January Transfer Window 2014
First topic message reminder :
I'm gonna open this up now as I contemplate watching the shower of poop I'm about to watch.
What strong rumours have we heard? What do teams need? Where do you think the money will be spent?
I shall start you off with rumours surrounding Lambert maybe considering West Ham and similarly West Ham going to Spurs cap in hand to request a loan of Defoe or Adebayor (sources not so tight haha)

has anybody else heard the rumor rooney is waiting till he can buy his contract out. stupid rule as we all know that it wont be rooney paying nothing towards his contract (he wouldn't even hand in a official transfer request for fear of losing a bit of money) but chelseas signing on fee that will be paying for it.
if it is true and with his current hoilday, id get rid now and get mata as part of the deal

I think its BS, considering the value of United has declined by $220m on the stock market I don't see the Glazers in a rush to throw £200m at the club for transfers
I seen before they weresaying pre glazer we spent 12% of our revenue on strengthening the team and that has halved since they took over. Having said that they have milked the world dry in sponsors

just seen this on the BBC website:
BBC Final Score reporter Richard Askam
"Nikica Jelavic's likely departure to Hull leaves Everton bit short up front. Hear Roberto Martinez likes Javier Hernandez. Summer more likely if happens."
could be a nice sweater for Barkley if true, although knowing moyes it will be probably more likely be baines

Yeah i think its time to say thanks wayne- but its time for you to go. Because he must be worth 40-50m at the moment and he will only go later anyway- I have allways said the mata plus luiz move for rooney would be ideal for both parties

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
I remember something called the 'Webster ruling' or something like that. I believe it's the same thing with Yohan Cabaye. Apparently, Cabaye can buy out the remaining two years of his contract with us for around £6m & then move on a free transfer. According to FIFA, a player can cancel a contract “without just cause” and pay his employer the remaining value of his deal, allowing them to join another club on a free transfer.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
While Rooney has been our go to guy for anything to happen so far this season I am resigned to losing him long term and would snap Chelseas hand off for that offer
As it happens though in Summer he will only have 12 months left and regardless of Luiz or Matas squad status does a Rooney with 12 months remaining really add up to the same value as Mata and Luiz, I never see Chelsea offering with both, or even either to a premier league rival (maybe not this season, but I don't see United disappearing long term)

no you may have to pay more(12 mill or so), but the deal for me works for both parties.,
Off course i am being very speculative. BUt if owned or even supported either club I think I could be persuaded with both sides of the deal.

not too fussed with luiz, unless we see him as a holding midfielder, the key for me would be just to get mata.
rooney has 18 months left on his contract which would cost him 18 mil to buy out now with his wages.

Mata is a very similar player to rooney as well. I cant see why this deal shouldn't happen.
But i wouldn't (as a united fan) want to do a straight deal for the lesser player. Unless United can get a mata plus cash(and that cash can get someone else that is good enough)

matas 3 years younger than rooney and has longer left on his contract. if were just talking player for player then rooney is worth more but under the circumstances cant see us getting too much money out of the deal
would imagine mata wages will also be less

There have been stronger links of Gundogan joining United than there have Madrid while Dortmund will be powerless to sell Reus if his buy out clause is met.
As for Luiz, no thank you i'd rather play Cleverly or Ferdinand than have that piece of crap playing for our club, his pitiful acting to get Rafael sent off isn't easily forgotten nor is his average ability.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
If Moyes gets rid of Rooney in January, Moyes will be sacked. If he gets rid of him in the summer he will probably be sacked. You can't be selling your best player when most of the other players don't make the grade. Man Utd should be able to buy Mata & Luiz without have to sell their best player.
Anyway things will probably go pear shaped for Man Utd if they don't finish in the top four. I hope Man Utd don't overwork Rooney when he recovers from injury (they over-rely on him at the moment) as he is needed for England in the summer world cup. I think moving to Chelsea would be in Rooney's own best interests (not Man Utd best interest).

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
ive been fairly critical of moyes so far but if rooney goes its got nothing to with him, rooney has been looking for a move away for a while. sulked most of last year and i suspect his sudden turn around in form is merely to put himself in the shop window. he only has 18 months left on his contract so it would be more stupid to let him go for free than cashing in for him now or getting a excellent player in return
also tired rooney or not england will still be gash in the world cup

Good signing that I think, I think Everton are putting together a really good squad. They've got some really good attacking players in there with Mirallas, Pienaar, Barkley and now McGeady.
The main worrying part at the moment is the over reliance on loan players. I can see them signing Barry permanently in the summer, but Lukaku will be off and they'll only be able to get Deulofeu on another loan deal at most you'd think. Have to look long-term in the summer and try and bring in players on permanent deals, particularly a striker as if Jelavic goes they've only got Kone left.

