but that just isnt happening. think he has only had two seasons where he has played the majority of games, simply not good enough. and when he comes back from injuries he's pretty awful for a while and takes quite a few games to get back match fit.
he's averaging a goal every 3.5 games and even that is bumped up by a good year in the championship. his top level scoring record is poor with his best season being 11 goals. which is pretty poor, similar to a grant holt type stats them and you could argue carrolls been in better teams

Carroll has far more technical ability than hes given credit for.
Id have Carroll over Giroud at our place, Giroud over Carroll at Arsenal. Id have Carroll over Giroud at Chelsea and United, Giroud over Carroll at Spurs and City. Different teams need different players. I think Carroll would be far more important a player for anyone outside the top 8 than Giroud, Giroud would offer nothing when the going gets tough.

Steven Fletcher header, great cross from Johnson but Newcastle defending could of been a lot better.

Sunderland went to sleep there and have just given Newcastle an early christmas present.
This is where i used to get frustrated with Gus at Brighton as when someone like this happen, he would take too long before making tactical changes and by then it would be too late to get all 3 points or even a point.

Agree that Altidore is a long way from being a naturally talented superstar but I still quite like him. He at least seems to regularly give it his all. Involved in both of Sunderland's goals. Don't think he knew much about the lay off for Borini's winner but did well to earn the corner that led to the opener.John wrote:

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
I once made what equates to about £500 on three bets.
Placed a tenner on Utd to lose to Vietnam XI (or whoever they faced first this season) at 9/1. Then a twenty on Citeh to lose a pre-season match at 11/1, and another tenner on Citeh losing to amaZulu at around 15/1...
My girlfriend really enjoyed my money... Good times, had a rotten run recently, but I never bet big. Jus keep betting on the underdog, and hope for the upset.