Dortmund will have to sell or risk losing him, when the clause is activated.
Xabi Alonso signing a new two year deal kind of suggests that Gundogan might not end up their as everyone thinks.
@Olly - Completely agree about McGeady. Infuriating to watch, has the pace & skill but usually no end product. Basically just another Lennon. Why do you think he went to Russia, yeah, for the money but secondly because no one else rated him to keep him on these shores.

that isn't entirely true about McGeady, Sunderland and Aston Villa both wanted him but he wanted to go to a club where he could realistically challenge for honours and play Champions League football, Everton also wanted him but they couldn't afford the £10.5m deal Spartak gave Celtic, he wasn't on major money in Russia, he would have got just as much if not more in England, he isn't like Lennon either, Lennon is all about blistering pace, McGeady is quick but he's not close to being thay quick, his touch and his vision is superb, his best position is playing just behind the striker but due to the strength of the Celtic team in that department in his early dayd Martin O'Neill moved him out wide, he was a far better right winger than a left winger but when Gordon Strachan took over Celtic he signed Nakamura who he played at right midfield and Aiden was used more regularly at left wing.
Playing for Martinez could be the best thing to ever happen to McGeady, I'll be interested in seeing how he fares, after years of undoubted talent but sheer injury prone, he got the best out of Shaun Maloney and allowed him to roam behind the front man, I wouldn't be surprised if he does that with McGeady, Martinez is far more flexible with his tactics than O'Neill, Strachan or Trappatoni ever where

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
United would be crazy to let Rooney go especially to Chelsea. I think he has proved this season that he is their best player and his work rate has been top notch. Rvp is injury prone and old so no Rooney then no world class players at united because I think rvp is on the down slope. I think it is hard to replace those types of players. To buy a Rooney type player you would probably have to spend more money with no guarantee of success.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
Telegraph going big tomorrow on two stories.
Coentrao to United till end of the season on loan. From the same article it is believed United are talking to the agent, Mendes (of course heavily involved in big United transfers before) over Garay, possibly Mangala and then also moving on Anderson and Nani. It also says Zaha is possibly off on loan to Cardiff and Vidic will talk to Galatasaray
Lescott on loan to West Ham agreed between the clubs, matching his 90k a week salary until summer and then a 3 year deal from then. Different stories I've heard say different things, either we'll give him a bonus and then 50k a week to stay with us IF we stay up or the Telegraph today going with 70k a week from the summer whether we stay up or not. Suggests the deal is agreed with City, but not Lescott.
Belfodil, to my relief, seems to have passed us by, but the Traore permit hearing is Monday and Di Marzio says a deal is agreed for Borriello. I think we'll look for two strikers so we can sell Maiga. Carlton might be given 6 more months, I hope so.

Why would we play a loan player for 4 months and alienate the fullbacks we own?
Garay has failed at his only top level club. S hS been inked to is for 5 years so that's nonsense.
Zaha might well go on loan but why in earth would vidic leave? Gala can't vastly exceed our wages so why would vidic leave the club he's won everything at?

Vidic has as much chance of leaving as Kagawa - none. He's captain of one of the biggest clubs in the world and is probably on a lot more money than he'd get in Turkey. He's still got another season left in him then after that, if he wants to go, let him go with the best wishes of everyone at Utd.

Because Buttner and Fabio are awful and Evra isn't as reliable as he once was.
Plus by taking him on loan first it gives the oppurtunity to see how he'd fit in the team rather than paying £12m and ending up with a dud. If the fit isn't right he goes back to Madrid in the summer, no harm done

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
A loan deal makes sense all round really, get a price agreed for a summer transfer incase he performs better than expected at which point Madrid would demand more. I think we need to use this window as a chance to get rid of some players, the more money we save and recoup between now and the summer the better.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
Anderson fine, but getting rid of Nani isn't the cleverest idea. He can actually have the odd good game; albeit in a land of swirling inconsistency.
Ashley Young and Tom Cleverley have to be moved to the departure terminal first.
That said, it's never the best idea to attempt a rebuild in January. Investment yes, but don't fiddle with the structure in the middle of the season. Don't mess around with the core.
Despite everything, United still have a chance of top four and even, as incredulous as it may appear, a tilt at the Champions League crown.
Stranger things have happened, like Chelsea winning in 2012, and creating an air of uncertainty doesn't lend itself to United's aspirations this season; no matter how fanciful they may be.

Olly, your worst nightmare. Hughton states, "There is an interest in Jonas Gutierrez, but there's nothing to confirm at this moment. If that changes, we will let you know".
We had him in his prime & he was dreadful. Now he's in decline. Basically your getting a player than runs all day but has no actual technical ability at all & carries a spiderman mask in his pants, that he never actually gets out.
As for United, wouldn't touch any of those Juventus players other than Vidal. Astori has been linked with Southampton for months & Marchisio has always flattered to deceive.

The midfielder first joined Chelsea in 2009 but made just two appearances before leaving for Portugal in 2011.
He made that move to Benfica as part of the deal which saw David Luiz arrive at Stamford Bridge but Blues boss Jose Mourinho may now see Matic as the man to strengthen the centre of his midfield this January."
